A very intersting story of power, deceit, family, and love.

I approached with series with a little bit of apprehension about the story line. I tooka few episodes to get into it; however, once I did it was gripping. It was an interesting story and you hold on right to the last half hour to see how everything turns out. But, well worth the watch.
Particular credit must be given to Kim Hye Soo for her excellent protrayal of a Queen who values and protects her family, her hisband (the King), the people she comes in contact with, and the country. Kim Hye Soo was excellent in this role.
Also worthy of mention is Oh Ye-ju as Yoon Cheong Ha. As a relatively new actress, she was excellent in her part. Bubbly, energetic, empathetic, and in-love she brought light and energy to every scene she was in. I suspect we will see much more of her.
And, this a bit of a spoiler, the cameo appearance by Jung Ji-hoon (Rain) in a scene with Yoon Cheong Ha was entertaining and fun. Oh Ye-ju is an actress under Rain's agency and it is said that his cameo was in support of his actress.

Not a favourite

Did not really enjoy this one. It might be because it's now 2021 and this was made in 2015. Although it had a happy ending (of sorts), it was very difficult watching the male centric / female subserviant-sacrificer plot line. It's possible that the cultural trends are outdated now as opposed to more modern trends, and it just might be that I am not well enough versed in Japanese culture and trends. While this was listed as a Romance, I felt that it leaned a little more toward Romantic Comedy at best. If you're into modern romance, I do not recommend this series.

My FIRST Kdrama let down!

I wasn't going to write a review of Start Up because I felt that I might be too negative. After reading some reviews, it appears that others saw the same flaws that I did.
Start Up started strong and looked great for first 2 / 3s of drama. Then started a downward spiral that left me totally baffled. It that surrounded the relationship development of main characters. By last few episodes I found it painful to watch. At the end, I was totally disappointed. For me, that was mainly around the final development of the main character relationship.
The problem? Bae Suzy's character degenerates into a helpless school girl character and ends up with the wrong guy. It's a matter of opinion; however, the 'other' love option was much more sincere and dedicated in his love FOR Base Suzy.
Bae Suzy was great; however, the writing for her character was awful.
I would be remiss if I did not mention that Stephanie Lee was great in her role. Beautiful, fun, and funny.
If there was a season 2 of Start Up??? Personally, I wouldn't waste one minute on it.
Absolutely my FIRST Kdrama let down.
