Moving on to Vegas. In my opinion, Vegas is one of the most complex characters in the series and very interesting…
Well, first of all A BIG THANK YOU for taking the time not to only read but also give your feedback and write your own thoughts.
Secondly, your english is good as well, I could understand perfectly what you wanted to get across.

I am glad you agree with me and there are things you noticed as well. As you mentioned, Pete does not not allow himself toget carried away by his emotions. He uses his smile as a way to disconnect from the reality, to put up a wall that will protect him from his trauma. That is why he is interested in Vegas too. Since he spent a lot of time spying on him he is able to read him like a book, just like he did in ep 11 during their conversation.

Pete is definitely the right person for Vegas, he is the only one who can see beyond Vegas' trauma and understand him. His understanding of Vegas provides a new perspective to Vegas himself that will give him the motivation to change. Vegas will change on his own but he needs something to trigger that change. Pete is that trigger.

I am glad you enjoyed reading it, thank you for for kind words and compliments šŸ’– You also seem really observant and you pay attention to detail which shows your own intelligence.

Lol I would love an analysis on mešŸ˜‚, would be fun to see how others percieve me.

I am so glad you enjoyed it, and I am happy I achieved my goal , which was to show Pete's traits and bring in a new perspective on the characters.I think his actual personality is overlooked. He is a deeper character than what we see, at least in my eyes.

once again thank you for your timešŸ’–

spot on pete analysis there!! i agree he does his quite job well. in fact, he is close to perfection in performing…
EXACTLY! I really wanted to analyse his character cause there is so much depth in him and his traits tend to get overlooked. It is a shame that the series does not explore his character more but I had enough clues to work with and analyse xD

Moving on to Vegas. In my opinion, Vegas is one of the most complex characters in the series and very interesting…
So what happens when those two sides are forced to meet and their worlds collide?

To begin with, the series did a great job at establishing a foundation for the relationship between Vegas and Pete. They had started building their relationship on hints and foreshadowings.

The first hint is their mutual attraction towards each other. As mentioned before, Pete seemed happy with Porsche’s remark that Vegas had smiled at him.But what made Pete attracted to Vegas? Every time Vegas touched him, a feeling of pleasure and at the same time a feeling of uneasiness overcame him. As if he could not comprehend why he feels those mixed emotions that contrast with each other. This is what might have made him a little interested in Vegas , Pete is good at reading his surroundings but Vegas is a mystery. Pete is drawn to that feeling of the unknown and he wants to explore it further. Pete is curious in nature and Vegas intrigues him even more. Another hint of Pete’s attraction to Vegas is his famous line about heroes and villains. This line lays the ground for his future understanding towards Vegs and it foreshadows their relationship.

On the contrary, Vegas did not seem initially interested in Pete. Vegas is not interested in anyone that can not be used as a means for him to achieve his goal. Therefore, he focused all his attention on Porsche at first. But, that changed when Pete was asked to spy on Vegas. Vegas started to notice Pete but he only saw him as a new toy to mess around in the sidelines since he had more important matters to be concerned about. However, the more Pete spied on him the more fun Vegas had. Vegas made no secret of the fact that he knew Pete was following him, he was subtly showing that he knew it,it was an opportunity for him to let elements of his true character reveal themselves but at the same time, he was maintaining his good image. He only let his true colors show the moment the truth came out and Pete was caught.

Following another hint, that is the temple scene. During that scene the positions of Vegas and Pete were the same as that of a married couple, foreshadowing that these two will end up together. Then Vegas said ā€˜ā€™ Let’s make merits together so we can see each other in our next life as well’’. Which might be a foreshadow for Vegas’ change later on. Pete will come into his life and change it for the better, he will be reborn as a better man and Pete will be by his side. The thing is Pete will not fix Vegas, Vegas will fix himself for Pete, because he has motivation and thanks to Pete he will see things differently.

I noticed that the lighting in the series plays a major role so I wanna talk about it and how it symbolizes the relationship between Vegas and Pete. In Vegas’ analysis I explained what the color green means concerning his personality. But what does it mean when it comes to his relationship with Pete? Green is also associated with balance, fresh growth and rebirth. All those traits that will come to Vegas’ life with Pete's arrival. Pete will make Vegas see things through a new lens that will provide him with a different perspective in life, thus he will bring balance to Vegas’ life. The balance in turn will bring a fresh growth, since Vegas will see things differently he will grow as a person and finally he will reach the final stage, that of rebirth.

