It is a plot hole, but maybe he tolerated her until she hurt his pride at the party. Plus, I think she never really rebelled until the party. So at its core, this conflict is just a very rich man being cranky over being told ‘no’.

True, I am biased and all, but he was genuinely surprised when she actually agreed. It was clear he was playing and didn’t actually expect her to do that, but when she did he was like “This thing just got real!”. Though it doesn’t excuse him, let’s hope Leshan beats him real good.
