ML is a feast for the eyes (including lots of shirtless scenes). It's as appetizing as a bag of your favorite candies. It's hard to take your eyes off him. The king did not love Hong. Don't confuse obsession and possession with Love. These are two poles. The king used Hong as a tool, disregarding him and his feelings... he had been doing it since his youth... He wanted to make him fall in love with him so that if anything happened, Hong would be ready to give his life for him. If you love someone, do you make them have sex with someone else for your own selfish benefit? If you see it this way, it will be difficult for us to talk. This is not Love... it is the objectification of a human being and this attitude is typical of sociopaths... But please, don't tell me that the king had no choice... he just loved his position more. I fully agree with you. A gem of a movie. In a mature and balanced way, it presents obsession, the cruelty of those times, and intimacy (without embarrassing artificiality and without exaggeration). I don't know of any other film from that area that could compete with it. Even now, it would probably be difficult to find a film containing all this and made with class. I believe that these low ratings are mainly due to Korean and maybe Chinese audiences. As a European fan, after watching hundreds of movies and dramas, for the first time I gave it a rating higher than MDL, and much higher. 9.5/10 from me.