Equally important is the color red. Apart from anger and violence, it symbolizes danger as well. The colour red dominates the whole scene during the torture, demonstrating Vega’s anger and the danger Pete is in. At the same time, the color of red is a symbol of romantic love and physical passion, which once agains foreshadows their future relationship.

In the scene of Vegas and Pete where they share a bonding moment over their trauma the lighting is green mixed with some spots of yellow. Some of the things that yellow represents are warmth, positivity, optimism and enlightenment. During their conversation, Pete provided Vegas with a new realization that offered him enlightenment, he enlightened him that his suffering is not due to the fact that he is a failure, but because his father is not good enough himself. Pete turned Vegas’ world upside down at that moment and made him question everything he knew until now. Later on, when Vegas is beaten again by his father he goes to Pete. This time he does not vent his anger on Pete, he says instead that he does not hurt as much as before. Pete’s words brought him warmth, Pete opened Vegas eyes with his words and made his pain more bearable. He then proceeded to make him noodles and they shared a domestic moment. The realization that Pete brought upon him made Vegas see things in a different light and he is starting to change. He no longer treats Pete the way he himself is treated by his father. He now treats him the way he wants to be treated, with kindness.

Talking about the lighting, I could not overlook the lighting of the episode’s 12 preview. Our usual red and green lighting mixed with yellow at times is now replaced with pink, purple and blue.

Let’s start with pink . We see in the preview that pink takes over Vegas’ side only. Red was the color previously associated with Vegas, but now it is toned down and the result is pink. Pink is linked to toning down aggression which was represented by the color of red. Pink is the color of tenderness and affection. Vegas’ aggression and anger subsided and are now replaced by tenderness and affection and this is shown by the change of the red light to pink. This change is also evident in his hand’s movements. During the torture scene where red was the dominant light in the scene, Vegas would touch and caress Pete but in the end he would end up holding Pete in a chokehold. In contrast to now, under the pink light Vegas caresses Pete and his hand lands softly on Pete’s chin instead of aggressively grabbing his neck.

Next is blue. While Vegas is under the pink light ,Pete is under the blue light. It is also worth to note that Pete has been associated with the color of blue since his own trailer. Blue is a marker of loyalty, fidelity, bravery and dedication. Four words that describe Pete perfectly. Pete is the head bodyguard, he is loved and well trusted by the main family and he has proved his dedication not only to them, but to the people close to him. For example, he was willing to risk his own life by entering Vegas’ house only to prove Porsche’s innocence. An act of bravery, dedication and loyalty. Blue is also believed to have relaxing effects, just like the effect that Pete has on Vegas. Vegas was only able to relax after a long time only in the presence of Pete. Furthermore, blue symbolizes wisdom and depth of understanding. I mentioned before during his character analysis that Pete is wise since he has the ability to look beyond the surface and look at things in a more objective view. That ability of his also allows him to be a good judge of character and demonstrates his dept of understanding. Unlike the color of red that represents passion, blue represents serenity and stability. Pete tries to maintain a balance in his life by always looking at the bigger picture and showing understanding. He does not allow himself to get overwhelmed but he tries to keep control and his cool. He maintains a balance between his feelings and his duty. Pete is the opposite of Vegas, the other side of the coin. Vegas gets driven by emotions whereas Pete does not let his emotions get the best of him. He buries them behind his smile. Blue is also a symbol of depression and the depths of the human psyche. Which brings me back to my point that Pete hides his trauma and only appears to be happy when in reality he is not as optimistic as he likes to show.

Finally, we have purple. Purple is half-red and half-blue, in other words it is the colors that represent Vegas and Pete mixed together.Purple creates a harmonious balance of awareness and peace. Awareness and peace is what Vegas and Pete will reach together thanks to their relationship. Purple symbolizes the harmony they will bring out of one another. They will complete one another and together they will balance each other out .

