No it's not, it's pronounced as Seon & romanizing it as Sun makes very little sense, beyond convention. Actually I've noticed Koreans themselves routinely bite the "y" off, when speaking very fast. Song Hye Kyo's name is really a chore even for them, the first ㅖis often simplified :-)

Also Koreans are so bad at English pronunciation typically, that minor compromises like this shouldn't offend them, no? (Don't even get me started with the Hangul spelling of English words..)

I did not claim they were interchangeable, it's just that English speakers fumbling around with 혜 is not necessarily better than just settling for 해.
The romanization of Korean names is a random mess anyway. Using "Sun" for 선 is not all that fantastic to begin with.

It's not that clear actually. Native English speakers trying to say "Hye" might be worse than just sticking to the other one. (This situation is the definition of a tossup really.)

I don't know if you are talking about people watching Asian dramas, or Asian people watching dramas, but if it's the latter I think Asian people would tolerate this drama a lot more than typical western audiences.
