It's no problem. Melon is Chinese slang for gossip and rumors. So when we say "eating melons" we are reading or listening about gossip (who is dating who, who broke up to some serious topics) or reading rumors about who is an actor in some show, when a show will air, rumors about endorsements and similar. Like here, it's rumors about a show getting the broadcast license. It's all melons.

About the dubbing in the drama, I know some here didn't like Ren Min's and hoped for her own voice - it seems unlikely. The current talk is that the show chose to go with the dubbing and she agreed. I am not too thrilled myself but it seems a done deal.

XZ is actually original sound plus dubbing in places.

Google the director of the show. That one comes from Hong Kong school and is well known for this.

People who plan to watch the drama make a reservation on TC. You can see how many, we are about to hit 3 million for this one. Currently that is the drama with the highest number of reservations. I don't know if you can see it from this side tbh. But I think some people on twitter who have access to China sometimes acreencap it.

I am not surprised. It's actually mild compared to what is going on in China. It's really getting insane and we don't even have a date 😭

AvenueX hates Xiao Zhan because she feels he is a huge danger to her precious darling. She is well known on Weibo and was an active part of everything that happened way back then.

Chinese fan circles function a certain way. If you are ignorant of them, that doesn't mean the rest of us are the same. Antis have had several lines of attack on TLP. Some happened right after the first trailer, some in-between. Things always spill over from China onto the international side .

The attack that it is just another JoF happened right after that first trailer and YouTube comments are full of them. That is currently the only thing that is spilling over and it has re-emerged now that the second one is out. It's also easy to see that it is organised because they are always "reminded" only of JoF. Funny how no other of dozen master/apprentice stories comes to mind, some who have more in common with TLP, but it's always JoF. And it is always JoF because it's a coordinated attack.

Nobody is overreacting, some of us just spend way more time on Chinese socials and can easily see spill over patterns. There is no reason not to warn people here about what is happening. And if this show goes well, it will only get worse.

I mean if they insist on it, this show has more in common with Journey to the West. Funny how they never compare it to that, or any other master/disciple shows but they all focus on comparing it to just this one. What a coincidence 🙄

All the comparisons to JoF?

One of the main lines of anti attack on YGY. They are trying to use it to say that the drama is not worth watching or in worse cases, that it copied JoF (even though Zhu Yan the book is older but they count on people not knowing).

This swarm of accusations happened when the first trailer aired in both China and outside. You can see it in the YT comments. And look below now. So just same old, same old. People being afraid this show might be a hit and trying to bring it down.

The new trailer really blew up. The reservations for the show went up by half a million, up to 2.59 mil which is incredible . I actually didn't expect it would have such an effect even though I was optimistic. Tbh, nobody expected this. Hopefully this means a summer vacation file for sure which is the best possible for a drama of this type (in essence, by July 5th everyone is on vacation but expect very late July, realistically August because it is yet to be submitted for the final trial).

Of course, antis have gone crazy and have been dancing since yesterday (some of the stuff was really funny). While this is good because it's always an indication of excellence, keep in mind things like this tend to spill from China onto MDL too. So don't be surprised.
