Yes a lot of compression due to budget cuts etc - stay with it. Ep 35 is sublime.

IKR! I still remember watching the first and second ep and literally doing double takes cos when it first started I just thought to myself "oh, here's ZZH yet again as the cold, repressed, deadly nobleman" and then a few minutes later it was like "what? wait a minute, rewind, rewind, I have to watch that again". And then boom, became fangirl playing Gu Meng every day -LOL!
And back in those heady days in end-Feb I didn't even know who GJ was! Had to search his name and previous dramas and when I realised he was the goofy sidekick prince in Lost Love in Times I was even more gobsmacked than I was with ZZH. The rest as they say is history :)

Ummm yes I too think Lou Yunxi for eg is definitely more well-known and has shown his acting chops already, unlike our two hidden gems ZZH and GJ who basically were waiting for this godsend of a drama for them to soar to the heavens. The greatest challenge will be for Immortality to live up to its promise since it's so highly-anticipated, cos as we all know big budgets and big attention do not necessarily translate to transcendence in c-dramaland. But fingers and toes crossed!

I fell into ZZH fandom too after ep 1 - who knew ZZH had such a range as an actor. Truly he was just waiting for the right script, the right co-actor, the right producer..........."很完美"!

I can't believe that they would lock it up for all time esp as it's also on amazon and viki - those platforms would basically have an incomplete series if they did. That would be a sucky move coming from youku at this stage, after they seem to have been bending over backwards to accommodate fans. Besides they should be happy enough with the proceeds from the concerts etc.

Also I wonder how ep 37 will be shown on viki and amazon? or they won't show it? that would be a real bummer for people who watch it for the first time and don't know that there is a bonus clip.

I just pressed fastforward every time I saw those 2 dopey lovebirds - they better stop with this awful editing in future episodes. Plus what is so important about CP2 dancing in flower meadows and taking forever to reach the hometown? Could have just cut out everything else and moved onto the sword making bit..........

Round about there. Well he's still a bit duhh, but shows some awareness about political realities - haven't read the novel but I assume this is where the tension between loyalty to the Ming and homeland will clash with realisation that Nurhaci is not just simply the big bad bogeyman...........what is irritating about these episodes is how they keep cutting back and forth between our hero up north and DFL and LSL - ugh just go get married and get a room already. I just found it jarring that the narrative keeps jumping back and forth every 2 minutes or so.

Fights are good and the filming locations very beautiful, but they take soooo long to tell the story..........still at least the hero gets better after a while.

that would really be cruel and unusual punishment - 7 nails plus...........

I feel the same - seeing those locations, suddenly seized by desire to visit China and realised it's been over 10 years since I last went. Oh well, maybe that will be one of the few places that one will be allowed to travel to once enough people are vaccinated.

IKR - in this one they really could have condensed those earlier eps more. Took ever so long to get into it, if not for the fight scenes and filming locations, would have been dropped.

There may be a method to his "simpleness" - see my comment above. He does demonstrate an ability to arrive at surprising insights after his time at the Shaolin Temple - maybe cos he doesn't have the brains, he doesn't "brain out" - LOL.

Yes really takes a while to warm up to the drama. I'm thinking tho' it's still the WOH effect - everything after that seems slow and lacking oomph - LOL.

crazy megalomaniac - as trapped in his obsession as ZJ..........my main thought re Prince Jin was "Just leave ZZS alone already, he said he wants to die and isn't interested in being the enforcer of your cray cray any more."
