I'm not proud of the old days of BL, but they were there. I got into BL with manga like Ten Count and Love Stage. Two others that have their own shortcomings >.<, I was astonished to see that Love Stage got a JBL adaptation actually.

It was set in 2001 I'm pretty sure. Even not being a power house, pagers were not popular even in the late 90s when cellphones became popular because they served the same purpose. As far as cassettes, illegal internet downloading was all the rage with websites like Napster and Limewire. So burning CD's to make your own mixes was a popular way to flirt in 2000. I could believe he had a cassette player to record his piano playing, but no one else having one was a bit odd. I understand what you mean by vibe. Toxic masculinity was all the rage at the time. It felt like everyone was very modern-minded and too cool with things.

Just a friendly PSA, if you aren't familiar with old BL or old BL dramas and the dub con toxic mess that they used to be, this is probably not for you. BL has come a long way, and if you are curious just how far, this is a great example of just how much less toxic BL is now.

The reason this was so popular is it was a pretty standard storyline for BL from the 2010's. Dubcon and such were romanticized and it was groundbreaking for its time. The same way the the ABO dramas are right now. It was something forbidden and that made it fun. It hasn't aged well at all. BL has come a long way and made massive strides since this came out. Most of the reviews are from when it aired and honestly should be revisited because, like I said, this drama has not aged well at all. Having said that, it does stand as one of the first very popular BL and is a milestone for the genre. It deserves recognition for that at least.

Absolutely. Pagers had been outdated for several years, and cassette players too. About the only things they had right were playing Starcraft and the poor computer graphics XD. The societal stigma was super harsh at the time, and they would have had a ton of problems being accepted. This was my highschool era and I saw a lot of hate, even violence happen. Bullying was pretty much a sport back then, and you either played, or spent your time avoiding being a victim. TharnType would have been a closer vibe to the 2000's IMO.

My only complaint is the poor representation of the time. Pagers were already outdated, and people had CD players and burned CD's from poorly ripped downloads. Honestly, the setting had very little to do with the story and could have been modern and been fine.

Tbh this series is decent for what it was trying to introduce. I can't imagine their budget was phenomenal, and they've done a pretty good job with one of the first Omegaverse dramas out there. I'm sure after some success, the dramas will have better budget to explore the genre.

Gagaoolala has been. Appointment of contention on this site for at least four years I know of. They haven't added it yet, I'm pretty sure they never will.

The costumes and sets are beautiful and the acting is actually amazing. The story and editing are disjointed in a way that cuts off each timeline and doesn't let you get fully into any one of them. I felt like someone was sitting on the remote switching dramas starring the same actors.

This one took me back to the old days of BL. Not going to be everyone's cup of tea

I agree the writing/directing was awful. I liked the chemistry between the MCs, and hope to see them in something better.

I learned to read tarot cards in my youth. Sometimes the cards reveal things that are going to happen, so they seem to have to context to the reading. Often mediums just gloss over those things or say them in a convoluted way so they don't seem like a fraud. He's super brave to say that he doesn't understand what the cards are revealing, but if you look up the cards and their meanings, they absolutely apply to the future events.

I feel like the writing got in the way on this one, and maybe some budget constraints. The chemistry between the characters was great, and I look forward to seeing what the MC actors do in the future.
