Guys! Can someone explain to me why does the guy have to be the one paying? I saw comments on the episode 7 where…
I don’t think the comments are about paying/money but the way the commenters feel about this. He first tricked her in to buying dinner for the team with him, then choose a fancy restaurant, order a lot of expensive dishes. on top of that he ‘forgets’ his wallet and let her pay for it all. After the harsh treatment from SML and from ML himself (caused by his misunderstanding but still) viewers want her to be treated as a princess. To me that scene is about connection and easiness. ML his teasing (fully aware of her being able to pay easily) creates a bond between them. Later he buys her clothes and gives her his wallet to play. That shows it’s not about money, it’s about equality and trust. It’s also a contrast with SML who is always insecure about money and always what to be equal. Like paying back the hospital money with interest.
I wanna know too.. I hope one of the novel readers can update us..
The girl who fell in love with ML at the party is the adoptive daughter of FL father. The daughter of the woman who is later explained as the reason for the divorce between FL parents. The old friend with only a few years to live (still and again). So the ML thinks he is asked to meet the FL wich he is eager to do so. But the FL didn’t notice ML at that party, doesn’t know him at all and never had a meeting planned. After ML accident the girl who wanted to meet him never shows up in the hospital so ML has a grudge against her for that. Still thinking it’s FL. That misunderstanding hasn’t been cleared up yet as of ep 10.

Ep 1: 3:52 ML gets call from friend Jiaqi. Jaiqi asks ML to come to Wuxi to meet a girl. She fell in love with ML at first sight at his (Jaqi) mother party. Jaqi says to ML that the girl is really stunning and Nie Chengyuan’s daughter. Flashback from ML to the party: ML staring at FL (5:05). Love at first sight for him. He suddenly agrees to the meeting. Next scene ML is in his car to Wuxi to meet her and has an major accident. Spoiler below.
I saw somebody’s comment who said he/she/they really liked the SML as a minority of the people here. So, you…
For me SML isn’t a almost perfect character because of his lack of communication skills fueled by a mega inferiority complex. But if you mean perfect in sense of education (top class) and looks (although handsome not my style) I hear you! But then again ML is far more perfect! Genius scholar, really handsome (yes, my type 🤭) compassionate en genius doctor, succeeding in 2nd career and upper social class with money (if you care for that). ML wins the competition with a landslide!
Trust me, no one likes 2MLon this page even after 9 episodes. I don’t think even the actor’s family is shipping…
Hi there! I’m the one in no one 🫣. I really could like the SML. Not because of his looks, he is not really my type, ML is ☺️. I really wanted to give him a chance because I felt his mega inferiority complex in the words not said but also felt his attraction and like for her in his actions. To me in first few eps of show he is a really struggling and grey character. Feeded by Rong’s schemes he makes poor choices and doesn’t communicate at all. The turning point for me is the walk home conversation in ep 4. His affectionate gaze doesn’t soften the harsh words (unmotivated, lazy, spoiled) anymore.
ikr I was smiling throughout the whole interaction. the guy was so far off smiling without realising he was just…
Thx Anya for your insights! I must say I really like that show is more ambiguous (for me at least) the the book when it comes to like or dislike SML. I like that he is a really grey character who takes clumsy actions but can’t express himself properly because of his inferiority complex. So Rong is manipulating his little brother in the novel. The manipulation is there in show but for me more trough the roommates. There was one scene I didn’t really understand. Watched it twice because of the sub speed 🤭but made no sense to me. SML mother is pushing him to Rong and making some kind of comment about owning her. Did you understand with your knowledge of the novel?
