In the novel, LMT went back to her maternal family and they didn't reside in the capital. I forgot what city was that. CXZ only went to the capital after they got married; he even went as far as trying to stall their journey cause he was really unwilling to be involved in the palace power struggle.

After watching avenueX's first impression of this drama, I can somewhat understand that this drama has a certain barrier that makes it hard for some people to keep watching. Being thrown right into the middle of the story mostly works better on the novel, because there's exposition and narrative thoughts that will guide us, even if it still be able to hide certain twist inside the plot. However, this is harder to translate into the screen; which evidently shown during the airing of earlier episodes when so many people are watching without prior contextual understanding of the premise of the story, and they keep asking who is who, what happened, and how did we get to the starting point of the story. It was also quite slow in the beginning. Where first few episodes usually packed with introduction and building the setting and context of the story, this drama instead focused in building the chemistry and relationship between the main characters.

As a novel reader, this barrier simply doesn't exist to me. But this is exactly why the drama has to be able to stand on its own despite being an adaptation. Not everyone has time to invest into digging deeper for the background of the story, and perhaps this was what turns many people off of this drama. In and of itself, the choice to focus more on slowly building the main couple's relationship is not a bad thing. But many people might find it boring, because they keep waiting for things to happen, to grasp on the overall direction of the drama.

But, at the end of the day, it all comes down to personal preference. So whether you're staying because of the actors, the humor, the intrigue, the romance, or something else entirely, I'm still glad that many people are still willing to continue this journey. I'm staying simply for the residual fondness of the source material, and I still sincerely hope that the drama won't mess up the characters too much, whatever direction they choose to take in the future episode. Especially because we're almost at halfway point and this is usually the point where many drama choose to take a free fall in terms of writings and just overall quality in general.

People freaking out about them getting married soon after watching the teaser... Guys, are we forgetting that getting his mother's approval is not the main issue here, It's about getting HER approval that's not going to be easy XD

But, at the very least, the groveling phase itself shouldn't take that long cause, there are a lot things that still needs to be dealt with after they got married. We can no longer be sure about in which order these story arcs would show up, but, seeing the cast lists, we can somewhat grasp which one they choose to keep and which one they don't.

In short, don't worry, even after they got married, there are plenty enough materials to keep the story going ^^

Even if she remembers, honestly, why would she get back with ziyu? Considering her self pride and all that, i mean she did broke up with him and the reason for that is still valid in her eyes. Even if this story already deviated from the novel, i don't think they would go as far as creating additional storyline with ziyu.
But, of course, we shouldn't underestimate cdrama writers ability to mess up a perfectly good script just for the sake of angst lol. Anyway if they really chose to go down that path... i think i would drop it XD

The silence and calmness actually shook me. Like, sis, even I'm still processing things! How does it feel like to just barely remembered having, not just friends, but a whole tight knitted crew that feels like family, and suddenly they're gone again! In such a tragic way! And immediately back to her usual smile in front of her 'husband'!

waaah, xingzhou reciting the made up daily life that he supposedly had with miantang brought me to tears T^T it feels like he's genuinely imagining a sweet life that he wants to have with her but... their sweet and blissful days are going to end soon...

Same! It's very rare to have young parents in this type of story. I guess it's less appealing in this economy where birthrates keep going down. But in this story, the presence of a child brings an interesting dynamic. Especially because it's very rare for the type of character like Miantang; strong (mentally and physically), smart, free-spirited female lead; to be associated with pregnancy and chilbearing. Miantang is a proof that a woman doesn't have to compromise; she can be a wife, a mother, and still be all of the above at the same time!

Rather than saying there's visible age gap, I'm personally seeing more acting-skills gap between them. Last time I watched him in The Forbidden Marriage and I don't think there's any major improvement, at least from what I've seen in the teaser.

That said, Shin Min Ah is always a delight on screen so I'll definitely check this out once it comes out.

Well, well, well, what should I say; was I disappointed? Yes XD but also not quite lol. All things considered, it's probably for the better.

Now that it's starting to deviate further from the novel, I'm just going to sit here to enjoy the ride.

Cdramas always tends to have weird cuts at the end of episodes, make them feel like they're cut in the middle of the scene. This is why I usually choose to binge cause it's easier to ignore these weird editing quirks.
But, ugh, i just can not help myself with this drama.

Yea, there's also that one very particular smile that I noticed when she approved of lord huaiyang's actions, very cat-like. I haven't watched any of his drama before this, so I'm enjoying his various expressions in this drama without any previous context or previous characters however annoying they are. I just find him very entertaining.

I think this version of the character works for him. If they made his character here closer to the novel version, it would feel very boring and cliche.

To me, it's somehow harder to forgive this drama version of CXZ compared to the novel one. Even though he's goofier and more adorable here, he also lies more to the point of creating this truman show situation for her. Meanwhile novel version is more like, just accommodating her own elaborate imagination XD. In my perspective, LMT and CXZ's position in the novel are somehow more equal (equally crazy about each other lol) so it's easier to overlook his mistakes even though he was depicted as cold and ruthless at the beginning.
But yeah, both the novel and the drama version CXZ are meant to be grey. Grey is good cause real people always exist in a spectrum. For me, personally I judge characters based on their context and situation, because every stories have different settings and rules that exist in their own universe.
