A very raw drama, I mostly watch Korean dramas but lately I've been in a dry spell and that means a lot of Chinese…
I think you miss the point. It's clear to me the director didn't want those scenes to be in this type of drama. The language of love is meant to be through subtle touches like words, actions that changes the outcome etc. Of course there would have been intimacy but that distracts from the raw emotions that affected them outside of their little bubble and the gist of the drama is that.
Wow this happened very fast. It didn't seem that long ago a certain actor was holding up this production, but here we are! Anyone that may have enjoyed Twelve Letters might like this one too. Also have Blemish Flaw on watch too. Too many dramas releasing at the same time...
i watched only for one reason. Lu Yu Xiao. My journey to you was her best before. Other two drama she was in had…
We'll just have to agree to disagree. I think she is doing very well considering her early roles like Parallel World, and I'm sure she is thankful for her role in My Journey to You which gave her the break.
Directors or scripts etc may be a factor, and yes there is an element of luck in play too, but if she was a natural, playing a side role can still make you shine. My point was she didn't immediately shine in Parallel World and Serendipity which I believe was filmed around the same time as My Journey to you.
Her character in My Journey to You was what the public fell in love with, and it was due to her being very good at speaking slowly and quietly and using very limited expression. But as you say, she has a charm in her and that is important in the performance industry.
As to the range, I think at this moment in time,(youthful appearance) she will be given roles where it's about personal growth, or roles where she's a victim or roles where she is spunky. This is what actresses like Li Landi are also good at, and I think this type of character will also suit her a lot. Not many actresses can play these types of roles convincingly, even though there are 100s of these types of dramas for FLs. So it's a wide variety for her to choose if she is now in the position to do so.
i watched only for one reason. Lu Yu Xiao. My journey to you was her best before. Other two drama she was in had…
Yes, she is charming. I have written about this on her page. She has a youthful demeanor which suits her being smart, quick witted, but also klutzy at times. She doesn't sit well doing scheming, manipulative as seen in Romance in the Alley.
Her role in My Journey to You and Blossoms In Adversity was very perfect in that she plays submissive and meek very well. Her voice and delivery also suit slow, or limited lines. Where she is expected to delivery heavy long dialogue and where she needs to exert dominant energy through her voice, that is not suited to her voice and face.
For now, she should do very well in modern romance and idol style costume dramas. She resonates with many young fans because she is a bridge of being a star, but also relatable to the viewers.
i watched only for one reason. Lu Yu Xiao. My journey to you was her best before. Other two drama she was in had…
Her performance in Romance in the Alley was terrible. She was unable to push her voice out where it was needed. She was supposed to be scheming and failed to portray that. She can only do quiet or cute. In Parallel World, she simply was not noticed much. It was only through her "character" that people fell in love with in My Journey to You. This is a common thing. People love the character and confuse that with the actor/actress.
So new accounts should be barred from rating something they watched then definitely loved and the sole reason…
This has been talked about on MDL before. The proposal is 6 months until that time has lapse can someone rate. Also not allowed to rate until episodes are out. These 2 simple steps are what's put to MDL but because it's run by a load of volunteers it would be another 2 years to see that take place.
Not precise but Douban 7.0 is probably equivalent to MDL 8.5 since their rating system is critical compared to…
MDL does not represent international audience. This site is more a glorified fan site dominated by fandom culture borrowed from China etc. Very often, ratings here is a lot higher for romance and idol style dramas. It is also no big secret that on dramas with high traffic stars, multiple accounts are used to do "data" in the background. You will normally see artificial comments just to inflate the comment count.
These are all classic fandom behaviour and does not show a drama is actually good/bad. Just fans supporting rather than really analysing the drama's plot/dialogue or logic. Many just want to see kissing and see a happy ending. That type of formula does not require a high degree of acting skill or thick plot lines. Just a group of beautiful people swanning around crying beautifully and looking tortured beautifully.
You see the comments as a barometer of a drama when more than half is dedicated to how wonderful the costumes are or how beautiful they are they "cannot" breath. If it's not that, it's whingeing about the second leads stepping on the main lead's romance. Come on, that's how you fill 30 plus episodes, or it would end in half of that time.
I think a lot of this was rooted in the history of seedy deal making when everything was not regulated much and…
Culture change can take time, so yes it would be nice if that type of 'deal' behaviour is shamed and discouraged, and governments will normally stay clear of these areas for fear of being labelled controlling.
This is no different to trying to control people's eating habits through measures such as higher tax on higher sugar products or carrying extra warning signs or simply slapping the industry with more tax or restrictions on when and where they can advertised. Alcohol is controlled to some extent through age and responsible selling.
As for alcohol being the source of issues, yes, like drugs, it can be, but there is a fine line between abuse of it and like in this drama, clearly used as a veil to do some dubious things and deliberate criminal activities.
My view is, if someone has a criminal mind, they will find another way to get what they want. But peer pressure on drinking is a form of bullying and that needs to change and more people talk about it, the more people will rise up and speak up. I hope this drama is one example of that.
She was pretty much used for her popularity and her fans to help hyped up the drama and promote others. 🫤 China…
I part disagree with that comment, but I don't think used, but more respect to her position. Like Chen Duling, she had roles and even main roles years back but for some reason she had not had a steady flow of work or works that become more popular. But, guest roles or a role like this can help to slowly establish her like with Chen Duling taking smaller or guest roles.
