MAN, WATCHING THE LATEST TEASER AND READING THAT SYNOPSIS, I FELT LIKE MY HEART WILL BE BROKEN FOR THE KING! Poor…
I've seen the characters chart and I'm expecting a heartbreak. Seo Ji Hoon's character seems to be in an unrequited love and I'm already dreading watching him suffer...I purely wanted to watch it for him so I'm now quite conflicted whether to watch it or not. Not that I dislike Kim Min Jae (boy is lovable) but second lead syndrome will be way too strong with this one *disappointed*
It took me ages to finish this one...due to bad subtitles. Overall, I liked it! It's one lovely, heartwarming and hilarious rom-com <3 This drama proves once again that Kim Ji Suk is main lead material... guy is so underrated, it hurts! (I can't believe he's still stuck in secondary roles) Final rating: 7,5/10 (I would have gave it a 8 if it weren't for those terrible subs *sigh*)
Watched this for Lee Joon Hyuk because I'm already missing him after DS60 and even though it was short, I found it pretty enjoyable. Sizzling chemistry (the way he carries her and looks at her was extra swoony), suspenseful, action-packed and fast-paced (no dull moments). Overall, a nice watch: 8/10
Have u noticed in www he appeared wearing a school uniform when he met mo geon as if he took a new role .. i believe…
Yep, I noticed too... except that the name tag on the shirt is different from his character on this drama lol...Kim Pil Ho in search www??? Baek Kyung here ;) September can't come any faster! *already feeling second lead syndrome*
The ending greatly made up for an otherwise uneven show. Last episode was the best of the series imho and finally made me warm up to all the characters... something the show has sorely failed to do before (it was also the first time I didn't feel the urge to ff scenes or even doze off). Main couple was my least favorite, I couldn't connect with them and felt no spark whatsoever between them. Park MoGun was bland, prince charming type, almost too perfect (only care about him in the last episode, looked more human after his mother's death...I know Jang Ki Yong can emote, why wait for the last episode to showcase this? *what a waste of talent*) and their on/off relationship was a turn-off (one thing the show did right though is that Tammy didn't cave to the pressure and stayed true to herself right to the end)
My favorite pairing was of course Scarlett and Ji Hwan, their scenes were the ones I was most looking forward each episode...they were the cutest and my main enjoyment of the series. Scarlett/Cha Hyun was by far the most compelling character and I loved everything about her (badass, feisty, cute, loyal, bubbly, stylish...thanks to the amazing portrayal of Lee Da Hee)+ her romance with Ji Hwan was beautiful and their chemistry was just off the charts....As someone would say "I will remember this year as the one I met actor Lee Jae Wook" *wink*, so young yet so talented! Definitely looking forward to his next projects.
Moreover, boy, was it satisfying to see Song Ga Kyung defying and taking down her (ex) mother in law, finally breaking free from her clutches!
Last scene was epic, our three main heroines putting on their sunglasses and driving off onto a road with no red lights. Just free like the wind! (and the song playing in the background was just WOW *grin*...the whole OST was truly wonderful)
I'm still mad with the ending but boy was I blown away by that kiss in Episode 13...one of the best kisses I've seen in a while. They were on fire! Kim Myung Soo/L may not be the best actor out there but he's one hell of a kisser! (my apologies for the shallow comment lol)
Is there any romance between Baek Yi Hyun and Song Ja In? Please tag your answer as a spoiler! Thanks in advance!
Yeah they unfortunately only interact over business matters...that's a shame because I could feel strong chemistry between them (we can only hope for them to meet again in another project). Yi Hyun's love interest was Hwang Myung Sim (Park Kyu Young). Concerning Jo Jung Suk, I like him but I'm not enamored with him. He's a great actor, that's for sure. Yoon Shi Yoon was of course my main reason for watching this show (this and because I love sageuk/historical dramas) Still, I highly recommend you to watch it! This drama is just breathtaking.