Lastly, talking about symbols I can not leave out the hedgehog. I am convinced that there is a reason that Vegas has a hedgehog as a pet and not a dog or a cat or a goldfish. I have talked about how hedgehog is a symbol of Vegas, but it is a symbol of Pete and their relationship as well.

I might be looking too much into it, but I am very interested in the details so I looked up a bit of information concerning the symbolisms behind hedgehogs.

In dreams, if you meet a hedgehog it means you will make a new acquaintance who will be honest and loyal. It has already been made clear that Pete is loyal and even if he might not be completely honest as he hides his true feelings, he still does not lie in an attempt to deceit anyone. ''No legacy is so rich as honesty', he might be hiding his pain and trauma but he never lied about his love and dedication to the people close to him. Also, based on some articles I found,a hedgehog is a symbol of curiosity, adaptability and patience. All kinds of traits that Pete has shown throughout the show. Moreover, Vegas has his hedgehog in the series caged, just like he has Pete chained and both are forced to stay with him and their life lies in his hands as he is the only one who can take care of both of them under these conditions. The hedgehog is a symbol of both Vegas and Pete. It serves as a bridge that connects the two and combines traits of both of them indicating that they belong together.

To conclude, Vegas and Pete are two sides of the same coin. Τhey are the opposite of one another, but their problems and the situations they find themselves in seem to be similar, it is just the way they are dealing with them that is different. That is the reason why once those two are forced to meet they will bring harmony and balance to each other’s lives. They will finally be complete.

And that concludes my VegasPete analysis, If you read this far you are more than a legend and you have my gratitude.

Okay since I am too obsessed with VP and I think they are very interesting \ I ended up writing an analysis on…
Moving on to Vegas. In my opinion, Vegas is one of the most complex characters in the series and very interesting to analyze.I think Vegas is the opposite of Pete, as I said they are two sides of the same coin and I will further explain why.

Vegas was introduced as one of the main antagonists of the series and Kinn kept reminding Porsche not to trust him and to keep away from him.He is double-faced and multilayered. It is hard to tell who is the real him. Just like Pete, he got his nice mask on and acts all smiley but his smiles are different from Pete’s. They have malicious intentions and they are mostly smirks indicating cockiness and a feeling of superiority. It is fascinating to me how both Pete and Vegas use their smiles as weapons to survive in the world of crime but their intentions differ. Vegas uses his smile as a means to deceive others with the purpose of hurting them, while Pete uses his smile to protect himself. Vegas acts nice and is diplomatic with the purpose of manipulating others. He acts like a puppet master pulling the strings as he pleases. He can be cruel hence, he will go to extreme lengths to achieve his goal. He loves creating chaos around him and inflicting pain, but why is that? What is his actual goal that makes him go to such lengths? Why does he love causing pain to others so much?

Since the start, even from his own trailer, Vegas has been associated with the colors of green and.green itself is associated with envy and greed therefore, it is safe to assume that he is driven strongly by jealousy. He is envious of Kinn, since he was young he was compared to Kinn by his father and as a result, he developed an inferiority complex. His greatest motive is his jealousy of Kinn, which stems from his desire to please his father. His constant comparison to Κinν by his father gave birth to greed, greed for power and superiority.

Another color that has been associated with Vegas is red. Red can be used to symbolize anger, violence and aggression, things that describe Vegas perfectly. His envy and greed that serve as two of his greatest motives have resulted in him internalizing the anger which he expresses through violence and aggression towards others, but his anger is actually meant to be towards his own father. The one that caused him to feel so many negative emotions. Vegas does not know how to deal with his feelings , he is angry at his father and simultaneously, he craves for his approval. Thereby, he takes his anger out on others, that way he feels pleasure.