In The Knock Out, Li Yi Tong was billed FL but like here, was not figured in many scenes at all, but that drama lifted off, and now you are seeing her in more higher profile roles.
Sadly in China, visibility is often in respected dramas by more well known directors, or idol style dramas. With so much competition, many good actresses exist, but not always taking up the column inches and limelight. It's a fickle business and fandoms buy the character than the actor/actress sometimes, so luck should always be put into the equation.
I think a lot of this was rooted in the history of seedy deal making when everything was not regulated much and…
Whilst I agree with what you say, it's really accepted around the world that throughout history, making alcohol is part of a rich history. It won't be easy to erase that, even in China there would be resistance. Apart from very strict religion controlled countries, it's still not outwardly banned.
I dropped DY even though I tried so hard pushing myself up to episode 17. The style is aimed at children. The…
The subtitles go too fast so I have to keep pausing bits or rewinding bits. Unfortunately this is a common problem with me, and on this drama, it's not the type of drama where you can just take conversations for granted. But, it's OK, it is what it is.
is anyone else going crazy over chang huasen's face card. i was obsessed with him in a journey to love (looked…
I don't get it myself. He's playing impish here which suits him down to the ground but in A Journey to Love, he played a soppy disciple that's had a mad crush on his sifu. It was a bad character that made no sense in that drama, and I was shocked to see he had made an impression on others. I felt his acting was very ropey there. But, I guess, viewers like this boy-band look and I am not a good judge of what is classed as good acting.
I haven’t started it yet because it shares the same universe as the drama Dashing Youth, and I still have Dashing…
Just jump to this. I dropped DY after suffering up to episode 17 and I really tried but couldn't continue. I don't feel I need to watch that, everything is sort of making sense. I'm lucky in a sense that I know someone who has watch the 2 other dramas so easily helps me connect anything should I need it, but this is a good standalone drama.
I dropped DY even though I tried so hard pushing myself up to episode 17. The style is aimed at children. The…
Yes, that's a marked difference. I saw a few not liking this, but personally, I think this makes the fight sequence feel more real.
I'm more old fashioned in a sense that if I'm watching something like this, I want to see more proper combat rather than have lots of spinning and so-mo shots of endless sliding about and a few up-close clanging of swords. That's not the spirit of these dramas. Here, they have cut that down and put more emphasis on martial arts.
I just noticed that Yin Tao is also the director of Blood of Youth! Both Blood of River and BoY are my favorites!…
I dropped DY even though I tried so hard pushing myself up to episode 17. The style is aimed at children. The editing was awful. Characters all over the place and trying to be too many things at once.
This drama is heads and shoulders above that one. Every scene, the dialogue are all important. I don't feel there are any filler parts. They also chose to speed up fight sequence instead of the trend to slow mo most scenes which normally takes away the feel of any sort of fighting happening. I think after this drama, many other dramas will be copying this style more. It's more impactful.
Didnt get past the first ep because all i see is ml blaming her. He kept talking about her not decorating the…
Did you really drop it? This drama is ranked as one of the best growth dramas. You need to sometimes push past irritating and even triggering scenes to soon realise there is a reason for some characters' behaviour.
All of these problems stem from drinking alcohol during attempts to secure business deals with other companies…
I think a lot of this was rooted in the history of seedy deal making when everything was not regulated much and many deals were done restaurants or night bars. I think China is not like that anymore. This is more a portrayal of a smaller city with old guards that may have had a seedy past.
What is a problem is after work dos where there may be peer pressure to drink alcohol. This figures in a lot of dramas like Imperfect victim.
I thought they did a good job explaining how she became that way though, so her portrayal at the beginning made…
I disagree. She has those feelings but she's unable to act them out. This is why in the latter stages she starts to come out of her shell. She questions herself and that's growth and change. Part of this is due to her relationship with her husband. She needed a rock by her side to push herself into believing herself and he was that rock. I know it's a bit cliche, but it's also quite real.
A part of me is so mad at the FL for not cutting off her horrible mother after what she did at her big city company,…
Yes, she is ranked one of the worst mums in all Chinese dramas I have seen so far. Very tough watch. Sadly for me, this is all too familiar and after watching many dramas that feature bad parents, especially mothers or mother in laws, I realised I have come from a very very toxic upbringing so watching this, & can see how easily the daughter is unable to stand outside.
She's done well, but she is also a product of her upbringing. Thanks to her mum and society, she is battled down to keep her voice and opinions to herself. This is a story of growth and realisation. Very nice drama indeed. I really hope there will be some recognition for it.
Fight choreography sucks. Cgi is mehOnly good thing in this drama is when old guys show up. They act so well and…
I see a lot of love not hate from your comments, but you are fighting your love. Just like your comments saying you are not 'nick picking' after listing a list of issues. You care about the drama, and you cannot admit that you are warming to GJ either, but it's OK. It sometimes need outsiders to break through your fighting comments. I know you will watch this drama to the end even if countless others will tell you to stop if it's upsetting you. You are secretly enjoying the 'bad CGI' and bad' choreography' 😉
