Having now finished the novel, all I can say is, this drama really needed the production crew from Story of MingLan…
Both of those were very long so they were able to really flesh out the storyline. Today’s drama can’t exceed more that 40 episodes. . If it does, it would have to like season and season 2 kind of deal.

I don’t think they are trying to portray her has a genius warrior. She was a general which means that she is a smart strategist to command her troops. She isn’t by any means superhuman. In fact it’s probably much more realistic for her to get rescued. While she can hold her own against a bunch of foot soldiers, it isn’t easy against a skillful warrior general who is much larger and stronger. Also the other 1v1 duel, she literally was trying to buy time so that way her small contingent of trainee soldiers won’t get massacred by the larger experienced army. That alone makes her a leader amongst everyone else.

I think CL is suppose to be stiff. He’s constantly on guard especially since he has no idea who’s friend or foe. Can’t blame him. I think he’s doing a phenomenal job with just expressing with his eyes alone. Especially when he’s looking at the FL. It’s always with such intensity
