Title Deep In Spoiler
They are all real. In the series its an open ending and left to the audience. In the novel they are real.
Yes, exactly. A'Tong is Fang Chi's friend. Fang Chi tells her everything about his life with Gao Zhun. A'Tong is inspired. She writes a book about 2 characters who fall in love while filming a romance movie, and the screenplay for the movie is everything Fang Chi had told her.

Zhen Xin and Zhang Zhun are just characters in the book - they were never real people. (Until the retcon.)

In the novel, yes. kind of. tbh the author kind of retcons her work lol. I think you can tell she originally meant for Zhen Xin & Zhang Zhun to be fictional, but then she makes them real in the extra chapters released after the novel was done.

The show avoids that whole confusion by just keeping them fictional.

they're not real in the novel either though.

Fang Chi told their story to his friend, who wrote the book that he's reading in the last chapter. Note that she wrote a book not a screenplay. We never get mention of a screenplay and they never talk about a movie as they're getting their tattoos. Because the movie isn't real. The book is the only thing that's real.

Okay, these comments really confused me and made me think I'd misunderstood the ending. But no, Zhen Xin and Zhang Zhung were fictional - only Fang Chi and Gao Zhun are real.

oh my god we're the same. I'm honestly stuck on edge of horizon because why are they ruining a good thing???? it's so hard in the BL world to get a well made script and good actors - and then someone in the editing room decides to shit on all that by adding the most annoying sounds. if you have good dialogue and actors who can deliver, LET THEM WORK. Don't overshadow their work with constant noise

I watched this at 1.25 speed for the entire episode and even forgot I was doing so because it made *zero* difference…
Friend, I watched it at 3X. 🀣 (I'm a super fast reader...)

When they were having their cute moments, I slowed it down to 2X to savor the feels.

But the joke did go right over your head - they weren't wrong for pointing it out. Someone else who was less defensive would have just laughed at themselves and been like "haha my bad you're right, I missed the joke."This is just reiterating my earlier point - if you assume every interaction is an argument that you have to "win", you end up being unpleasant and then blaming others for your unpleasantness because in your head they threw the first stone.

they clearly were working with a limited budget here, and I think they did the best with what they had. Hopefully…
Haha it was well disguised to be fair. I only figured it out from the 2 times Chaeha went to hospital. No doctor, no ambulance, no nurses, and really sparse sets. The first time when he was stabbed, someone commented here that he walked out of the doctor's office like he had just gone because of a flu. 🀣🀣

They got lucky cause most of the show was either in the office or in an apartment, so it still looked good.

I'm not sure why you think we're engaged in snarky banter. My response to you was totally earnest. Maybe that's why your responses are so unfriendly, since you think people are being snarky? Whereas if you could hear my tone in person, I don't think you'd be talking to me like this. Or maybe you would, idk, haha maybe this is just how you treat everyone you talk to even in real life

idk their joke was actually pretty on point, you're just the one who didn't get it. why do you need to put them down instead of just saying "oh my bad, I missed the joke"

you're making a lot of assumptions about me and we don't even know each other. I think you should treat people better.

Even if you think I'm not as intelligent as you, why does that mean you're allowed to be rude to me? Why can't you argue your point in a respectful way?
