I have watched 19 episodes and the main character does get better. His upbringing is kind of at fault for his…
It could be that his "simpleness" helps him esp to easily understand Buddhist principles when he gets to the Shaolin Temple. In some ways he can get to the heart of the matter much quicker than some of the people around him who are cleverer but who overthink things and/or are obsessed. This will allow him to pick up the Shaolin and Wudang martial arts more completely than the others chasing those arts.
Geez this Geng family gene pool is very concerning - all brawn and no brains is not a good prognosis for long…
Too true - LOL, even as a set up for the traditional emergence of the kid as hero, the father is way too duhhh and has too much bad luck for words. I'm just watching cos their fighting scenes are pretty good esp in the Shaolin temple. Kid is pretty duhh too, but luckily has streetsmart gf to guide him. So reminiscent of another wuxia story...........
"The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated," as the character you refer to would say. Have faith and…
i believe there is a version floating around on YT without subs. Otherwise just pay 1USD to youku to watch on the app with subs. Or wait till May 5. Also note you will have missed a lot of clues in ep 36 if you watched without subs which already signified that the ending is not sad.
Haiyoh - is there any costume c-drama (whether full-on wuxia or even with just a teeny smidgeon of wuxia) out…
Yes, I saw some reference to the plagiarism thing on twitter but didn't bother to read the thread. I guess we take so much of it for granted. I grew up in the heyday of HKTVB dramas so most of these things are just par for the course. Marvel's Shang-Chi coming out in September - wonder if that will help or hinder with all these pre-conceived notions?
LOL falling off cliffs seems like a recreational activity in c-dramaland... Like does anyone ever hit the ground?…
Falling off the cliff is like C-drama code for "I'll be back!" And they're always such huge and tall cliffs too.............Dilraba/Li Changge does plunge into and hits river (as close as we'll get to the ground:)) with an arrow in her (at least her manhua form does) but no worries, she just gets washed downstream and can even pull out arrow by herself after being fished out by Ashile Sun - LOL!
With this article in MDL about Wuxia & Xianxia : https://mydramalist.com/article/introduction-to-wuxia-dramas…
Haiyoh - is there any costume c-drama (whether full-on wuxia or even with just a teeny smidgeon of wuxia) out there without a falling off the cliff scene? Even after watching one or two period c-dramas you can already pick up on these conventions. Where do these fans come from? Did they just crawl out from some dark underground cave? I'm watching First Sword of Wudang now - a wuxia very much in the traditional vein -and of course just like clockwork, hero falls off the cliff! And BTW - how can they confuse the genres? They can't tell the difference between kungfu grounded in the human world/wulin/jianghu and dealing with the supernatural world and fighting demons/spirits by casting talisman spells, etc etc?
This is just getting silly now about Episode 17 special episode. They literally added 4 seconds to the original…
Yup. I had to really look closely to see the "special" bit. I mean if they want to do something really special, why not quickly go shoot some additional scenes which could help correct some of the plot compression in the last 5-6 episodes? Although oops - they have already auctioned off the costumes - LOL!
I believe it is a sad ending, one of them will died , so I dropped this drama, if i'm wrong please correct me.I…
"The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated," as the character you refer to would say. Have faith and watch ep 36 with bonus clip ep 37. WOH has one of the best endings in recent c-dramas - 很完美........
Can I say that Youku's marketing strategy is genius?? The drama has basically ended almost a month ago (at least…
With WOH, we have to coin a new term for post production - cos they are already way past post production! It's more like we're watching an actual live play on stage - every day some new interpretation/new angle is added. No audience reax is final - LOL.
This drama is the only one finally that is beginning to slightly, but only ever so slightly fill the hole left by WOH. Mostly, I'm loving the fighting scenes esp the hand-to-hand combat in the Shaolin Temple scenes. I'm also watching Court Lady but slowly - the subs on iQiyi are a little off as if they suddenly used auto-translate here and there so I've stopped while waiting for Viki to catch up. Haven't started Ni Chang. Even The Long Ballad is taking really long to grip me.
I loved the drama but there is one thought that made me upset about it The two main characters are killers both…
Did they ask to be forgiven except in CL's case? We're not getting a fairy tale here but a view of a complicated world with complicated choices. Not sure they both killed hundreds or that ZZH actually killed that child - we don't see that so the jury's out. ZZH was doing his duty as he saw it and supporting someone he thought would bring peace and order to the people. WKX had to kill to survive the Ghost Valley. Plus this is the wulin/jianghu - killings and beatings even by those considered heroes are a normal occurrence. I don't see much hand-wringing in the novel about their pasts. And yet both can still see something worth saving in the other - rewatch carefully and note how ZZS says that only someone with a pure heart/mind can play the meditation melody in ep 4 and in ep 12 during their date when he tells WKX that he is a good person.
