My point of view noble matriach in hisotical chinese drama have a tendency to favor male heirs. Her only concern is about continuing the line for many more years. They don't favor female descendents because they do not continue to line. So when a daughter or grandaughter brings fame to their family, she will love them. When they cause trouble she will cut ties with them. Since Madame Jiang isn't a kind heart person, she will never stand by Jiang Si no matter what she does. She isn't a loving person. That is why she can see that her DIL is a scheming witch.
