Seems like Rui’s dualism will be at its maximum here. So far...I've seen him strong, soft, wild, youthful, delicate nd yet having commanding, cold, and stern presence. Every pic, clip nd face expression were diff. ...I guess we should just strap in for the roller-coaster ride..☠️⚠️👌

I'll def gonna continue RI, i was waiting for the ep to pile up, i can't with this 1 ep/week thing..tho i making an exception right now with 2 new donghua. One is Beyond Time's Gaze..another Ergen work..it’s excellent..not just the character nd world building but the animation itself. I like how darker nd more brutal the world is, nd the mc a survivor from the slums. That's the only thing I'm watching rn..nd reading this manhua.
When i started watching WoF i was visiting the mdl pge nd noticed some acc pushing stronly for the romance plot..nd some messy fighting with bromance fans..maybe i could recognize the name if you're willing to share...the romance wasn't there imo, not in those 15 episodes I'd seen before this pause of mine..but my general attitude is ship whichever character with whomever just don't be hostile abt it, requesting others to think the same nd it was annoying seeing some comments doing just that..and another annoying thing is downvoting cause of little to no romance ..these dramas tend to be more intelligent imo but get trashed purely cause of the no-romance thing..

Lol... tbh i haven’t heard abt the reverse harem thing...only stuff about the two main ML leads nd her. As far as I know..Jan Jiang and Wei Jing are friends tho Jan Jiang keeps denying it ..even when they’re basically inseparable nd glued tght. Shortly, JJ is young high positioned genius with a short temper, flares up easily. He has zero sense of direction and gets lost constantly...flusters easily and have an aversion to romantic attention from women..

Not knowing the original work is an advantage for us...so it might be good on its own even if the book fans end up charging in like cavalry with big guns.
I like the cast too...and from what I’ve gathered about Rui’s char arc, with no spoilers...if they stick to the original, I’m def gonna love his character.
Not sure abt his screentime, but even with less time his char should be distinctive nd memorable...in that sense it reminds of Gong Yuanzhi nd the impression he left..

Not sure yet, I’ve only started the anime. But ppl i know who read the novel and watched the anime were basically like....what the heck is going on?! they didn’t even recognize some arcs ..the tone used.
Maybe they’ll be leaning into comedy… or even thought...ooh, we changed so much...we don’t need IP rights.😄..which is deadly wrong ofc..
If they've really changed big the overall story nd arcs, it’s a perfect example of why you shouldn’t market smth as a novel adaptation. If altered to the point of being unrecognizable the book's fan's fury nd rage they unleash is justified imo. Tbh they should just say..forget the book, we’re doing our own thing..like they are doin in this Rui's new drama.

Hope so too..but I’m keeping my guard up after Rosy Clouds…😆 big budget...huge names..based on a massive popular IP... and somehow no one said....hey, maybe we should check nd get covered this IP thing? and the rest were like...naaah, it’s fine. ...not like this drama can get shelved over some little detail..🥴🙃

I don’t think there are that many fans..so probably not. So i even get why they’d brand it as original if they’ve made bigger changes. It’s even the right move imo... no point in marketing it as a novel adaptation when it wasn't the goal nd the mc or key plot elements nd char arcs are changed...
My only hope is that the IP rights are properly secured...nd it shouldn't be an issue with a smaller IP...that’s it. I don’t wanna see new Rosy Cloud thing happening again.

At first...i saw the director call it an original work but I got curious and found the novel talked abt here. Skimming through it it’s imo deff based on that story..i recognized the same fictional world, some characters nd some plot elements. So i don't doubt it’s based on the novel, the parts of it. As long as they secure the IP rights....there’s a lot they can change, so it becomes a "reimagining" , the term we we often see nowadays.
And they are def making changes here.. the mc is a girl in the novel..it seems like they are changing the timeline of one bigger event happening in the novel nd to do that they would probably have to cook up a new explanation background story behind it. So when they say original it’s probably because they’re planning a loose adaptation, making these bigger changes like a gender swap, other plot elements changes, toning down some fantasy elements etc..and want to avoid marketing tied to a novel adaptation nd headaches that could potentially come from the novel readers, expecting faithfulness to the novel. So in a way, it’s kind of a new story, nd it's yet to be seen what other changes they will make..
By the way, it seems like a smaller IP. The novel has around 650 chapters... but the traction numbers are not big.. at least not on the two main web book sites where i found it.

Oooh, it was a little of me. I just copied nd pasted the texts that fans put together 😄 but i have now high expectation cause it combines the things i like, like those mystery detective vibes with supernatural elements....political intrigue around high ranking characters and those fantasy elements tied to his true identity, likely having more than one layer that will be reavelead one by one...

From what I quickly skimmed in the novel, it has fantasy elements. On the Chinese book site it’s tagged as xuanhuan, horror, mystery..and smth i rarely see... the tag #No romantic pairing 🙃.
Based on the official synopsis... I think the drama will lean much more into realistic elements. That would make sense ..without high budget CGI will probably be limited..nd the fantasy elements toned down.
My guess is that we’ll mostly see him working in his shop, using it as a cover while taking on and cracking bizarre cases.... that likely may involve evil ghosts, or other creatures. This could be done well even with lower usage of cgi. By solving them, he helps the people who come to him....he gains merits to gradually repair his body and cultivation which were severely damaged when he was murdered in his previous life. I believe that the drama will keep the devouring cultivation aspect of the novel... his ability to absorb the cultivation of defeated creatures, the fastest way to rebuild himself. I’ve seen similar effects done well even in lower budget drama Butterflied Lovers.
At the same time he’ll be digging into what really led to his murder. It starts or should start with him awakening in a mass grave, having forgotten his past or chunks of it. That’s where the political intrigue comes in. It all connects to Xuanmen .. the sect or power structure where he was once considered a prodigy. On the surface... the sect follows the righteous path and holds an important position connected to the imperial court. The official synopsis hints that he’ll uncover a bigger conspiracy and the role of the high ranking Tantai Quin and his minions. He once walked the righteous path but turned to darker nd occult methods that now threaten the mortal world nd the final battle will be btw the the righteous ones joining Jiuchuan nd Tantai Quin ..end that's where the story ends ...in the novel too.

These details have been circulating online and my guess is that they’re probably pieced together from the original novel. So far we don’t know how closely the drama will stick to it, and the first info suggests it might be only loosely. So probably the same fictional world but which characters, arcs, and plot elements they keep...change or build on is still unclear.
