Ugh I hade how on MDL some ratings are unfairly blown up, whereas on Douban the opposite is the problem. But yeah 6.6. is particularly low. I would have expected 7.3+ or something (knowing douban)
As someone who has followed the Chinese entertainment industry for quite a long time, I have to say this isnβt…
That is actually insane. π€¦ββοΈπ₯ I have to really be honest here and say that the Chinese movie-making (dramas included) industry is honestly so toxic. I fully support actors because some are insanely out of this world talented, but what you are saying is just awful.
And yeah I did hear about that from Princess Royal when it was first airing, which honestly caused me to have no interest in watching it.
My only problem with this show for now is there are so many people relevant to the story and thus so many names…
Took me a while to remember everyone's face first. I'm constantly consulting the cast list. It's pretty common though for there to be tons of characters in a historical
Looking at the ratings I had expected too much maybe, but had to drop in the middle. Just didn't interest me that…
Unfortunately like most 40+ episode dramas it hits a moment when things get maybe too hectic or bland...I'm on ep 21 and I kind of feel like that. I hope you can pick it back up again eventuallly!
The bathtub scene is included don't worry, its in ep 38.
Ooh, gotcha! Ugh yeah I guess for TV that dialogue might be too much...but it's quite frustrating. I wonder if Chinese mainstream television has age ratings. In my country, our TV channels always display age ratings like 14+, 12+, or 18+. I assume China does not have a similar system?
- QM's complex character and Deng Kai's acting is what I'll remember about this drama years from now. His AU ending…
Would you look at that! Ugh, yeah I could tell the drama was not rendering the flashbacks as clearly as they should. It's so annoying. And I was getting really annoyed with QM's attitude towards his own son--but this makes total sense now. I read about the nanny in the spoiler, so at least I know that much oof
Thank you for taking the time to explain.
Hmm, and I guess this means that this drama isn't entirely historical-fiction, then, if QQ got reincarnated/time-traveled

Hmm yeah as others are saying it is really odd. I had heard the director (or whoever it is) had been generous with not censoring things that normally would have been redacted...but this doesn't sound generous haha
I can't finish it.I stopped at ep37. I feel deflated, as if I've lost the motivation to bring it to a conclusion.…
I'm only on ep 21, but ngl seeing this comment reminded me of Prisoner of Beauty. It got the point that I was content with the story at about 3/4ths of the way, and I didn't care to finish ππ I did eventually tho and it was worth it haha
Omg I get you, but you definitely want to watch the in-between eps. This is one of those few dramas that are so good that there's new stuff happening in every single episode--you don't want to miss anything, believe me!
When the news of the leak of the last episodes was still fresh, and this comment section was in a frenzy, I may have accidentally clicked on a link to a video of a scene with the leads together, apparently from one of the unaired episodes. The scene was ig a 'sexy' clip of them in a bathtub, if I remember correctly.
I'm curious if anyone who has finished the drama can confirm whether this scene actually appears in the show, since I heard that after the leaks, people were posting deleted clips that didn't make it to the final cut.
I just don't want to set my expectations for a scene that might not actually be included. Y'all π

I'm currently on episode 21, but I came across a spoiler regarding QQ and QM's story from the novel...I'm wondering if I missed the part where it's revealed that QQ is a modern-day woman in the drama, or did the director choose to exclude that part? Their relationship is co complex and irreparable. I wish they could live happily together, but it's absolutely impossible, knowing the way things are headed. Another thing I'm confused about that I don't think the drama did/does a good job of explaining (unless i missed it again idk) was their first encounter--essentially, I've been trying to figure out since day one if QQ was raped/assaulted by QM, and if that's why she just literally despises him...or if it's something else, since you say she treated that night as a one night stand gone wrong. Honestly, I'd be really grateful if you could just explain what the hell happened that night because I'm actually confused haha
Anyway, Deng Kai has become one of my favorite actors--his talent is unmatched. I actually first saw him in Butterflied Lover and then The Maid, so I was ecstatic to see him starring in a high-budget long-form drama. I hope to see much, much more of him soon.
