I feel the series Vegas is more immature than the novel Vegas, in the series he seems more impulsive, more reckless,…
I actually wrote a huge comment some hours ago about Vegas and Pete. I felt their story is kinda rushed during the middle of the ep and I explained why I felt so and I wonder if others feel the same as me.
I love how they gave Vegas a pet hedgehog and he actually takes care of it. It shows that beneath that psycho there is a human side too. As Pete said ''there are no heroes or villains''.
I just finished the episode and I am trying to arrange my thoughts once again. Since this episode was mostly about VegasPete ( it was about time) I will mostly talk about them/
First of all, finally the long awaited episode is here. After weeks of waiting we got our VegasPete arc, am I excited? Yes, I am, however my fears seem to be turning into a reality. They rushed VegasPete. I have been voicing my concerns about the execution of their arc countelss times. Now, don't get me wrong, I am still excited to see more of them but some of the charm was taken away.It was taken away slowly every week when we used to wait for VegasPete only to get nothing.All of us that read the novel knew how complicated their story is and that is why we pointed time and time again that it needs proper handling.
Now , let's start from the beginning. The series showed us before how ruthless and heartless Vegas is. That is the point that they wanted to get across in episode 10 and they succedded. Even if Vegas lacks love and craves for it he still won't let anyone come close to the point of accepting their love. What he craves the most is his father acceptance and he will use any means to gain it. He is a product of the cruel environment he was raised. Even if the environment is to blame about thry way he ended up he is still responsible for his actions.
Now, the show did a good job at showing us how fucked up Vegas is. He finds enjoyment in the pain of others, especially if the is the one inflicting it. He tried many things to break Pete and it finally worked when he used his grandmother against him. He finally got a reaction out of him. Messing with Pete is a challenge annd that kind of challenge brings more enjoyment to Vegas. In the seris he even gave false hope to Pete than he can escape only to capure him again. He enjoys messing with him in any possible way he can think of .That is why he decided to Keep Pete around until he was satisfied. To enjoy himself. Until this point their story makes sense but from there it starts to get a bit rushed.
In the novel Vegas hated when Pete was putting up a fight. He is extremely sadistic and he loves it when someone submits to his power.Pete started going with the flow in the novel in hopes that he would avoid getting punished and it worked. That is how they slowly started bonding. Pete would mostly listen to Vegas and that allowed Vegas to show his vulnerable side later into the story. Key word here is ''later''. Pete went through a lot of pain and torture first before Vegas could show another side of him to Pete. A very important scene from the novel was changed in the series, it was the turning point to their relationshio. It was the slap scene that made Vegas go through a mental breakdown in front of Pete. Pete at that time showed concern towards Vegas whcih caught Vegas off guard and made him realize what kind of person Pete is.
This scene was changed in the series and it made things seem rushed. During this scene Pete had fainted so we got no reaction from him on Vegas' mental breakdown. We got Vegas getting worried instead which felt forced and rushed. Up until now they tried to convinved us that Vegas is a rutheless manipulator and a heartless bastard in front of his enemies. So what made him show concern towards Pete? In the novel he slowly developed feelings because of Pete's behaviour towards him but in the series Pete did not have a chance to showcase any good-intended behavior towards Vegas. We could argue that Pete had piques Vegas' interest beforehand and especially during the torture because of his unsual reaction, but it does not make sense for him to get concerned. He was seeing him mostly as a toy he wanted to break. They exclued and changed so many of their scenes , they literally are skipping over the early stages of their relationship which are what make this story unique in the first place. They did it to save time of course, cause how can they fit their whole story only in four eps? And this is why I wanted their arc to start in the middle of the series and not near the end.
Secondly, it felt weird for Pete and Vegas to open up to each other that easily and quick. Pete might have shared his backstory to win some empathy from Vegas so he could avoid punishment ( the same thing he did in the novel) but Vegas sharing his story felt rushed. In other words, WE WERE ROBBED.
I would love to hear the thoughts of others VP stans, is it only me who feels that way?
Now, let me talk about the other parts of the episodes.
I ADORE TANKHUN! Him and Chay getting along made my day, he really saw Chay and decided to immediately adopt him, I love him. I felt sorry for Chay when he found out the truth about Kim. The way he learnt it was just so simple which made it even more cruel. I loved his expression during that moment Barcode did an excellent job at showing heartbreak and shock at the same time. His confrontation with Kim was something that I had been waiting for, but I am disappointed we did not get Chay punching Kim. Chay is a honest kid so he showed his sadness in front of Kim even tho I wish he had not. Kim continues to have that blank face of him around Chay and it makes me even more eager to punch him. I wish Chay will do tha next time instead of crying.
Now, about KinnPorsche , well I have not much to say, they were just living their love during this episode and I am glad for them.
Last but not least, I wanna say PROPS TO BOTH BIBLE AND BUILD FOR THEIR AMAZING PERFOMANCE AS VEGAS AND PETE. They really stole the show today with their portrayal and chemistry.
