CW shares a lot of overlapping themes with CD. Both are on my WL, so it will be interesting to compare them. Although…
Yes, I honestly think Feud was terribly written, and it didn't do any of the supporting cast any favours. I found most of them to be irritating distractions rather than vital components of the story. LYQ didn't stand a chance. Tbf, I've seen terrible Hollywood movies where screen legends look like trash. I always say actors can't save a bad script. But they can ruin a good one. It achieved the heat index, though, so I'm sure we'll see more of that type of thing. Some scripts just don't allow talented actors to shine. Hopefully, this doesn't happen to Xingyue very often in his career.
I've been on the Jinmai page checking out how OG has been performing, and I got tipped off about where I could watch it without subscribing to NF. So, I dropped CD, and started OG to see for myself. While I was there, I searched for Scent of Time. I found it, and decided to start watching it, too. I've seen a tonne of shorts, and it's been on my WL for ages, but the only place, until now, I thought you could watch it was HBO. Looks like I'll get to judge Zhao Qing's lead performance for myself. Lol. I totally agree. I love actors with expressive eyes. It actually bothers me if they lack this skill.
Those water armies are impressive. Like the LYR fans swarming Xingyue's socials. Haocun's have been all over Jinmai's. No idea how it started, but it's impressive. I literally can't tell if it's expert coordination, bots, or a combination of both. You see similar when someone posts a comparison asking which actor or show you are most looking forward to. There are often one or two dominant groups of fans flooding that thread posting pics, liking similar posts, and shilling for their favourite star or their star's upcoming drama.
PS... I really hope CW is next. Early Aug CW and late Aug Fated Hearts is the rumour that keeps popping up. If not, I going to watch PM instead.
1MR. Congratulations, HS 🥳🫶. Any time they want to drop this thing, I'm ready. Looks like there is a strong…
Oh, silly me. I completely forgot about TIA being strongly rumoured to air in late July / early August. Thank you. It's also on my WL, so I'll be happy with that arrangement, too.
How is this drama going? More importantly, how is Mai Mai performing? It's on my watchlist, but since OG is not…
Thank you. I'm really enjoying her in AASOL. Loving the slow-burn. When I realised I couldn't watch OG, I just had to find something of hers to watch. When I found the complete series of AASOL was on YT, I was extremely happy. It has filled the OG void. It was going to be the first show I watch when I finally get around to purchasing the Tencent app later this year. I have the other two, IQIYI and Youku. But, it's not worth me getting Netflix or Viki because I don't watch modern Western shows, Kdrama, and Jdrama.
I've been following the progress of OG via Jinmai-related Weibo content, news, and updates. Initially, everything was positive. I saw it hit the 9K mark, then I popped onto the OG MDL page to congratulate her. But, then various black materials started to creep in, and a skirmish with Haocun fans took place. So, it has been hard to get an accurate gauge ever since on Weibo. I'm glad you're enjoying it. I think I'll enjoy it, too.
Is it more romance or life drama? Would it best be described as a combination of both?
Also, I just watched a short spoiler for AASOL. It doesn't really matter because it's a year old, but it appears that she gets pregnant at the end. Is that correct?
Congratulations for one million reservations 🎉🥳 Hopefully the green light will be on soon and the drama…
1MR. Congratulations, HS 🥳🫶. Any time they want to drop this thing, I'm ready. Looks like there is a strong possibility of Calming Waves (early August) and Fated Hearts (late August) on IQIYI. So, it might be a really great time to drop this. Just saying, Youku. The competition level here seems to be a good fit for HS. Even if it is against my favourite leading man 💙WXY💙 (I'll support both 😁).
CW shares a lot of overlapping themes with CD. Both are on my WL, so it will be interesting to compare them. Although…
That's great news. I went back and watched the trailer again today, and I'm now 99.9% convinced CW will be better than CD. It's funny, I've been following so many upcoming dramas that I actually forgot just how good that trailer is. I can't wait for it to air. I really hope they go b2b.,
Lmao. Is there a Chinese version of telegram or something where fanbases plan raids on SM content / network centres related to rival stars? The smears and dark press all seem very coordinated at times. Even bot-like.
