I feel the same way! I've been watching dramas for years now, and have found that C-dramas, as quirky as they may be sometimes, are more realistic and heartwarming than repetitive K-dramas that are often crammed into not enough episodes

After several years of watching dramas, I've gathered that Douban has a reputation for it's low ratings--whereas MDL has almost the opposite reputation (ratings are too high and overrated).
I've never liked the rating system on Douban either, but ngl sometimes it's helpful when something's overrated, and you're looking for a more 'honest' rating. I compare MDL and Douban ratings all the time to find the middle ground rating haha

100% this, I couldn't have said it any better. While I was watching it, it seriously felt like watching two separate dramas, just like you said. Unfortunately, I don't know about you, but I think this drama is a little overrated. I don't really see how it ever got a 8.8 score. I love the leads, and their chemistry is good, but I don't see it as almost 9-star material?? So ppl are rating it at the same level as Hidden Love, PoJ, and the First Frost?
