Oh you are ok with spoilers!
One thing that you are going to continue to see is the how age affects women and how society treats them, what it expects of them and how they themselves react to all of this. It makes sense as one of the central issue is a jiejie romance but after 7 episodes I think they are using that to address certain things too.
So far we have FL's younger sister in college, FL and her friend and then ML's mother as three generations of women. There's actually a lot of carefully hidden overlap in their stories. The drama is very funny sometimes but underneath that there is a lot happening.
I don't mince words even if XZ is my fave and don't hesitate to say if I don't like something. The cheating ML 2 will be redeemed and that's not my preference but that's what usually happens in a lot of Asian dramas as you know yourself. Even with that I think they are delving into the why of it way more than I have seen before. Conversations that the FL had with him were really good.
Overall, I think the plot surrounding the FL is more nuanced and meaty while the ML is dealing with his own issues that may appear less problematic but are age appropriate. Which is the very core of this drama -age and what comes with it and how they reconcile their very different stages of life. I do hope you end up liking it.
While that scene has a funny surface, it is actually so well placed within the drama itself. It isn't that her husband or Sheng Yang don't love her but how they treat her is a different matter.
That whole plot, revolving around the dress, ties into what this drama has been pulling as the main theme which is age, and then specifically women and age. With Sheng Yang's father it ties into the topic of marriage and how, even though he very obviously loves her, her husband misses some things in terms of how he treats her (the dress, the dishes). And Sheng Yang, though he also loves her, as her child, also misses some things about her.
Her colleague who gifts her the hand cream pulls that string. She is in her 50s but the desire to feel and be beautiful doesn't go away just because we pass some arbitrary age number. She should take care of herself. Yes, it's all right to buy pretty clothes just because they make her feel good, etc. Her age doesn't negate all these things. Of course all of it connects to the FL and her struggles, present and future.
I love how the scene is funny and yet, it actually really isn't when you think about the underlying theme and issues. It was really well written.
Just finished ep 1 - it’s slow and tropey. ML’s mother and boss as well as FL’s husband are so cliched.…
I don't think either the mother or ML 2 are clichéd.
The mother may want him to get married but that's simply how it is in China. I was watching the scene in the shop and my own mother's face was superimposed on hers I swear. But other than that she is a fantastic character who actually serves a purpose beyond comedy. She is one of the women in this drama that has passed the youthful age she herself mentions, which is 30 and represents the generation beyond that of the FL. We see layered treatments of women here which connects to the FL herself. Who ever here said this drama isn't deep, isn't thinking themselves.
The same goes for the husband. He is a cliche in that he cheats but that's about it. Both the FL's handling of the situation and the actual analysis of why he is doing that is painfully realistic. It's probably the most honest depiction of why men do this. The same goes for the state of their marriage and how they got there.
You may not like the topics themselves but the way they are handled here is miles beyond a typical drama. It's a drama for adults where we can already see easily the central topic for the FL and that is her gender and age and what that means and more importantly, what it should mean in terms of how both society treats her, her closest and above all, how she treats herself. I highly recommend you go on, there is layered and good writing here.
The rating is always low on a XZ drama in MDL. Don't be surprised. It's expected. This is not a rom-com, IMHO,…
I am not commenting on the rest, your opinion is your own naturally but when it comes to CCTV no such rules exist.
It does have some extra rules but those pertain to topics depicted. Things that pass on the web that couldn't be shown on TV or tighter rules in terms of what is seen as socially positive (that's a big one), skinship etc.

I have no idea where you got the idea that because this airs on CCTV it has to give screen time to "mature" actors but it is absolutely not true. Those are not any kind of "rules" for CCTV.
They need to wash his character in order to pair him up later. They started with him being a serial cheater so…
Yes, she is. It was spoiled a long time ago in China that the ex ends up being really good friends with the FL after the divorce and then pairs up with her friend, Shanshan. They are even on official posters.
In general, his character is actually pretty realistically written in the first five episodes and the actor did a really good job. But that type of man never changes. I wish they would simply leave him as he is, short hook ups with younger women until he is alone and old.
Epd 1-5 was good, epd 6 nd 7 was boring, why the ex husband has more screen time then the leads, and they keep…
They need to wash his character in order to pair him up later. They started with him being a serial cheater so it is a bit awkward. I just personally don't care about that at all.
Last third of episode 7 was good for me though. Sheng Yang and his family (happy wife, happy life, okaaay? He was so cute!) and then it looks like we are finally back to the office. That's promising for more leads interaction, not to mention Sheng Yang actually getting more story.
it's a slice of life drama, it will show a lot of other people too.
It sure wasn't announced as a slice of life drama and nobody expects that in China, nor thinks that it is. Looking up, even here that's not what the tags are.
It was very clearly announced as a work place related and then romance related drama. If they are selling something else now, that's a different matter.
Well the ex husband is not that appealing to see all the time but he contributes to telling the female leads story...and…
They can tell the female lead story through her and Sheng Yang.
Bluntly put, I am here for Sheng Yang and then him and Jian Bing. I am not here to waste two episodes on the others. I am speeding through 7 now as well because exact same issue. If you like group portraits that's great. I don't. I want the main lead, which is XZ and then the two of them to be the focus. Not this 🤷
Way too much focus on the ex-husband in episode 6. I am not sure I understand these writing choices. I think I double sped through two thirds of the episode. Police drama over irrelevant people. Not remotely enough of Sheng Yang.
It's surprisingly serious. I have finally finished the fifth episode and the screenwriter, so far, has done an amazing job. The comedy is perfect to lighten up what is actually a serious drama.
Her struggles, according to her age, are quite heavy and the way they are covering a marriage falling apart is hurting me because it's real. She is a mature woman and she is about to put aside ten years of her life but damn if I wasn't cheering for her the whole time. I am so glad they are showing a woman who is unafraid to take that step in self-care and self-respect.
Not to say his work issues aren't a genuine problem but they are fitting his age, where he is still a relative beginner and doesn't have enough power to deal with that. A lot of us had to take it from bosses like this and we could do nothing but bend our heads and wait. It will be good to see how they mash their lives together with the age difference, something the show is constantly keeping in front of us, and the difference of experiences that shaped them.
Both of them are acting the roof off the house! Finally for me a balanced pairing for Xiao Zhan in acting. Give me more please!! Btw their chemistry is 🤌🤌🤌

No, that's not what this is supposed to be.
It was very clearly announced as a work place related and then romance related drama. If they are selling something else now, that's a different matter.
Too little time in this life to waste on things I don't care about.
This is a work place drama with added romance, with clear leads.

From tomorrow, two every day from 19:30 on CCTV so platforms will sync to that.
Women also have it harder in the workplace so hopefully they will talk about this in the future too.
Just because something or someone is best for us, doesn't mean the rest is awful. I loved Li Qin in WDB but I like BBH more.
It's ok if you think someone else was the best FL for him. Nobody is wrong here, it's just opinions on who we think fits most or is best actress.
