That’s true but from Qianfan’s POV the Zhou She incident is hardly a shining example of good judgement. And his life and career is at stake so I don’t blame him for taking the approach that the less people know the better. Remember this not driven by Pan’er and Sanniang and it is not their right to put him at risk. In other matters though I do strongly feel they need to trust her more and let her be a bigger part of their decisions. She does speak up for herself and I am cheering her on for it.

Yeah I am still reserving judgement on Gao Hui bc I got bad vibes from the scene where she very charmingly intimidated Ouyang. And yes, Ouyang just let Uncle De climb all over his head. That is a vengeful and spiteful old man, I want to feed him to the cat demon.

She was regent during Renzong's reign - their story is told in the recent Serenade of Peaceful Joy. Apparently she is not the emperor's birth mother. His birth mother was only a concubine. But by law as the emperor's (childless) legal wife she was recognised as the crown prince's official mother and she allegedly separated mother and son to the extent he couldn't even visit his birth mother on her deathbed. It is kind of interesting to see her history and roots are portrayed as rather dubious in this drama. Interestingly Renzong struggled so hard to shed the shackles of her regency that when he was free of her, he enacted many laws to restrict the freedom of women.

No established family or achievement behind him other than passing the imperial exams (after failing a few times). The really bad person I think is Uncle De.