Vegas is nothing more than a product of an inferiority complex which his father passed on to him. His father feels inferior and takes out his anger and negative emotions on Vegas. He treats him like that because he sees himself in him , every time he sees Vegas losing to Kinn he is reminded of his own failure to beat his own brother. The reason why Vegas finds pleasure in the pain of others, and mostly when he is the one causing pain, is because at this moment he feels superior. He has an inferiority complex just like his father. He feels unworthy of his father’s approval and every time he gets beaten by him he thinks he deserves it because he thinks of himself as a failure. It is only when he inflicts pain that he feels alive because he feels that he is in control, he feels superior, he feels worthy and powerful. He feeds off fear and desperation and that was perfectly demonstrated during the torture scene of Pete. He wants his victims to suffer both physically and psychologically, the way he does too. However, Pete took that away with his unusual reaction.Vegas both hated and loved it when Pete was fighting back. He liked the challenge of breaking him but at the same time he uses torture as a mean to feel superior. If the victim fights back and tries to turn the game around by giving an unusual reaction, then it takes away everyhting that Vegas wanted to get out of torture. That is to feel in control.

Vegas wants others to submit to him since he is the one submitting to his father. When his father entered the scene the tables turned and Vegas was the one submitting to his father. His father has control over him. However, despite Vegas’ wish to get acceptance from his father, we see that he does not follow his father’s order word by word. Just like Pete does not completely abide completely by the rules of the mansion. For instance, during their conversation we gathered the information that Vegas did not simply keep an eye on Porsche but he had planned to hurt him. Then his father asked him to clean his mess, meaning to kill Pete, an order Vegas once again disobeyed by keeping Pete alive and bringing him with him to the safehouse. In short, even if Vegas is a victim to his father and seeks for his acceptance, he can still make decisions for himself and even dare to go against him.

Continuing with the torture scenes, there is something I want to point out. That is Vegas getting worried over Pete. At first I thought it felt rushed, but after thinking of the series and novel as two separate works it made sense.

The first sign that Vegas stopped enjoying the torture was when he beat Pete with the belt. It was also the second time that fear appeared upon Pete’s face, first being when he threatened him using his grandmother. It makes me wonder, why was Pete scared of getting beaten with a belt when he has endured worse before at the hands of Vegas? Also why did Vegas stop beating him saying it was no fun when he was clearly enjoying his desperation previously when he used his grandmother against him? What changed now for the both of them?

To answer the first question, I think the belt triggered Pete and I think it relates to his trauma caused by his abusive father. It is possible he was beaten with a belt and his trauma took over him during that moment. To answer the second question, I don’t think that Vegas thought Pete was boring for reacting in fear. This is what he wanted to get, and he was pleased the first time he got the reaction he wanted. This time he stopped because Vegas subconsciously is self-projecting himself on Pete. Vegas grew up knowing pain and anger. He treats Pete the way he is treated by his father because that is what he was taught, that is all he knows. But, on the other hand Vegas craves affection thus, he ends up treating Pete the way he wants to be treated. This is why he stopped having fun torturing him and he got worried when Pete passed out.

Now I want to take this chance and talk about his humane side. We have seen and talked about his cruel side, but that is not all that there is to Vegas. If we look beyond his trauma the only thing left will be his inner wounded child. There are clear signs that Vegas is capable of giving love. First of all, Macau seems to be just a child raised as normal as possible considering his background. This is thanks to Vegas and the fact that he protected him from their father and as a result he was further traumatized in the place of his brother. Furthermore, he owns a pet and he actually seems to take care of it properly. Meaning that he indeed is capable of taking care of someone and he indeed has a sensitive side.

By taking care of Macau and owning a pet he satisfies his need for affection. This made me wonder, why of all pets Vegas chose to own a hedgehog? I think he is once again self-projecting and the hedgehog is a symbol of Vegas.Hedgehogs when they are scared, angry or feel in danger they raise their spikes and they point in every direction to protect themselves from predators. The same way Vegas takes out his anger on others and finds pleasure in violence to protect himself from others and mainly from his father. However, when a hedgehog feels calm or safe it can relax its spikes, they lay down flat along the back and sides which means there is no chance of getting poked at this state. Just like when Vegas was finally able to slowly relax around Pete, probably for the first time in a while. He was standing there all vulnerable, sharing his trauma and being completely honest for the first time.

All in all, Vegas is the opposite of Pete who hides the trauma within him behind a smile. Vegas hides his trauma by putting on an evil mask.He lets his trauma consume him, unlike Pete who tries to separate himself from it. They are truly two sides of the same coin.

Okay since I am too obsessed with VP and I think they are very interesting \ I ended up writing an analysis on them. Plus, they live rent free on my mind so why not?

