ZZH now endorsing Mabelline foundation while GJ is doing L'Oreal sunscreen. So just wondering, for the China market, is it common for women's cosmetics to be promoted by guys, or is it that these 2 are just so hot at the moment that everyone wants them to sell everything?
Aiyoh - everyone stop with the sad/bad endings already! No one except the bad guys died in ep 36. Did we see WKX…
Ummmm, they can choose that interpretation if they like but don't tell others to drop it if they don't want to be hurt........I feel like posting a topic entitled "WKX says "The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated!" :)
I loved that WoH included 2 scenes of the cutting of the sleeves.
Some of it is the source material by Priest but some of the greatness of WOH is also due to the scriptwriter Xiao Chu, who is also very well-read and steeped in wuxia tradition as she has been a hardcore wuxia fan since she was 9. She had to expand on the source material because the novel is actually quite a short work.
Did you also note the significance of the shaobings?
Watch ep 2 again when the camera for some reason cuts to Ah Xiang toasting the shaobings/flatbreads - esp when ZZS and WKX start flirt-fighting over CL's injury...........now watch the explanation of what that shaobing scene refers to: https://youtu.be/jbh5XQ8RWdQ Oh ya and then see if you are able to eat pancakes with a straight face after that :) I remember showing the scene to my friends (all of us are overseas chinese) - everybody learnt something new that day - LOL.

Who knows? Literally just before Youku started changing the YT version we had a discussion here about whether Youku could show a different version for international fans on YT and everyone was - nah, not going to happen and then kapow..........the rest is history, or rather the rest is still in perpetual post production.
omg wtf was this ending? I cried so much, I have a headache. How did WKX survive? It felt like a hallucination.…
See Recent Discussions for info on the details of the ending and/or watch Avenue X live stream of WOH ending. They filmed a few versions of the ending and indeed in one of them WKX is an illusion. But the ending we’re given is a happy ending. This has been pieced together from the clues left by YBY and Cheng Ling’s real lines at the end. The kid at the end is Deng Kuan’s son with Gao Xiao Lian and he is practicing WKX’s family sword skills meaning he has been taught by WKX personally not ZZS. Meaning WKX is alive and kicking ass as an immortal on the mountain with ZZS. I am quite sure they survive by practicing dual cultivation as only soulmates can successfully do with the Liu he practice - that is the secret that lies at the heart of the Liu he practice. As YBY discovered before with Rong Xuan’s father. For me the ending is therefore 完美 wanmei as WKX puts it or to borrow ZZH’s most recent line 很完美 hen wanmei!
The real final episode is episode 37, which is a special episode. It is too bad that the episode 36, which is…
Aiyoh - everyone stop with the sad/bad endings already! No one except the bad guys died in ep 36. Did we see WKX definitively die? No, that’s just people making assumptions and not listening to YBY and picking up clues about dual cultivation. Ep 36 was for the censorship board - this was the ‘ending’ that had to be given to them or else it would not have been approved. But all along, the screenwriter Xiao Chu, said it would be a good ending and everyone knows Priest also writes happy endings.... For more on the ending see Recent Discussions above. BTW - the Liu He practice is totally different from the Yin Yang manual - they are not one and the same thing nor did WKX combine the two. Please rewatch WOH carefully to figure out which practice does what and how. The Yin Yang method is particularly problematic as it involves organ harvesting and transplant....... And no, people should not drop WOH, especially as it’s quite likely Youku may give a complete ending in the YT version of ep 36 since the series is now ‘safe’ from the censor’s chopping board. No matter what, YT is not going to leave its international fandom hanging with a weird ending- would a network that has been able to pivot and respond to every major criticism and wish by fans by re-editing, re-dubbing and adding extra scenes to its ongoing YT release do this? Not in a million years!
Really? It looks great on him. Actually anything looks great. But can somebody explain to me why people underestimated…
Luckily everyone underestimated it. I think it being so underrated and there being almost zero expectations and no promotion surrounding it was why WOH took us all by storm. There were no expectations to disappoint and things could only go up, and when ZZH/GJ gave us those stellar performances the drama just rocketed into the stratosphere. I still remember my initial reax to those first 2 episodes - I really had to go sit down (I had been watching ep 1 while cleaning my living room), rewind and rewatch just to make sure I was watching those same actors I had seen previously, and either didn't know their name (GJ) or written off as the perpetually cold, stick-up-ass, hair-in-victorian-bun prince (ZZH)...........Also it being under-promoted probably saved it from being chopped up by the censors.
It is BL inasmuch as can be shown in a period c-drama produced in mainland China. There is no doubt about the BL, in case the audience doesn't get it there are not 1 but 2 scenes with cut sleeves, shots of shaobings, and even wedding rituals thrown in. There are not so hidden lines underneath the overdubbing which have been decoded by netizenry on YT - some of which would probably not even have been allowed in BG period drama, and there are intimate scenes (again bearing in mind the caveat in my opening line) which really don't leave that much room for doubt..........just watch it for youself and judge.
WOH has allowed GJ and ZZH to portray a wide range of emotions and expressions, I think it is also thanks to the…
If you had watched them previously you would have been gobsmacked at the difference in WOH. I know I was, and now a fan girl. It took a very special conjunction of the heavens to bring about WOH as we now have it, and could not have come about without a genius scriptwriter, Xiao Chu, the production team and COVID-19.
I love shows that introduce and bring me closer to that country's culture, histories, current news and politics,…
Avenue X has done a few including talking about the hidden lines - look up her videos on WOH. Also check out Chinese Star News YT videos - he goes into some detail about idioms and poems as well. There is also mention of the gay cultural references such as the shaobings in EP 2 and the historical meaning of cut sleeves.
Oh ya and then see if you are able to eat pancakes with a straight face after that :) I remember showing the scene to my friends (all of us are overseas chinese) - everybody learnt something new that day - LOL.
