After 11 ep I can say it's not bad - but you have to treat it completely separate from the donghua/LN. I guess if they tried to follow closely source material they would have to make a lot more episodes since 40 is just the first season. They changed a lot of Tang San's backstory and abilities (for example in donghua Tang San enters Shrek when he's 12 - in drama they made him around 17) and I'm curious how it will play out in the next episodes. What's confusing me the most is Hu Lie Na - she appears so early in the drama (in donghua it's around episode 70) - I was expecting Ning Rong Rong...

I can't say I care about ratings. I tend to rate the shows after I finish them, but sometimes I give my ratings early and I rarely change it. Also I don't usually rate plots or actors. Something might be super-cliche and still be funny, something might be very emotional and seem very boring to me. So what I rate is enjoyment rather than each element that makes drama "work". And since I know everybody has their own system of values I decided to give a shot any drama that will interest me with its description :)

I was scared that the adaptation will disappoint me, but I really enjoyed it. Things I like to point out are: 1) there might be more than one movie if they get the budget (especially if it does really good financially) 2) I didn't expect them to adapt the 116 long chapters into two hours (and I'm glad they didn't - imagine how rushed the pace would be!) 3) some of the characters that were removed might be introduced later (introducing Scar would add at least another 1-2 hours to the movie) . As a fan of FMA I would say they did pretty good job adapting this manga - mostly because it has insane number of subplots, very complex characters and lots and lots of talking... If they stayed true to the manga we wouldn't get past first 3 -4 chapters ;) Cast imho did great - they could color Winry's hair though ;)

All of the above and:
1) Running, running and running - I get it - sometimes it's faster, but when the MC runs for good 15 min of the episode through the city it could be better to take a taxi or public transport
2) Awkward couple behaviour (fish kisses, bullying the person you like included) - it's cute when the leads are 15, but gets weird when they are 30ish
3) When strong female lead suddenly becomes dependent crybaby - and I don't mind the latter, but I love strong leads and I hate it when the scriptwriters change them to fit the story

Spot on article - should be recommended to all those ppl that start wars on ratings or write reviews such as:" if you gave this show a 10 you must be dumb etc" - honestly I never pay much attention to how the show is rated before I start watching and after I just rate my enjoyment (did I got hooked and binge it? did I wait impatiently for another episode? did I decide that extra hour of sleep was not necessary? or maybe the other way - was it difficult to continue? did the plothole get too big? were the actors annoying me? etc). Anyway, now I understand those ppl just a little bit ;)

I was waiting for Bleach since they announced it ca. 2015 :D Very excited to see My Little Monster and Mob Psycho 100%, Funouhan and Kasane sound interesting too. Also plan to see Princess Jellyfish and find out how Kuranosuke will be portrayed 'cause performance of Suda Masaki will be hard to top ;)

I wouldn't get mad at the ratings :) each and every person has their own rating system - I rate my enjoyment of the drama and not the story/acting/music etc From the above I watched only Strong Woman and I loved it - as a completely absurd yet funny drama. Sure the story was lacking, but it was interesting enough to make me watch it to the end. Agree with the Bride of Habaek - for me it was a snooze fest for about half the show - I managed to finish it hoping the action would pick up... and it never did. Also I try really really hard to not watch ongoing shows, but somehow I always end up with one or two on my list :)

Great article! Some websites to watch J-Dramas are Kissasian, Dramanice and Dramacool
Love dramanice for full episodes and it's my go to site to watch dramas (all of them - j,k,c) - other site to watch is gooddrama, and even though the episodes are in parts the site has many dramas I couldn't find anywhere else (especially older ones) :)

In my opinion good-quality subs leave all the important honorifics and words in native language (either Korean or Japanese) - some explanations are in order of course, but can be done in the first episode the word appear - I don't need a word "nakama" or "sensei" or "unnie" explained over and over. It doesn't mean I like literal translation, because it often has no sense at all - all the idioms, phrases, slang, puns are lost. I like it better if subber try to find a similar English phrase but add an explanation why it can't be translated directly to other languages (this situation often appears when somebody try to translate dajare). Literal translation is impossible anyway - if you try translating exactly as it is said you'll create a monster since all the languages have their own syntax and sometimes you need to twist and reorganize the sentence so it sounds good.