Vegas and Pete are two sides of the same coin. They are both in similar situations but they face them differently. I will proceed to further analyze their characters and their relationship with each other based on what we have seen so far up to episode 11 and the preview of ep 12
First, let’s take a look at their personalities and characters separately.

I will start with Pete. The first time we are introduced to Pete as an audience is when Porsche enters their room and he sees Pete butt naked , disconnected from his surroundings working out. He then proceeds to smile and introduces himself. After that, they start eating and we get the information that they are not allowed to eat in their rooms since there is a cafeteria that serves them food. However, Pete breaks that rule by eating the food his grandmother sent him. It is a simple rule and it does not really hurt anyone by breaking it, everyone breaks a rule or two, but what we can gather from that is that behind closed curtains Pete does not completely abide by the rules. Then he begins giving information about the three brothers of the main family saying that out of all the three brothers Tankhun is the craziest one while Kinn is the most normal. At first glance, this seems like a joke but if we start thinking about it there is some truth in it. I have said before that out of all the brothers Kinn is not the most fitting one to be a mafia boss. Living a normal life suits him more and it seems it is something he wishes for himself as well.

So what do we gather from this? Pete at first is introduced as a smiley, happy, welcoming and funny character. But we also gather that he knows how to judge a character and that he is capable of breaking a rule or two, those traits are easily overlooked cause the purpose of his scene is to be funny and provide us with information but those traits are still there. From that scene we can reach the conclusion that his room is the only place he can be himself, it feels like his safe zone where he is allowed to be more relaxed. During duty he has to maintain a certain image.

Next scene we see him in the same episode is in the cafeteria with Porsche. Porsche keeps complaining about the life in the mansion and the food in the cafeteria meanwhile Pete continues to maintain his smile and tells Porsche to stop complaining. We saw Pete a few scenes before breaking the cafeteria rule and now he asks Porsche to abide by the rules. Pete knows his place , he knows how to fit in and adapt. He is not going to make a scene or complain about anything in front of others, but behind closed doors he will let a part of his true self reveal itself. That is a trait that applies to most of us, our behavior is in accordance with the environment we are in.

During the scene of Tankhun’s punishment towards Porsche in the pool Pete is the only one to voice his thoughts and say that Porsche had enough punishment. That is the first time we see him go out of his way as a bodyguard and say something ā€˜ā€™unnecessary’’ , since Pete usually knows his place and chooses his word carefully but he is also brave enough and true to himself to let some of his thoughts out. It is worthy to mention here another scene of ep 5. There is a scene in which he gives advice to Kinn concerning his relationship with Porsche. Before he gives his advice he says ā€˜ā€™ I may be out of line…’’, once again it is demonstrated that he knows his place, he chooses his word carefully but he is perceptive and brave enough to voice his thoughts. Continuing from where we left off in ep 2 ,later he gives advice to Porsche and once again mentions that the whole family is absurd to which Porsche responds that Pete is weird as well. Porsche pointed out that characteristic trait as a joke but the more you notice Pete the more sense that remark of Porsche’s makes.

In the scene where Porsche is passed out because Kinn punished him for hurting Macau we see Pete really serious for the first time as he explains the situation to porsche. He analyzes the situation and lets Porsche know that what Kinn did was to save him. He points out that it could have been easier to kill him but chose to punish him. Now we see that Pete knows how to read a situation and see the big picture by analyzing it.

In ep 3 we got the famous line’’ I grew up to find that there are no heroes nor villains in this world.’’This line really caught my interest because it sums up some traits of Pete really well in just one sentence. Taking into consideration the nature of his job he has come across complicated situations in which it is not easy to point fingers and name someone just as a villain or a hero.In their world there is no black and white, there is gray. Humans are complicated and they are driven by many different emotions , motivations and goals mixed together. As he seems to be observant and able to see the big picture he is able to show understanding towards others. The context he said this line in is that Pete tried to comfort Porsche. They had to deal with a traitor, Porsche said that he might have his reasons for acting that way to which Pete responded with his famous line. His point is that everyone has a reason for their actions, that does not mean they have to leave aside their responsibilities, everyone has a role to fulfill and they have to follow that role till the end. He also mentioned that what they were doing was teaching him a lesson.Pete recognizes the fact that actions in this world come with consequences and this was the consequence of that traitor’s actions.Pete can separate duty from understanding someone’s actions which allows him to to look at things more objectively. In the world of crime people kill and hurt each other day by day, everyone has their reasons but he knows that if he takes things too personally he might end up losing his mind. His objective is to fulfill his duty as a bodyguard. That is his top priority and what matters. If he is expected to kill he will do it and if the day that his life might come to an end comes he will accept it since he knows the consequences that come with leading this kind of life.

