An alternate title could be, "Sometimes it's best when we don't get the thing we wished for for many years." Both main characters yearned for people for so many years, that when they finally got them, they weren't the right people for them anymore. I really loved that - it's so different from rom-com tropes.

I loved it. Certainly a slow burn but so much character development it's amazing.

Not all straight media is horrible, not every BL is a masterpiece. In fact some (many) BL's are written by straight women for straight women. Again, not worth feeling betrayed over.

"A wish to see actors in more BL projects is not a call for them to be limited to/pigeonholed into one genre".....but that's exactly what you're calling for here. If they want to do anything else but BL's after they've been in one successful drama, then they're betraying you.

Unless they don't have city-powering chemistry, and the BL is awful. The BL landscape has been littered with sexual violence and abusive and toxic men who hurt each other for our watching pleasure. Thank god that seems to be changing, but it's slow.

That's not entirely true. One of my favorite early KBL's is called Just Friends?" and both Yeon Woo Jin and Lee Je Hoon have done widely varying work since then.

The criticism leveled at BL's right now (and I totally agree with it) is that dozens of straight actors are taking on queer roles and that doesn't leave or make space for openly queer actors to take those roles. Recognizing the homophobia present in many of the countries where BL's are produced I'm sure it would be very hard to be an openly queer actor so that's not said lightly at all. But in the US the push is for straight actors to stop playing LGBTQ+ roles so those roles can be played by queer folks instead.

You're absolutely right about acting, but again, that's a point I've been trying to make here. A good actor can play a wide variety of roles from a wide variety of identities and most do not want to get pigeonholed into one genre.

That's exactly what I'm trying to say here. It's not within your purview to restrict an actor's role based on their sexuality.... (or the sexuality of the characters they're playing.)

If he's straight, then he shouldn't be taking roles in BL's that queer actors should be playing. If's he's queer, he should still be "allowed" to play whatever role he wants to play without having to justify it to anyone.

You're acting like a parasocial fan that thinks their actors owe them something. They don't owe us anything. BL fans have gotten so possessive and even toxic

"Ditching the genre?" Dude, he's an actor. And actors act. That's what they do. The best actors act in diverse roles that showcase their abilities, they don't allow themselves to get typecast in one genre. But worse, you're making it seem like he OWES you to act in BL's for the rest of his career. He doesn't owe us anything except a good performance in whatever genre of media he chooses.
And he didn't use SE for anything except to get his next role....which is exactly what makes him an actor. Period.
