i've watched her private life but i almost did not recognize the reference! maybe because it's been too long.. but now i wonder what else did i miss. it would be nice if we could all compile all the cameos and meta-references just for funsies

that's probably correct because there are just overall less romcom being made these days. i find this term encompasses so much of the characteristics that i love from korean romcom and i don't know why but it also feels nostalgic in a way, even though i have never watched any movies that was categorized as hollywood's screwball comedy. now i'm just digging into my completed dramas portfolio and trying to find which one that has similar characteristics.

it's crazy how i never went deep into romcom movie reviews and today i've just heard this term 'screwball comedy' from mina le's video; but now i realize that OMG yes, this is screwball comedy. sorry it's kinda unrelated but i just want to point out that this is such a fun little coincidence for me :D

It was a nice episode but I wish I could see more of KYD actually expressing himself. Probably need to work more on his micro expression or something. His performance in the first 4 episodes was fine, but once we get a glimpse of any situation with deeper, more complex emotions, I just can not comprehend what he's actually trying to convey.
Other than that, nothing that I can complain. I can see the writer having so much fun with this series. Me too. Like, I can't believe I'm saying this but, seeing a romcom being a romcom without any random serial killer is a breath of fresh air.

Been planning to watch this since last year, but since I've heard spoiler here and there, I keep pushing this back on my plan to watch. Now I'm here after finishing the first 5 episodes, and wow, this is one of the rare case where the reviews matched the quality of the drama. It's excellent and the only reason I might need to complain is just, this is the kind of drama that makes you need to sit back and take a deep breath after the end of every episode. Like, the impending doom hanging, and yet there's always some glimmer of hope... It's angsty but not 'cheap-angst', the kind that makes you appreciate little precious moments even though you know it will not end well...

I did a quick scroll and wonder exactly which comments mentions that FL looks as young as the ML, the closest thing was just one comment that mentions how they look close in age. But like, how is this opinion needs a reality check? And why is this creepy? They're both consenting adults, wayyy pass the legal threshold. Now, if one of them was underage, of course people are going to rage. And this usually happen, though not always, when the ML is older in a drama.
But yeah, if you're going to drop it, I'm not stopping you, or anyone for that matter. Just trying to make sense on this matter. Have a good day.

All in all, watching this taste like, what should I call it, 'Panda Express' probably the closest metaphor? For those who don't actually know Chinese food, they're good, even has quite a cult following. But it did not even nearly close to describe what Chinese cuisine actually is. They tried their best to work within their limitations to create something that could be easily accepted by a different crowd, and on it's own it's not a bad thing. But to completely dismiss it by comparing it to the original material is probably unfair.
At the end of the day, this is not a bad drama, but still, could've been better.

I was almost glad (even though it's kinda weird) that yun que does not have that much screentime in ep 14, but then I see the cast list and turns out she's credited as one of the main character? As if we need another person meddling into the main couple relationship 🙄

Now that YanXing already knows about ShenDu's night-blindness, hopefully she'll figure out that ShenDu didn't recognize her for a reason, and it's not because of XuWan.

Seriously though, little jealousy is ok, but if we keep going at this rate, they're going to find a new person to be jealous about in every episode until the 40th one lol

Did you mean li guangcai? He exists in the novel but yeah, this bit about the poetry is a drama addition that adds depth to his character. His romance with CXZ's sister was sweet, I hope the drama wouldn't drop it.
