I kind of guessed it but when I checked the cast list and saw two different actors I abandoned the idea. There was no other explanation for his long absence...
And Xuanqi wang or Mu Cha, Mu Yan's uncle. He is probably working with the mastermind all along. Maybe he was always the rebel in the Xuanqi camp and his actions led to his brother's downfall. Mu Yan may have fled Qi with the holy fire ember to keep it safe while he works to uncover the conspiracy. Given his long absence, I would guess he has either been captured by the crown prince OR he has disguised himself as A Qi.

Yes it could just be A Qi by himself. The only issue is the character is under developed so he doesn't make a convincing mastermind. Maybe he is Mu Yan in disguise. If it is the CP, maybe it has something to do with his wife. I don't remember how she died.