I'd be interested to know what that melon review thought of OG? Along with WXY, Mai Mai is one of my top three actors that I follow religiously. It was one of my highly anticipated dramas until I learned that Youku Int would not be carrying it. Viki and NF aren't worth me getting because the majority of their content is of no interest to me. So, I had to skip it. Jinmai related weibo has had a lot of negative things being posted lately. And, her Chinese fans ended up in a fan-war with Haocun fans 😆. It doesn't just happen to WXY.
Yeah, ZQ hasn't really stood out to me either. Although I did like her supporting role in TD. Tbf, there were actually lots of Double cast members in Feud and I thought they were all disappointing. Even though they were great in TD. LYQ who played Shen was dull, too, and he's a great actor. ZQ has a decent look, but the talent just doesn't leap out at you. She seems solid, not spectacular. However, if the trailer for her new lead role looks quality, I'll give it a try. She might surprise me.
Who’s enjoying Our Generation so far? I know I do. 😄
How is this drama going? More importantly, how is Mai Mai performing?
It's on my watchlist, but since OG is not airing on Youku Int, and only on Viki and NF, I can't watch it. I plan to watch it at a later date if it gets uploaded to YT. I check in on Mai Mai everyday on Weibo, Douyin, and MDL, etc. But, Weibo has been full of mischief lately, so I was hoping to get an honest opinion regarding the show.
I'm actually currently watching AASOL, just completed episode 9. So, I was wondering how it compares to that?
Oh, this acting is so raw and real. I was just coming to post this, but you beat me to it 😁. Great work 👍.…
Tbf, that's unfortunately the nature of the beast. They are both superb and extremely talented young actors. In China there is always discussion amongst C-netizens about the successful flowers of each five-year period (standout and influential female stars). Discussion does happen about male actors in these periods. But, not to the same extent. The 05 class is coming of age with three of them already doing lead roles in costume dramas: Deng Enxi (05), Huangyang Tian Tian (07), and now AiMi (08). All three started as child actors, so the class is quite a good one with a lot of potential. Some more talents may emerge from the institutions at a later date.
If you want an example of how crazy C-ent can be at times, look up the Huangyang Tian Tian earnings scandal (the scandal that lost her the role to AiMi). One social media post resulted in a complete investigation of her family. At one point, it looked like her career might be over, but the good news is Tian Tian and her family have been cleared of wrongdoing after an investigation. C-netizens prompted this investigation.
Much like fake Linghe fans attacking Ruohan during TBT, it's just something that comes with the territory. They need to develop thick skin and smarts to weather the slander and criticism. WXY was being attacked by LYR fans (perhaps fake fans) the other day. It's just something that's part Cdrama fan culture. Tbf, it's part of Western fan culture, too. I've seen people fight over the legacies of long-dead actors. I tend to just let them rest in peace and appreciate both, even if one is my favourite. I also hear K-pop and Kdrama fandoms fight and compete a lot, too. It just must be human nature.
The reaction has been nothing but positive from what I've seen on Weibo. But, the avenue I get my information from is by searching Wang Xingyue and browsing the related news generated from that search. However, that brings up fan-wars and criticisms. So, if bad things were being said, I would likely see it. I have only seen positivity regarding this pairing and all their great bts moments. The same is true with the recent promotional event content 😁. Even the Ruohan and Xingyue fanbases have been on good terms. Sometimes things flare up between the fans of the leads. I haven't seen examples of that here.
Oh, this is simply divine 🥰. Now, I've got a question for you. How does this bts chemistry and content compare…
OK. It's all good. I was just curious because, as I said, he's only really just graduated to these roles. He's a quick learner, and looks very much at home in them. I wanted to measure him against someone who has been doing these romantic lead roles for much longer 😁.
