Bokura Ga Ita has always been a favorite manga of mine. I loved its anime version, too! That's why I was looking forward to watching this movie adaptation, too! (Watching Ikuta Toma is a plus. Hihi.)
Although I would've given the manga's story a 9 while the anime's an 8, I gave this one a 7 because this movie, when watched by those who are not aware of the manga/anime or haven't read the manga or watched the anime yet, didn't really manage to make the audience grasp the feelings the scenes should have shown. It's really because of the fast pacing. If the manga and anime have fast pace in this part of the story, the movie's way faster. It felt like I was fast forwarding the scenes myself. (The fast [romance] pace in this part of the story's what I actually dislike in the series.) Regardless, though, I have to say that I didn't get bored while watching this. I actually kinda liked how they showed the past.
Ikuta Toma's acting is good, although like what some people said, his "atmosphere" is different from the actual Yano showed in the manga and anime. Just looking at the movie, though, it's not that much of a problem since his Yano is still good. The girl who acted as Nana-chan is tolerable. I agree with what others said that they don't have much chemistry and I blame that again for the fast pace.
I'm kind of disappointed with the Take here. I actually love that character, but the movie doesn't show much of him. The girl who acted as Yamamoto is good.
I liked the music all throughout the movie.
There's a big possibility that I'll re-watch this, most especially because I really originally love the series.
Overall, for me, this is a good movie. I liked the cinematography. The story's just... really fast. But the scenes after the "ending" of this part is what I'm really looking forward to. This part is good, but the later parts should be better. (And I really hope the part 2 of the movie gives justice to them.) I agree with what others said that this should have been made into a drama instead of a movie with two parts because that way, the feelings and thoughts of the characters could've been given more emphasis.
In any case, people who love BGI should give this a try. Also, those people who like innocent high school romance stories may like this.
