IMO, the FL had chemistry with all her costars. Her chemistry with the ML was incredible; the fact these two could create such sexual tension with mere sexy dialogue and deep looks speak a lot about how crazy good their chemistry was. WJY also had quality intense scenes with her murderous husband; you could slice the tension be tween them with Su Guo Gong’s sword. Her emotional scenes watching her tortured father, her expression during the Qin competition, her emotional eloquence during the trial as well as the scene where she called out the 100 names show WJY’s versatility in delivering key climactic scenes in this drama.

Overall, this is not your usual idol drama, where you get the FL twirling around before ending half lying looking up at the ML for ten seconds while the music roars in the background. This is a slow burn intellectual drama where the two leads had the boldest flirtation going on in their dialogue while they politely drank tea or exchanged clothing items. 🙃

Also, Tong Er actress had to go back to school so the Director chose to kill off the character. It was stupid because there were other ways for this character to be away and survive!

I'm at the moment rewatching and counting the number of times through the drama the director uses a closeup of reaction shots during a tense reactionary moment (ala during the qin contest and also the Emperor/court episode). This drama was riveting because this director used certain "tricks" of the trade to involve our anticipation and this was one of them. Cheers!

I meant the ending. If it was just a dream, then they wouldn't be showing that XL arrived to save her and then take away the memories in her mirror. Then it wouldn't have happened so it wouldn't be drama canon, and therefore, no possibility of her ever knowing :). It's my very roundabout way of torturing myself, LOL.
