I didn't quite get the part about it being a waste of time. The final cut came really fast for a cdrama of this scale, around 3 and 1/2 months. The dubbing is mostly done. Rui finished his in Shanghai in just days, and for actors dubbing their own roles, experienced ones usually take up to a week. And 19 ost songs to finish and produce ...so that's all fast in my book...
So the other thing is the promo itself..not having more than posters, wrap-up vlogs, might be a deal between the producers and a cost decision... and not necessarily a blockade. So maybe it's deliberate...with so many leaks and huge fanbases they might have calculated that can afford to skip extra promo and costs. Releasing the trailer a week or two before airing is enough in their own view to build huge hype just before it airs...but these are all just guesses..

I've seen it way too many times... people treating gjm like some all-powerful deity who decides the fate of every drama he touches, and if someone even breathes wrong it's his fault. Even in dramas where he's not the solo director... like fof...
In vos his company is just one of four producers. Youku is also in the mix as one of the producers... so the idea that gjm alone is pulling every string like some villain is… hmmm… creative… even to my liking as some evil deity... lol... but unrealistic.
We don't know who's really deciding the promo among the four companies nd who covers the cost...but vos can survive without it and even be successful cause it's unique in many ways... we got so many leaks and they act as low-cost promo... the leads have dozens of millions of followers and some side char are very popular too. These ppl are waiting for it to air so the hype is already built-in just from the sheer nr and the size of the fanbases..
And let’s not forget the fire and how costly it was... the set was destroyed and rebuilt and the money to cover it probably came from somewhere else...maybe even the promo budget..
So whatever the reason for not promoting it like other dramas ..if deliberate or just some messy infighting, lack of money .... I don’t see it as GJM lazily trolling us... tho he's short as a troll ...lol..

Can’t wait for VoS...tho I still don’t know which version of his character I’ll like the most… probably all of them😁, including the bluish-white anime version. ..and the short but super cute Yuan Xizai. Rui is incredible at portraying all of them in such a distinctive way as we saw just from reuters alone...