All of this shows his trait of adapting and fitting well into the environment he finds himself in. It also shows how he doesn't focus on one part of the situation but looks beyond it and sees the overall view. This trait of him is also evident when he talks about his story of his abusive dad. He did not blame himself, he realized the problem lied within his father and he was just an outlet for his father’s anger.

Another scene that fascinates me is the scene in ep 7 where Vegas is torturing a guy so they can get information. While everyone looks away, Pete keeps a straight face, he seems unfazed by the view while everyone seems clearly disturbed by just a glimpse of it. Now why is that? Is it because he is interested in Vegas? in torture maybe? Or maybe he is once again fulfilling his duty as a bodyguard? He was ordered by Kinn to keep a close eye on Vegas. As mentioned before, Pete is observant and he can read a situation well. What he was trying to do was to study Vegas. During that moment he was trying to psych him out.

Pete could feel that there is something terrifying about Vegas.Even if Pete finds Vegas scary there is some attraction from his part. The first hint was in ep 2 when Vegas was formally introduced to us. Porsche commented that Vegas smiled at Pete and Pete seemed to get flustered.I think Pete is drawn to that mysterious aura of Vegas, he is drawn to the unknown, maybe because Vegas is harder to study than everyone else around Pete. However, what will make Pete eventually more attracted to Vegas is how he is his opposite of him and he will feel complete with him.But I will talk about that later.

Now I wanna talk about Pete’s smile.’’My aim is to spread more smiles than tears’.
Pete seems to be a smiley person in general since he has a happy face most of the time. But are his smiles genuine? They are not purely genuine but not completely fake either. When he is around others he smiles because he does have fun, but he smiles because that is all he can do to hide the darkness inside him. And when I say darkness, I don’t mean it in a bad sense, he does not have any malicious intentions. It is quite the opposite actually. He always seems so positive and optimistic, rarely complaining about anything. He is so accepting of the reality around him that all he can do is smile. His smile is the way he has to protect himself from the cruel reality that surrounds him. He does not want to get completely swallowed by the crime world and lose his sanity. Behind his smile lies his effort to protect himself and others. There is pain behind that smile that he does not want to let out. It is his way of disconnecting himself from the world so that he can continue fitting in. It's His way to disconnect himself from the pain.

At this point it is worth mentioning his duty smile. Every time he was caught by Vegas, since he had to keep an eye on him, he would put his duty smile on. That smile was absolutely fake in contrast to his other smiles that had at least an ounce of truth. It was painfully obvious how fake it was that even Vegas enjoyed messing with him. Then when he got caught by Vegas and was tortured, Pete once again was smiling. This time we got another kind of smile. It was not the kind of smile to show that he is okay, it was not the kind of smile that someone makes out of obligation, it was the kind of smile that shows strength and expresses mockery. He was pleased to have ruined Vegas’ plans and even if he was caught he was not going to let him feel the pleasure of submitting to him. Even if he seemed the one at the disadvantage he wanted to have the last laugh. In conclusion, Pete shows a different kind of smile according to the situation he finds himself in. In other words, smiling is Pete’s coping mechanism and an exterior he created to separate himself from trauma. It's his way of confronting all the circumstances that present themselves in front of him.

To sum up, Pete at first glance appears to be funny, happy and smiley, gullible even, but in reality he is much more than what he lets on.He is a good judge of character,he is wise and curious about his surroundings since he seems to like studying others. He is also cautious when it comes to his words and what parts of himself he allows to show. The problem is that he keeps inside all of his feelings that might make him explode one day. In reality, he is not as optimistic as he shows, he is trying his best to be. That is what his smile is there for.