So I’m up to speed and really enjoying this one! Waiting will be torture… Some of my takes with a spoiler…
I saw somebody’s comment who said he/she/they really liked the SML as a minority of the people here. So, you are not alone, me too. At least partially. There are actions that show affection. Like handing in her resume for her, helping her with her thesis, protecting her from behind at the bus stop. He really wants to be close to her. Applying to a job near him, pretending not to have money for a cab so that he can walk her back really show affection. But his words doesn’t. That’s why I was conflicted between like and dislike. I feel his inferiority complex. The push from his mother to Rong (feels like some kind op debt wich I really didn’t understand, so anyone?) who has the same background. The financial gap is huge. Takes a lot stronger man to handle that. But I didn’t dislike him. He was just poor at communicating and she keeps misunderstanding his intentions because he doesn’t state them clearly. But Rong knows and in some extent the other ‘friends’ do to. For me that alone makes them toxic. They are totally buying Rong’s quasi innocence front. Nobody told her Rong is in love with SML and nobody told her I think SML likes you. The scene about the missed telephone call was just really highlighting that for me.
So I read a lot of comments saying they didn’t like that the 4 first eps were all about the SML but for me I really was hooked from ep 1 and needed them to get to know her and her story with the SML. I als saw a lot of comments that say they don’t understand why FL likes SML. And I agree to some extent. It isn’t really shown except from her immediate liking him in white, with shorter hair in the snow. But if they had shown more of them together it would have taken more then 4 eps and that would leave the ML out of the story for too long. So I treat her liking as a given without reason.
So back to the beginning. After my initial like of the ML, at least recognizing his like for her, what changed my like in to dislike was the walk home scene in ep 4. His words: calling her unmotivated, lazy and spoiled were really really harsh and uncalled for. Even delivered with those affectionate eyes that give away his like for her. He really and totally lost me there.
And in comes ML! I’m so looking forward to today’s eps!

Tell me more! I’m really struggeling because I want to like 2ML (not love, like) because FL likes him. But he’s really hard to like when he thinks of her as unmotivated, lazy and spoiler rotten (ep 4). So harsh! But at the same time he looks at her with affectionate eyes and then I can’t really hate him either…
Yes, why? Grandparents were really prominent and then *POOF* gone. For ML and kids as SIL as well. Bad writing…
The grandparents are his late wife’s parents. He has a mother who is alive. In earlier eps FL was asked about his parents (by Lili Jie or bestie, can’t remember). FL reaction is that ML will tell in his own time. At the end the car scene felt for me like: this is a storyline we put out there and needs wrapping up.
this is a remake of five children(kdrama) which I love so much especially the last few episodes of it. but this…
This isn’t worthy to be called a remake. It isn’t even an adaptation. They stole some great ideas and made them in something terrible. Totally agree that this is unwatchable (and yet I watched it 🫣😂🙃😬).
We made it! I’m so proud of us. Ep 29-30 The End! What are you watching next?
I don’t have much left to say. These 2 eps where slow and warp speed at the same time. A lot of drama with SIL and master that just end there at his grave. The MIL and especially the FIL who were really prominent in earlier eps nowhere to be seen. Not even in the too long but too short ending scene.
Again most screentime for Ex and Mistress. Divorce, scammers, plotting the kidnapping. We see al lot of slow scene with the ex. Him waiting, him lying in bed. Sooo slow and so much time wasted that could have shown the story of the leads. And after all that drama we don’t really no what happens to them. Only that ex mother dies and Ex lost apartment.
Story had potential at first (because stolen from K-drama) but didn’t deliver AT ALL.
I can’t wrap my brain around this either. If you’re looking for merging of two families I can recommend Five…
I remember the beginning of FE wasn’t really good. There is a scene in the bakery with ex, mistress, FL and ML that was really cringe. But it does get better. I really liked the story of the romance and then the merging of the families. The first set-up eps you have to get through. I also really liked the storyline of the sister and the golfer. SIL was ok, not my favorite but she got good character development.
definitely, I was excited for this drama because of the 2 families merging and the second chance romance between…
I get it, it’s long. For me it works because I’m watching such a long drama differently. Each day I end the day with an episode sometimes less, sometimes more. It’s a way to relax and unwind. I don’t binge. This way I’m really feeling the show and the characters. But after weeks enjoying this show it was hard to say goodbye!
