the platforms are concentrating on getting more subscribers and making money, it's why fast track is an option for essentially all reasonable size dramas. They've been experimenting with the non vip schedule to maximise people's chances to subscribe too. Tencent usually vip dramas about a day after, but it varies, I watched Imperial coroner get vip BEFORE it ended for non-vip. iqiyi's used to be 2 weeks, but this year they keep viping early. Lately (last 3 months) they've been viping a day after too, so all the view counts got slashed too.

They've also been more into producing dramas, they did it before, but now it's much more prevalent, and they can get big stars + directors to do big projects that might be web dramas only too.

Drama views in general have been heavily affected by short form video site like douyin, it went online in 2016, but it mostly started affecting view counts right around when they stopped super inflating the views, so like 2019? 2019 had fair amount dramas that did really well, last year and this year not so much.

Its monthly visitor is about 550mil to just under 600mil (right now). Note that that's one platform, there's three major platforms, and few years back, youku was on par with tencent in terms of monthly visitors. Dramas back then also tend to air on tv + all three platforms + no fast track + more time for non vip to watch the dramas, so even if there's overlap amongst viewers across platform, that's a billion viewers. iirc, china have about 4 or 5 billion internet users last time I checked, so it's not that outrageous. Anyways, you could inflate the view counts much easier too ;P It's not too difficult to get 10 billion though, essentially for historical dramas that are like 60 ep long, but it's not during its broadcast time usually.

lol, the list is not a rec list. I've only watched YAMH out of them, although they all did pretty well in the domestic market. I guess stuff I would rec don't necessarily do that well mhm.

Cursory search for subscribers for tencent video, looks like 125million members. I'd note that a lot of people stream dramas without subscribing, and due to cost of buying dramas, tencent video like iqiyi and youku are all in the reds, and they have been for last several years.

Veteran actors aren't actually that expensive, although i don't have actual numbers. I also got the impression neither Sun Honglei or Zhang Yixing are super expensive, but idk why I have that impression.

I only know dramas' cost if they disclose financial statements or seasonal/yearly reports because they are on the stock market. The closest comparison (modern, have fair amount of action, big-ish projects) I can think of would be You Are My Hero's 120million yuan from the biggest investor (I think estimate would be about 160 in total) for 40 episodes. My Dear Guardian is 200million for 40 episodes. The Penalty Zone is 180million for 44 episodes. So my wild guess would be 120million-ish (upwards to about 140 or 150 due to reshoots) for 28 episodes.

CC does have real life basis but they aren't specific enough for most drama viewers to know from the get go, it's more generalised corrupted police officers + local government etc. I'm not in love with it honestly, but it's interesting to look at its stats LOL

There are plenty of other cdramas that might be of interest, you watched remembrance of things past which I really liked, I'm starting couple of mirrors and stealth walker. Oh candle in the tomb worm valley is starting tomorrow, but mhmmmm not sure if that genre is your thing (tomb raiding/adventure?)

Haven't seen any financial statements so no, I'm guessing lower than YAMG though.

I think they put all the violence into the trailer lol, it's specifically blood that you don't see much, a lot of events (murder etc) happen offscreen, the drama consist of lots and lots of talking. Totally understandable that you have low tolerance for violence and genre though!

its tv rating is actually doing really well lol, but mostly because tv rating have been terrible lately. It's best rating this year so far for non cctv channels (cctv is national tv station and have a much much wider reach so its rating is usually counted separately) and best for beijing tv and dragon tv this year, probably crack top 10 for cctv 8, but i haven't followed the ratings.

there aren't actually that much gore in crime crackdown, it does cover lot of unsettling events though.

While love o2o was very popular, its tv ratings aren't actually as impressive as you'd think, the viewcounts wasn't no.1 either, it found huge audience amongst those that like romcom, but there's plenty that don't care for it. That said, it's a drama that's frequently rewatched, to the point that it frequently trends on its airing platform Youku and will probably make it into top 10 at times, competing against new dramas.

As for YAMG, it was significantly less popular as a book even when it came out, it also got criticism for being "too flat", too slice of life basically, that was transplanted to the drama too since the plot was virtually unchanged.

? more than 3 dramas have broke 8500 in 2021, my heroic husband, the rebel, a love for dilemma, my dear guardian and my best friend's story. I should note that 8500 was much harder to break prior to last year's summerish, that said, it's still a considerable feat now.

it's on the faster side, but it's actually the average time for modern dramas, they have less post productions to do + there's less restrictions on modern dramas, esp a romcom like this. The fastest I've seen for tv drama is about 4 months, shortest for web drama about 2 or 3 months?

she definitely did it purpose, Yu Tu's game handle is literally "jade rabbit pounds medicine", they have drama promo pictures that references the game handle too.

she probably dropped the drama, I don't think she watch dramas she dislike till the end (which is for the best honestly). she watches a LOT of dramas in my experience, stuff popular in china and unknown internationally, and stuff that's super underrated overall etc.

small note, gu man didn't pioneered the genre, many people wrote for it before her, some focus more on the romance, some focus more on the game. She did help popularise it though.