Linghe has been a charismatic leading man for some time now, so I was interested in the comparison. I've heard he can be somewhat introverted bts. Even though he oozes charisma on-screen. Linghe has an interesting background as he was originally a STEM grad who studied electrical engineering. Similar to Chen Duling. This may explain an introverted nature. I have seen some promo content with him from TPR with Jinmai, and bts content from their new show OG. Some of it was pretty good. But, I didn't think it was LIRD level of good. But, there's a strong chance I'm biased 😉, so I wanted an unbiased opinion.
By contrast, for those of us who have been following Xingyue, it's quite noticeable he's developing quite a big personality / presence.
We will have to wait until it has aired to get a better comparison. I only wanted to compare bts to bts (apples to apples 🍎).
His lift and carry skills are truly superb. His FL is always safe in his arms. The clip where Ruohan has her hair…
Actually, that's a really good point. I've been following so many things in Cdramaland lately that I didn't even think. Usually, I click the spoiler option, which keeps the page tidy and is good etiquette (I'll edit the long responses and activate it).
Lol. I honestly think WXY has the potential to be the Clark Gable of C-ent. The Gable concept is really just an idea of a ML that can play a smaller compliment to the FL. Perform an equal 50/50 carry of a project with a FL. And, of course, take the primary role and carry a project with a male-centric focus. I would 100% watch a WXY police drama, for example. I'd even watch a project where he roams around ancient China on a horse 🐎 😆.
Tbh, C-ent doesn't need a Vivien Leigh. It feels like the ratio of quality actors is skewed in favour of female talent. It happens in different industries where the balance is out. It seems like C-ent produces (3–4) quality female talents to every (1) male talent. This actually contributes to the AiMi dilemma. Although there is an outstanding young male talent coming through by the name of Lin Ziye (Lester Lin). He was born in 2011 and has starred in MJTY and FOF. He's a real standout child actor with heaps of potential.
Perfectly understandable. Good vibes, a touch of escapism, and uplifting experiences are a good reason to watch dramas. I'm somewhat of a purest who loves the craft of filmmaking and how the individual components come together to tell a story and create a moving experience. The concept and execution of a project matter most to me. Unfortunately, you end up watching a lot of beautiful, but extremely heartbreaking content.
I'm exactly the same when I watch romance. If it doesn't look right, I'm not buying it.
CW shares a lot of overlapping themes with CD. Both are on my WL, so it will be interesting to compare them. Although…
Yes, once nepotism creeps in, it only serves to hurt the industry in the long run. Extracting wealth from the next sensation rather than nurturing and developing talent.
CW shares a lot of overlapping themes with CD. Both are on my WL, so it will be interesting to compare them. Although…
ZQ, wasn't she originally a Hanfu model? She's the poison master from The Double and the SFL from Scent of Time, right?
I remember she was also part of a Glass magazine selected 00 flowers group with Hu Lianxin, AiMi, and Wang He. I think it was published last year. Yes, I've noticed the push behind her. She pops up a lot. I've mostly seen her in support roles, with Feud being the last one. It wasn't a particularly memorable role. But, tbf, I pretty much wasn't impressed by any of the supporting cast in Feud. Even though I've seen some of them perform well in other shows. I believe she's also in The Immortal Ascension. She appears in dramas with big names a lot.
It's hilarious how these things start. I saw the same old pictures being rolled out. Such as his thin frame from First Love. Fanbases must have memes and unflattering photos of their favourite actor's rivals permanently saved on their computers just in case a fan-war breaks out. Lol.
Agreed, I would love to see him recognised as a top-tier actor one day. He certainly has the talent.
Looks like the rumour you posted about CW might be going to become a reality. I actually think it'll be better than CD. I've struggled to get into it. And, I really like ARP. I just think I prefer these types of dramas to be male-led. WXY'S drama will deliver that.

Thought I'd ask. YT shorts can be misleading.
Weibo always descends into fanwars. I follow WXY, too, and he was being attacked by the LYR fanbase the other day. Lol. It's just the way it is.
