He's an amazing character to love to hate, though. I highly appreciate him - and his mistress LOL.
It's going to get a lot darker before it gets back to the present, after all, the flashback ends with WWX's death (the opening scene of the drama). All the school days' fluff was meant to cushion the fall, LOL. But there are still going to be some great moments, too, to balance it. Just be prepared for most anything that could go wrong, to go wrong.
He's an amazing character to love to hate, though. I highly appreciate him - and his mistress LOL.
33 is where they go back to the present. Til then it's going to be the history of why WWX became a pariah, what happened to Wen Ning and why does Jiang Cheng now hate anything related to WWX.
If you're past 14th, all hell's about to break loose.
So I had the bright idea to start this on the Halloween midnight hour LOL. Creepy but not really scary (yet).
Points in its favour so far: pretty tight plot in the first ep, let's see how it develops. I like how cheeky Thup is, LOL. And I really like the light almond-tinted eye lens. The music is good too, including the BGM - highly approved!
Points I still have doubts about: not much, really, yet. Except for the sudden forced cohabitation trope, LOL.
Anyway - ohmagerd is THAT the abandoned mall where ATEEZ filmed HALAZIA?? Because it looks a lot like it. Do they have a lot of abandoned malls in Thailand to use as film / music videos backgrounds, LOL?
PS Thai BLs should take (only) one page from NF's book and drop all seasons at once. Thirteen weeks of this will be painful.
Also, this is a love story told in small touches and charged glances, between an unaware shameless tease and a very serious man who falls once and forever (even after death.)
- at the beginning of the drama, is she already reincarnated or it didn't happen yet?And what happens to the whole…
That's extremely clear and helpful, thank you a lot!!
Oh, so her brother is still alive? She said (in that first half ep I had time for) her father and older brother died and her family fell from grace. Maybe she had more brothers).
- at the beginning of the drama, is she already reincarnated or it didn't happen yet?And what happens to the whole…
Thank you!
I haven't read the novel either, sorry. So when the drama timeline starts, according to the novel, would she be in her first or her second life? (What I want to know is if she already knows how things unfold in the future or not).
And if they were defeated that means they died... does it? (That's so sad, they seem to be a bunch of cute brotherly fellas).
Questions for the novel readers -ETA So my questions are answered, and it looks good AND I like the FL a lot (that…
- at the beginning of the drama, is she already reincarnated or it didn't happen yet?
And what happens to the whole bunch of Wei brothers? Are they all going to die soon? (I saw them all as guest roles).
Trying to decide if I want to watch this, I only had time for half of the first ep and it looks good so far, but I'd like to know where it's at, in time.
ETA So my questions are answered, and it looks good AND I like the FL a lot (that sword dance was mesmerising). Ding YuXi isn't bad at all either, LOL. I guess this one goes on the PTW list.
TBH, I might just not like the FL (or the character). But I liked the heroic parts (even when they were kind of…
This is my fourth WYL drama and in all of them she seems to be acting almost the same - wide-eyed telegraphed emotions, not much actual feeling into it (or not that I can see), all three roles kind of ditzy damsels (I'm counting IAN as two dramas). Though in IAN she was supposed to be like that. In this one and the other (When Destiny Brings the Demon - that I haven't finished yet despite liking the ML a lot, too), she's just ditzy, clumsy, yell-ish (is that a word?), not-quite-there acting.
It sure didn't help that the time-travelling romance didn't quite mesh with the palace/revenge drama. Or that Li YunRui didn't seem to have a lot to do except fawn over her. I mean, usually in these kind of dramas, the support cast give it some weight, but instead we spent a lot of time on romcom and not enough time of any consequence with the villains. What was the need for so much time and scenes wasted on Yu Lun and when it needed details, suddenly they're flashbacks to him being already caught - and tied up in a clownish manner - and spilling out his master's most important secrets. Which, BTW, how did he even know where the secret documents were?! And they were particularly important to solving the rebellion basically in a minute.
So yeah, that was clumsily done.
The OP promised a lot of action, and it happened, but also, it pretty much never had any real consequences. Like, she sew his wound up - AWAKE - with not much prep, and after he had lost so much blood etc, and nary a fever?! Like, this IS a thousand years back right? There still are NO antibiotics, right? That ~sterilisation~ thing she did was basically a joke. At least pretend he's actually hurt, dammit. And then some days later he's back to being up and about and fighting off dozens of trained soldiers.
So I guess this was supposed to be just romcom. With some heroics so that the ML also looked good.
Oh well. It was nice while it lasted.
Best male character: Big Bro with his inferiority complex. That man knew his limits and braved them anyway.
Best female character: the Princess. That woman knew what she wanted and went about to get it. Props to her.
