Exactly. they are confused. But what surprises me is that they are very very well informed. They know about the national fortune that is in XQA, they know about almost all things. This makes me bet they are actually very intelligent. And if so, why are they enemies of Dafeng ?

This can be attributed to the insane emperor, which means he is no good in running the empire, putting people of Dafeng at risk, or simply because Dafeng is out of its national fortune so now the enemies just want to get a piece of it. We'll see. He is not his biological father so Kui, if meant to play a role in this, will be for or against Dafeng in the final battle, the very final one.

They are laying the ground for the next season but linking as well the answers to the questions we had in the beginning.
Who is Kui ? Who is their partner in crime ? What's with this people ? What kind of people are they ? The answer : they were tricked by the man in black though they seem intelligent and well informed. They don't seem bad.

true, but except a few answers that we will get before the end, if this Duchess has more to her then meets the eye, it can be explored in a future season. Clearly the man in black will not die now. He is at a close lever to the Supervisor So a future, stronger battle will be coming. much stronger. More sensible. So the Duchess will clearly have smth to do with it in the future.

The fox chick writes to her Kui master, they are all Kui, but they were hand in hand with the man in black at a certain point (gunpowder mines/ sanbao case - explosion/the arm, etc.) but now it seems as she put it "the alliance with the man in black was a joke from the beginning". So this means kui are now against one of the enemies of XQA and they have always been against the emperor. So, things look like there will be changing sides. Maybe..not sure. I don't think Kui is after XQA at this point. We'll see their move in the future.

lol. that's why rewatch value should be 10/10. This Duchess thing seems very sensible. Actually XQA just woke up with her there, not even being announced, her protector seems to dictate the terms of the ship's speed and route which made me think there's a conspiracy here. My feeling is that someone planned to kill that Duchess, so XQA will take the fall for not protecting her. Remember how the ministers jumped up like burnt saying : "We came here to investigate, not to guard the Duchess' butt".

More so, during the fight in the woods the Duchess said : Oh no ! He's using Kui to kill us, so she realized there's smth just not right. Now, who is this Duchess..God knows, and I'm sure it will be revealed at the right time as well as I'm sure that is smth important with her, because she can't get in the phone (smth to do with the qi power).

I bet the Duchess is aware there are certain things not in order, especially that she realized her bodyguard was using enemies of Dafeng to kill her. The next scenes she is reserved with info and fights to escape because she probably doesn't understand what is the plan surrounding her so she doesn't trust anyone at this point.

At the end of the ep. one thing is very clear. It's a lot of mystery that surrounds all the present actions. Did 3000 spilled their blood or not ? Why suddenly a Duchess with strong qi is there ? Why did she hide for so long using the beads XQA got for her in earlier episodes ? Are the Kui trying to steal the Duchess as a guarantee in negotiations vs Prince Zhenbei (Emperor's brother) or does she hold a certain special power that will help Kui win their endless battles with Dafeng ?

It's like luck, prosperity, good harvesting, power, winning battles, everything that goes on in a nation.

The FORTUNE (as a whole) is made from smaller fortunes (eg. : Men's Sect is around 1/2 of it) but Dafeng's fortune stays independent because it is a fortune of a nation not of individuals or sects, and in the same time it represents the nation's foundation which in time of war it is shaken and the outcome can be increasing the fortune (through victory) or decreasing it (with defeat).

In this moment the Fortune was stolen so Dafeng became unlucky and as a nation, is always on the verge of war, battle, something bad with someone. It still holds on but soon, if the Fortune doesn't return in time, Dafeng will be eaten alive and nothing will work inside the nation (no harvests, maybe national rebellion, no good fighters or scholars or sorceresrs, etc.)
