Wow. The ability to speak and understand the language, and the historical knowledge you've accumulated must enable you to appreciate these dramas at the highest level. I actually had a conversation here on MDL about this. The layering in outstanding filmwork usually has elements that can be appreciated at different levels. Good science fiction might have a layer that those with STEM backgrounds can enjoy, and good historical productions will have a layer to be enjoyed by those with a deep understanding of the history and culture depicted in the show. As only they can appreciate meticulous detail and historical accuracy.

I have a lot to learn as my appreciation is at the layer of filmmaking and performing universals that can be appreciated cross-culturally. Ai Mi, for example, has phenomenally expressive eyes already at such a young age. She surpasses many senior actors in this regard. This was a cornerstone of old Hollywood and a factor that really set that golden age apart. It's almost a lost art in the contemporary version. I'm also a fan of less is more in filmmaking. Overselling typically means you don't trust the intelligence of the audience. Of course, film has always been guilty of falling into the money trap and feeling the need to insert fanservice.
I'm actually taking a different approach. I decided not to engage much directly with negative posts. Instead, I'll let those who take issue with the casting speak their mind freely without looking to invalidate or attack their opinion. I may post the odd reply, but it will be targeted and with purpose. It likely won't be directed at any absolutists. The replies will be to those that have concerns, but still have an interest in this project. I'll happily refer these types to your posts and discussion topic.
However, I am actively putting in work to avoid narratives being formed in the comments. By posting all this bts content, it lets people see for themselves the atmosphere on-set. It's the best way to counter narratives alluding to the actors being uncomfortable with each other. Claims that Ai Mi's mental condition is at risk. Statements that she is merely a child being taken advantage of. Neo being made to look like a predator. And, Ai Mi being inexperienced and simply chasing fame. The content is there. They don't need to search for it. People can now easily go and look for themselves, and then come to a decision that best suits them.
I basically want to assist people like yourself, and make sure there is lots of content being posted, so people can make decisions for themselves. The odd negative comment doesn't bother me. It's to be expected. As long as the comment section doesn't dwell in that space.
Tbf, after the initial storm / reaction of some people posting about their unease with the casting. Some genuine. Some perhaps masked the disappointment that their favourite actress was overlooked. The comments section has started to normalise, and the discussion has become more drama-focused. Which is great.
Really appreciate your insightful posts. It's great to read things you learn from, and gain a deeper understanding of what's taking place in the drama.

Ooh, please let this be true 🙏. I like this concept even better. It'll probably upset pure drama fans who only like their favourite MLs in certain types of vanilla roles. But, those who appreciate the craft of filmmaking and acting talent will love it. Hollywood legend Henry Fonda, playing a villain for the first time in Once Upon A Time In The West (1968), springs to mind. The performance was one of motion pictures' most memorable, and his character became known as one of the most iconic villains in cinematic history.
