Yes, they have been establishing a foundation for their relationship by dropping hints since the beginning so the hedgehog is there for a reason. The hedgehog can be used to show Vegas' character development. For now he keeps it caged and in the dark of his secret room. When he will fall in love with Pete he might put it out of his cage as asymbol of letting pete go and then he can put it in a more comfortable space for it to have more freedom. He will learn how to take care of others around him because of his love for Pete.

True! What if he Vegas lets the hedgehog out of its cage as a symbol of him letting Pete go? Also I might be looking too much into it, but I am very interested in the details so I looked up a bit of info concerning the symbolisms behind hedgehogs.
In dreams, if you meet a hedgehog it means you will make a new acquaintance who will be honest and loyal. In the series, and especially the novel ,those two words are strongly connected to Pete. He always stays true to himself and loyal to the people around him.

In ep 7 during the torture scene he was the only one not to look away, he seemed really interested to see what Vegas was doing, which indicated his curiosity. Now that he got caught by Vegas he is adapting to the environment around him as he aleays does. He was prepared from the start that there might be a chance he might get caught. He goes with the flow and instead of surrending to Vegas' game he plays along by not giving him the satisfaction of breaking down in front of him, so he chooses to smile while he is being tortured. In the upcoming episodes he will show patience towards Vegas and his actions is an attempt for him to survive.
