Does anyone remember Xiao Mei in the novel? I don’t think she was in it at all. I am wondering bc she is about the age Miao Ruolan should be. I wonder if she was written in to be the young MRL Hu Fei met and then didn’t see until years later when she is grown up on Snowy Mountain. This would have been so much a better adaptation if they had just gotten the rights to both novels. Then we can end on a treasure hunt and instead of the silly wulin arc and Hu Fei has hope of ending up with someone. Maybe they can end with Xiao Mei growing up to look like either YZY or CLS.

Ugh AvenueX. Terrible youtuber with opinions that are easily bought. I will never forget or forgive her behaviour…
I boycotted her for ZZH as well. Idk if she was paid to slander him but she definitely continued to make money out of WOH while she was stabbing him in the back at the same time. I knew she was lying about tthe shrine bc I know where it is. I have been to the same place many times to see cherry blossoms without entering the shrine itself. And she never apologized or retracted what she said now that everything has been debunked. In any case it’s no loss - she is pretty good at the Classical Chinese literary stuff but her modern drama reviews from what I saw are mediocre at best. Especially when it comes to crime and thrillers she obviously didn’t get half the hidden narrative in The Bad Kids, which was one of her last reviews I watched before the ZZH incident. I am quite sure she adds no value to this one where everything is quite obvious plot wise anyway.

Sang Fei Hong is Yuan Ziyi's sect sister
Yuan Yin Gu is Yuan Ziyi's mother
Xue Que is CLS's sect sister from Poison Valley
I think (not sure) Fourth sister-in-law I think is one of the women related to Zhong Aisi - probably the one that gutted her kid.

AvenueX recently ranted this drama and she said this drama is a fail for her. It didnt meet her expectation as…
I don't watch AA and don't care what she was ranting about. I will say however, that this does not at all look like Cao Dun's work. I have to wonder if his assistant director did all the work and he just lent his name to it.

Yes the entire history of Western colonial powers is about forcing open countries with less modern and sophisticated military power. The Opium War was where the British forced China to open 5 ports to them and stole HK for 100 years. They also caused untold misery by getting vast numbers of the Chinese population hooked on opium. I was happy that the Queen lived such a long time to see the great British empire she inherited diminish over her lifetime to little more than a bunch of dinky little irrelevant islands with now a soon to be banana republic currency. Karma works it just takes a long time. It is why although they did a good job for centuries, the Qing dynasty is not loved or respected bc they are the ones that sold out the country to foreign colonial powers.

1. A lot of whitewashing.: - Yuan Ziyi is more empathetic - Nan Lan and Tian Guinnong enough said about them 🤮…
I thought RuoLan was in mourning so her mother just died at the opening of Snowy Mountain. And I remember Tian dies after Nan Lan? So maybe Hu Fei only defeats him but doesn't kill him at the wulin master competition? They could of course change it all...

He was Guo Jing the ML in the 2017 LOCH. He has grown up very nicely I hope to watch more of him.
Yups - Li Yitong is a quiet beauty who lacks intensity and is not vivacious enough to be Huang Rong. She would have made a much better Xiao Longnu. I did check it out for the other characters but it was too long to watch the whole thing with an insipid Huang Rong.
Side Stories of Fox Volant has the best fight scenes I have seen in a long time. The adaptation is not perfect but its also one of the best Jin Yong I have seen in awhile. I am shocked you are not camped out on that page like I am!!!

Hu Fei was the people’s hero. I don’t like how Cheng Lingsu just keeps highlighting his recklessness here…
Yes Chen Jialou (or even more appropriately his shifu Yuan Shixiao) is No 1 in the swordsman ranking. Hu Yidao was No 2 and Miao Renfeng was No 3. Hu Fei had not even exceeded his father. But I think the best stories are about the middling heroes who somehow prevail bc someone helps them or by trickery so even though their fight powers are not as good they somehow make it.

YX is in the earlier JY universe (which he wrote later on) that all use magic qi so its not fair to compare those heroes with swordsman.

But he is the bastard that got off very lightly in the novel right? I don't think he dies until much later on?

I didn't even know they have trailers for this although I am not that fussed bc I already know the story and how it ends. They are not on WeTV which makes me happy bc sometimes they start playing after the episode without me clicking on it and next thing I know I am watching it. I am ok if they come back to be skewered on someone's sword. Not picky whether its HF or MRF but I guess it'd be best if MRF doesn't kill his daughter's mom.

Oh ok, I don't watch trailers so idk what is coming soon. So it sounds like they drag it out and then kill them anyway. Makes so little sense...

That is true wrt popularity of novels. The Young Flying Fox had a lot of writing issues including too many sects and tbh the wulin arc is boring. But I am referring to simply Jin Yong's heroes. LOCH for example is the most popular novel but I think I am not in the minority when I say I just don't like Guo Jing, I found him to be JY's most boring hero. ZWJ to me was not that much better but for sure they are both phenomenal fighters. I like Hu Fei bc his martial arts is just pure swordplay no magic qi power associated with it. He is more appropriately compared with LCH, MRF and CJL. I wouldn't compare him with ZWJ or GJ bc at that point JY added fantasy elements to their powers. I always felt HF was short changed bc the character design is good , arguably better than the heroes of his more popular novels. Sadly, JY didn't give him a good plot or a good ending. QF is also my favorite but I would also argue that while his story was good it is less popular bc its not happy. And JY also kind short changes him.

So far it looks like quite a few things have been changed in this adaptation. Please feel free to correct me if…
1. A lot of whitewashing.:
- Yuan Ziyi is more empathetic
- Nan Lan and Tian Guinnong enough said about them 🤮
- Ma Chunhua who buried her husband and Shang Baozhen together in unmarked graves and rushed to be with Fu Kangan.
2. Looks like Ma Chunhua doesn't die. I am quite sure Hu Fei and CLS failed to save her in the novel.
3. Hu Fei did not kill Feng Tiannan in the book. I think Tang Pei killed him. And YZY was there and both TP and FTN finds out she is FTN daughter. YZY does kill TP. In this version FTN never finds out that YZY is his daughter.

I guess if they don't kill off MCH maybe they will save CLS as well?

Does anyone else think the Pei Xijun actress looks very similar Zeng Shunxi?? Is it just me? I had to do a double…
She is cute - I thought she looked a bit like Tan Songyun.
