If you like martial arts battle scenes like in The Blood of Youth or Swords Snow Stride, which are full of CGI…
Yes as I mentioned there is a lot of involvement of stunt actors and body doubles. I don't expect the actors to do all the stunts by themselves so it doesn't bother me. Nonetheless the visual composition style and choreography is pretty good and very old school wuxia. But in any case, it's quite clear this is probably not for you so your time is clearly better spent on other things. Flames Daughter was a long time ago now, maybe due for a rewatch?

Well NIF had great action scenes for a political drama. Wu Lei’s action scenes in LLTG were stunning. I also like Lu Yang’s action scenes from Brotherhood of Blades and Wind Blows from Longxi. Fox Volant had good action scenes as well although a bit too much wire work for my taste. Joy of Life and Young Blood was good too. Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty and the 2020 version of Heroes. Old school wuxia fans in China are praising the action scenes for this drama but I don’t fully agree - they are good to me but by side characters and stunt actors so I downgrade it a bit.

I guess it’s all a bit subjextive. I agree WRTW had terrible fight scenes. But I didn’t think Flame’s Daughter or Sassy Princess had good fight scenes either. So it’s hard to know what you are looking for. For me the fight scenes here are good but not amazing. That said, they easily beat both those dramas.

Yeah even though there is romance, it is not the driver of the plot so if that is what you are looking for then you should watch other stuff.

The fight scenes are good, fast moving and very classic wuxia style. But it is all done by the FL and side characters. The ML can only scheme and run very fast. It is a plot heavy revenge story you have to pay attention to with good fight scenes. There is some criticism in China that the plot is not riveting or even boring but I think its quite good so far.

This is the style of clothing in the Ming dynasty (please correct me if I'm wrong). I remember thinking how frumpy…
Yeah and it reflects the dress code of scholar/merchant classes. Ming Dynasty was very conservative, people wore swarths of cloth to conceal their figures. League of Nobleman was a fictional dynasty but it looked more Tang to me - that was the most permissive dynasty where women wore a lot of low cut and diaphanous outfits. The wave of conservatism took hold from Song dynasty onwards. By Ming Dynasty women from noble households could not casually meet or show their faces to men. Of course this drama focuses on jianghu and the working/merchant classes where its not as strict.

He is the steward of a major silk factory in Nandu which is an every day job. How can he run a sect at the top of a mountain far away at the same time? The Master of Yuntai either is someone who has not showed up yet or he is Yun Xiang. He can't be anyone in Nandu.

Yes there is clearly some government or royal connection behind the scenes. They frequently like to use jianghu to achieve the shady side of their political goals.

Well it could be someone else that hasn't appeared. But by elimination, I already ruled out everyone that has appeared. Don't forget the sect is on top of a mountain far away. You can't just appear and disappear in Nandu overnight so its impossible to maintain 2 identities like that.

While watching ep 14, I get the feeling that someone manipulated Yun Xiang to dismantle Qi Yian Feng and the Cao…
Well getting rid of Qi Tianfeng does not equal to control over Nandu City. The Chairman of the Nandu Chamber of Commerce controls Nandu City, in this case Su Huairou. Pirate Guan had motive to remove Cao Sect bc they control the river ways which connects to the sea. So did Mo Bufan who took over Cao Sect's assets. So they essentially ganged up on him. Yun Xiang's task is to achieve what Wen Cong failed to do, which is take over the Chamber of Commerce. Instead he chose to make the Su family beholden to him instead. He doesn't agree with his master's strategy and is arguing. Maybe there is no master. Maybe Yun Xiang is the master. Somehow over the course of 15 years, he took over long ago. At the moment, Yun Xiang is my top candidate for Master of Yuntai. All the other suspects were in Nandu City or elsewhere so they can't have been running the sect all this while. I think he "throws his voice" and has been talking to himself whenever he "meets" the master. That is also why he is so ridiculously daring to argue and disagree with the guy with no punishment.

I think the Yuntai only pays lip service to the whole idea of greater good. They are actually just greedy for money and power. They lost their way long ago. When Yun Xiang was brought there as a kid from Luo Village he already had the impression from his village that the sect were bad people. And the Nandu business community in general also dislikes them, including Mo Bufan and resisted Wen Cong's efforts to take control of the Chamber of Commerce.

I am dissatisfied that Wen Cong is dead. The guy has so much to answer for.

When did the Cao sect members get killed? Did I skip a scene in ep 14?
Probably - after Qi Tianfeng wakes up he finds the place on fire and when he walks outside all his men are dead, including his steward Ding Yi.

Does anyone think that Madame Su's clan is behind the Luo Village massacre? She seems to have a hidden agenda.…
The Luo Village was massacred by the soldiers .Qi Tianfeng only bribed the soldiers (at Wen Cong's request) to bully the farmers out of farm land. The person behind the massacre must have connections to the court to be able to order the solders to kill everyone instead. The Su family's only link to the court is they are imperial tribute cloth weavers. The other person with a powerful backer is Tang Xiao. If his backer is court linked then he is the more likely suspect.
