Yes, let's hope. I have a feeling there are no real good characters or bad characters in this series. They all have complex agendas. Or maybe let's say Yuntai is not that good or has been corrupted. They keep talking about helping common people but actually they just seem to be about gathering influence. The book is highly rated but I read that it has been altered quite a bit in the adaptation. There are actually 6 or 7 books, I am not sure how many the drama series actually tackles.

The Qian Sect split into two factions due to differences in approach. The Lingyuan faction chose to oppose the imperial court openly and I assume went underground as rebels. The Yuntai faction went legit into business and on surface avoided the court. But in reality via commerce/the economy, they wield true power from behind the scenes and consider themselves the real successors of the Qian Sect. Shu Yanan via her association with her godfather Wen Cong is Yuntai but her family may originally be from the Lingyuan faction as she seems to know some of their martial arts. The imperial court must be linked to this because only someone very powerful could have ordered the soldiers to massacre the Luo Village when they were only supposed to be there to help Wen Cong/Yuntai bully them out of some farmland. Wen Cong's job was to help Yuntai control all of the heads of the professional guilds in Nandu via the Chamber of Commerce of Nandu but he failed. All the other parties belong to professional guilds - shipping (Cao Sect/Qi Tianfeng, casinos (Tang family and Liansheng House), silk merchants (Su family), Mo Bufan (bank) and I am sure there are more. Their loyalties are not yet all clear - obviously the bank is Yuntai and Tang family's powerful backer may have to do with the imperial court. Su family may become beholden to Yuntai if Yunxiang can save them.
