I don't think he is saintly at all, I think he played the last two episodes very well. He has to survive in the dog eat dog court. Of course he has to be ruthless. And when Feng Ju attacked him first long ago, he already declared war on him. Of course he was going to let him rebel - its not like his dad would otherwise believe him. Plus that is the only way to get rid of him for once and for all. He also never handed over Fountain Abode. Qiwu still reports to him and allows him to make use of the network. Who cares who is notionally in charge?

Excellent review - I am enjoying Yang Yang in WRTW but not enough to make me watch a military themed drama. But I am happy to hear his performance impressed you.

Its not the kind of thing you just leave lying around - he probably doesn't know where it is - the Dadong emperor is not stupid. But I am sure the fool crown prince now emperor will soon tell him or maybe he got it out of the Token Keepers he kidnapped.

Dadong over time got relatively weak while many of the vassal states got stronger. The Dadong imperial family was worried about their ability to hold on to power. So YWY advised them to spread fake news about the missing token and sent out fake tokens to get them to fight among themselves and thus become weaker. At the same time, YWY is also working Jizhou bc he thinks that the Dadong Crown Prince is weak and Huang Chao is more capable of uniting the world and holding on to power. He wants to be the power behind Huang Chao's throne. My guess is the real token is still in Dadong.

Yeah that was rather well played by the brothers. Bc Yige was Lanxi's mother, of course he would not be impartial. But coming from Baili's own son Chang it is much more damning. One wrong word and the king may have used the Jizhou spy/Chancellor's involvement to give her a less harsh punishment.

But that's the thing - he pretty much said nothing. In fact Feng Ju was the one who actually spoke up for him. And I don't think either Baili or Feng Ju expected the king to punish Baili so harshly. He could have simply demoted her to commoner with her son or banish her to the cold palace or a monastery. Even the hanging with white cloth is pretty harsh, poison would have been kinder. If it was not calculated, then what it means is Lanxi had no voice, like he didn't think his feelings would carry weight with his dad or he didn't really care that much. Maybe its just poor writing all around.

They are more like first impressions and MDL should just tag them that way. Its fine, lots of people like reading (and writing) first impressions. And the ones written on Day 1 are pretty funny if you read them at the end. It can read like fan fiction.

I think Lanxi was being slightly strategic about it. He knew his father loved Baili most. If he threw a fuss, the emperor may not have punished her as heavily. The fact that Chang spoke up was more powerful than anything Lanxi could have said. But both of them were careful not to demand he punish her heavily, leaving him no excuse not to apply the law justly in the matter.

I hope they had to retake that many times.
