Oh my god they freaking deleted the pulse checking scene in japn ver, it was literally turning point of their…
Thanks for telling us. I think that settles it for me, I won't watch it at all. I think the pulse scene has been stuck on many people's minds ever since watching it for the first time, and losing it is just too much. Who knows what other interesting scenes were in the drama that we'll never know about because they got deleted? I'm usually not a fan of crime, and if they just removed the whole BL subplot, it's kind of useless to watch it in the first place. I'm kind of at a loss how to rate this show now. The original was a 10/10 for me, but this new version ...?

Thanks for this constructive comment amidst all the "let's steal it" comments. πβ€οΈ
I've seen 5 episodes so far. I really like the whole mysterious and dark atmosphere and both protagonists are…
Where do you watch the show? I remember that I liked the subtitles on Youku, but I absolutely hated the fan subbed version, it barely made any sense. But I remember shows that were barely watchable because of the speed of the subtitles. Like, shows where they translate ε― as "Yes, I think you are completely right." π And yes, I have to agree, I really love the dark atmosphere. This dark city, the car rides at night and the ending song - they all create a very special atmosphere, it's calm and unsettling at the same time. By the way, I really love the lyrics of the ending song, they fit our Pei Su so well.
As far as I understand, we have to wait around four months for it to air completely at any rate. I still hope that a platform like Viki will pick it up soon. Then we can watch it in one go, with good subtitles and legally. I think it's worth the wait, compared to stealing & watching it with bad subtitles.
This. π― I don't really agree with the strong language you use, but your point is completely valid. WOWOW isn't doing this to be kind to the world, they want to make money from this and if we want to see more productions, we need to give them their money. It's as simple as that and I feel this is something that's often overlooked when we discuss Chinese BL adaptions. Like, the way everyone still talks about fan subs of The Spirealm as if it's a good thing? Man, if you watch fan subs on some weird website, you're stealing the show. It's a desaster from the producer's point of view.
Do I need to watch Joy of life 2019, Joy of Life Season 2, Joy of Life Season 3 (not out yet) all in order?
Yes, absolutely. Season 2 doesn't really make any sense without season 1. They don't explain everything all over again. I saw some people on YouTube who obviously hadn't watched the first season figuring out things that had been revealed in season 1 near the end of season 2 π
Guo Baokun's father πππ I totally forgot about that dude. Didn't Guo Baokun live with him in prison in the end? π€£ I absolutely hated the way Fan Xian treated him in Season 1, beating him to a pulp and then making fun of him. In season 2, I thought his behavior had improved, even though he was still just using the poor guy. But you're right, he and his father have been "living" together in prison for quite some while now π Fan Xian really doesn't care at all about him.
Yep, the yodeling was ... weird. I have the feeling they got the idea from Zhou Shen's "The Lonely Goatherd".…
Yes, the sound editing is sloppy. I don't even want to talk about how downright wrong it usually looks when actors "play" instruments because the music is added later and they don't even try to match music and hand movements (in fact, Joy of Life did this one right in Season 2 with the lute player, thank god). But there are some things you start noticing when you've watched some C-Dramas and it's super annoying/funny (depending on how you look at it, I guess). Like you mentioned, excessive breathing, then sounds of rustling clothes (I think there are only to sounds available for that in all dramas) and, oh god, the sound of fist clenching. It always sounds like they are wearing the cheapest leather gloves possible, even when they don't wear any and THEIR HAND SHOULDN'T MAKE ANY SOUND AT ALL haha.
I guess they don't care about good sound editing because it's expensive and fans usually don't care. Why should they invest more money then?
Already enjoying Season 2 quite a lot, but two observations:1. What's up with the Sound Of Music rip off yodeling?…
Yep, the yodeling was ... weird. I have the feeling they got the idea from Zhou Shen's "The Lonely Goatherd". But it doesn't suit the drama at all ... I also had a another very big problem. Halfway through the drama, I noticed how the sound they used for walking was really off. People stomp throughout the whole series whenever they move even a little bit, it's a really strange sound. Like walking on a carpet with socks trying to make as much noise as possible. And as I had noticed this, it kept bugging me till the end π Still enjoyed the show, though.

They will air till 25 April.

Cheng Yi = sad ending π
