There is a scene in the beginning where he is in white pyjamas and wears his hair down - which before that was to me Ye Hua's iconic TMOPB look. My mouth went dry and I thought... Ye Who???? I replayed it an obscene amount of times.

That would have to be Rebel Princess and My Sassy Princess. And Ancient Love Poetry (which I dropped). My Sassy Princess is full of holes but a lot of fun. Rebel Princess starts great but ends much less great. And ALP I dropped like a hot cake bc I couldn't take ZDY and I can say that since I suffered through 69 episodes of her atrocious acting in Sparrow so I think I gave her a fair shot. If you are ok with her, you should watch it bc I read the book its a very good but very angsty story. I think you like those though.

Oh ok, that was ep 20 or 21 I think. Lots of people are upset about it but it was also part of the original novel. The real issue is apparently it doesn't add anything and the novel reveals who did it and then contradicts that much later on without revealing who actually did it. The screenwriter decided its not important and omitted it but the director added it back. This has created a lot of controversy. I didn't read the book so idk if it was necessary but I hope this kind of scene is only included for good reason. For whatever it is worth the novelist has defended the director and accused critics of not reading the books. I am willing to wait and see how it is explained and justified but understand if you feel you can't continue.

True but its kind of inevitable and realistic for those times. And it makes them more special bc they kind of don't care what society thinks and that is what makes great love stories...

It was a painting from this period. It was so long they could only show parts of it in a long glass display cabinet. They had a video that scrolls through the whole thing which I watched a big chunk of but didn't have enough time to see all of it. Your video reminded me of it. It was either at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts or the Fogg Museum at Harvard. I visited both but I don't remember which one I saw it at.

Yups I hear you on that but considering these women are literally on the bottom of society they can by definition only marry up. And I am quite sure GQF doesn't feel it is a sacrifice to be with Pan'er so I can live with that....

Ning Yi is so grey he falls just short of the dark side. I have a weakness for men like that. That's what appeals to me about Qianfan as well but he is very mild by comparison in the sense he is just kind of a bit mean and grumpy. I also like Ye Hua for that reason but he is so possessive I would suffocate.