If Yoon Shi Yoon doesn't get an award after this I'll scream.
Count me in! Yoon Shi Yoon was mindblowing as the tormented soul Baek Yi Hyun, he deserves all the accolades!! Give the man an award! (he's criminally underrated)
@NotMuch Yep, agree...Plus, 'The Fiery Priest' got better ratings than 'The Nokdu Flower' during its run so Kim Nam Gil is almost assured to bring the award home (not that I mind because I love the guy too but if I have to choose, I'd give it to Si Yoon)
Just one word: Masterpiece. Stellar acting, amazing writing, an epic tale about two half-brothers becoming at odds with each other, fighting for their beliefs in the midst of those ever changing turbulent times. Yoon Shi Yoon as Baek Yi Hyun was my personal favorite but everyone was fantastic and delivered top-notch performances.
Best sageuk of 2019 and will easily go down as a favorite of mine for this year. Final rating: 9.5/10 <3
I agree with you, better than SITR, I think the biggest change, in my opinion is the female lead, she wasnt annoying…
Yeah, agree, FL was more likeable in this one. In SITR, she was wishy-washy and fickle (dropped the drama for that very reason...this and the crazy mother) OST Part 5 is a song from Carla Bruni :) (Title: Spring Waltz)
It could have been so much better. That's the first thought which crossed my mind after completing this drama. Charming premise, beautiful OST, stunning cinematography and lovely chemistry between the leads. I fell in love at first sight, got hooked only to be underwhelmed by the ending . Writer lost her way in the second half, even becoming a little sadistic in the latter episodes, adding angst just for the sake of it (beginning of episode 15 was especially painful to watch) and forgetting at the same time to tie up all the loose ends (no explanation whatsoever on how Dan became a human in the end and what was the deity's big plan?). As a result, ending felt rushed and not completely satisfying *what a shame*. At first, I was rooting for a happy ending but looking back at the journey as a whole, a sad ending would have maybe been more fitting imo. Final rating: 7.5/10 (mainly for the OST and the chemistry) Still enjoyable nevertheless.
Way better than 'SITR'...writer greatly redeemed himself here. JHI and HJM have sweet chemistry and the parents were less annoying in this one. Great cast. Overall, I liked it. Final rating: 8/10.
Edit: my only complaint is with the OST. Production seems to love Carla Bruni's songs/music...me not that much.
Drama faltered with the death of the main lead...Kim Jung Hyun hard carried the show and Seo Hyun didn't have the acting chops and charisma to save the drama.
Cha Hyun/Scarlett is the only reason I didn't drop this show yet... she's totally awesome and badass!(minus her unhealthy obsession with Song Ga Kyung who is, by far, the worst character of this series imo *I loathe bullies and manipulative b*)
Main leads' romance is bland and unappealing... and don't get me started with the lightning *it's so blinding that even my cat is shocked everytime Park Mogun appears on my screen in lover mode lol* Btw, I'm very disappointed with Ki Yong's performance (even if in the latest episodes he redeemed himself a bit), I agree with @crystalstars' comment, it's like he's reading his lines from a prompter, so robotic and stiff :/ I really like Bae Tae Mi but only as the strong independent career woman. She's the definition of "empowered". She takes no sh!t from anybody and is highly competitive. I like that.
Pros: *Scarlett, Scarlett, Scarlett (Lee Da Hee rocks!) *Scarlett and her blossoming relationship with weekend drama actor Seol Ji Hwan (cute xD) *Scarlett/Ta Mi's teamwork *Brian is also an interesting character. Veteran actor Kwon Hae Hyo really nails this role.
Cons: *Main Leads romance, not fluttering and it looks forced...I don't feel the chemistry, not because she's 13 years older than him irl but there's just no spark between them imo (I loved 'Witch's romance and there was a 20 years age gap between the leads!) *Song Ga Kyung and her in-laws *Park Mo Gun (prince charming without much substance)