This is kind of forgettable, but it did help pass the time.
Pei Fei married into the Shen clan (I think the Princess too was part of it). I guess Pei Fei was a lot more pragmatic…
Dunno. I thought they might make cameos in the future timeline, but I guess that didn't happen. Maybe they were there before the family went back in time, but I'm not interested enough to go and check.
TBH, I might just not like the FL (or the character). But I liked the heroic parts (even when they were kind of silly) and didn't like the romance.
The best chara - for me - is the brother. He seems to grow the most (while not changing all that much). The way the switchback happened kind of muted my enjoyment of the whole drama, also. But I was entertained, and that matters, a bit.
There’s one thing I don’t understand....Their ancestor is Pei Fei, but what about Ms. Shen? is it shen jing…
Pei Fei married into the Shen clan (I think the Princess too was part of it). I guess Pei Fei was a lot more pragmatic and married for kids instead of love, LOL so probably not to the princess.
Lin Yan's wife is Lady Shen (but that's ambiguous since there's no first name), and the grandad liked talking about Lin Yan instead of Pei Fei so those details didn't matter in the end.
I only had ten minutes to spare, LOL, Tantai Jin is SO back! Up to and including hairdo, AND that building off which the first crow attack happened (this time it was wine fishes).
If only they had given him some music lessons on the way back, LOL.
This will definitely go on the watch list as soon as I can get more than a few minutes at a time to use...
I thought it was kind of silly that the president of a cybersecurity and technology company would have "close2u"…
Yeah, I also think the Chinese opera eps were the best part of the police cases, the guest cast were amazing and totally convinced me (I felt so bad about both main guest charas, neither deserved what happened), and the actual parallels were chilling - when Shen Yi was painting his face I was kind of certain he had gone off the rails to see what's on the unhinged side of his consciousness. (Not to mention it seemed to me he was a bit too interested into looking into the abyss, even in the first season - always taking chances, always making it a bit dangerous... because he wanted to SEE. I love those teaching moments where he explains the tableaus - it's an insight to the way his mind works.)
I don't think Shen Yi ever was on Fang's side, I totally think he was pretending from the very beginning, because he saw something of himself in Fang and "invented" an almost transparent mask of himself to play along with Fang. That's why the seducing/luring him to the other side seemed possible throughout the series, because he was pretending but at the same time sincere about it.
WHY would he had told Du Cheng earlier? Have you seen Du Cheng's poker face yet? Neither have I, LOL. Fang was too smart (and kind of powerful) for Du Cheng to deal with, and so Shen Yi needed to have him SEE Shen Yi going over to the enemy's side and REACT honestly to it. I promise you Fang was always aware of Du Cheng's reactions every time Shen Yi was around, and Shen Yi used that to mislead and distract him.
Shen Yi is quite smart, though he got paired with Du Cheng who's a lot more of a hands-on kind of type, so this second season used a lot of its time to show Shen Yi's possible roads not taken, LOL. Pretty anxiety-giving for me throughout the series.
And then they slap that ending on it!!!! I STILL think it's all in Shen Yi's imagination, that dark road's SY compared to the nice road's SY but not in actual reality. Or so I hope. Or we're going to see a third season. (Not that I'd say no to that, LOL).
It comes to me I haven't yet watched him in a costume drama either, LOL (mostly because I either don't like the FL, or that he's main cast but not the ML and I don't like the ML either, or something. Or too many good costume dramas, too little time.)
This is so cute! I already quite like Hatano, and finally a BL character reacts normally to a sudden strange proposal, LOL - go, Saku! But my favourite is Hotaru :)
I thought it was kind of silly that the president of a cybersecurity and technology company would have "close2u"…
Tan JianCi (Shen Yi) is appreciated in costume dramas LOL. He's good in modern dramas too, anyway, so it doesn't matter. I'll be a bit of a fangirl here and admit I like how small he is, LOL. Whenever he comes up against taller or bigger guys, he has to pull the focus on himself, I guess he does it in dramas, too, when needed.
Jin ShiJia, on the other hand, IS way taller and bigger. He doesn't really fit the esthetics of nowadays' costume dramas (maybe he was too young for NiF-like casting, 'cause those guys knew how to pick'em.) So probably that's why he gets to play big, tall guys - police officers a lot of times, too.
If your crime thriller itch isn't completely scratched after UtS2, maybe have a look at Be Reborn or The Embers - those are good, IMHO. And pretty thrilling, too, LOL.
Psycho WWX, wait for it, it's worth it :D
....But the whole world will also change for all of them T_T

When it's over you'll ask for more. Just give it a try.
I am used to deaths of lovely characters, I've watched the Wonderland of Love massacre (and cried buckets too, LOL).
