I don't what people will think of this, but I think Xu Qi An should have relationships with other women in Season 2 (and maybe after as well). It's one of the good things about people forgetting about him at the end of Season 1.

As people know already, Xu Qi An had a large harem in the novel (all with women older than him lol, he has that in common with Wang He Di), with multiple wives. The main purpose of this probably was to show that he is a flawed person and not a normal good hero. But this degrades women a lot and never could have made it past censorship.

But having multiple love lines can still do things for his character. He is supposed to be a flawed person who chooses justice no matter what. People may mistake that as him just being a brave hero, but he's more so a guy who chooses to do righteous things out of instinct to do justice.

Having actual traits that are largely disliked can help show that. Xu Qi An having interest in other women besides Lin An but not taking them all as wives, maybe breaking up with each one of them; can show his flaws without degrading women. I think that in Season 1 they didn't show enough severe flaws about his character. The flaws you can point out aren't disliked by most.

It also doesn't make any sense for him to have a true love for someone at this point, he didn't actually meet with Lin An that much. And honestly she hasn't done that much for him to make him wholly devoted to her either. By making people forget about Xu Qi An, it gives him a reason to consider relationships with other women because he thinks Lin An has forgotten him (even though she hasn't completely, but still).

That's just my opinion.

I really think Tian Xi Wei should start focusing more on female-centric roles after this, because in this drama…
Even though you're criticisms of the character are common (and justified) I haven't seen that much hate towards her herself for it. Could be that on Weibo there is a lot of hate but it's probably more lukewarm compared to hate I've seen for other actresses. I've seen more hate towards the character and not her herself.

Part of this hate towards the character is also stemmed from false expectations; they definitely market it like she is the female lead but in actuality she is not even the 2nd or 3rd most important character in the story. Definitely sours expectations if you expect her to be anywhere close to the male lead in importance, but that's the fault of the marketing team.

As lily said; Lin'an isn't that major in the original novel, she actually got relatively more screen time in the drama. But she was Xu Qi'an's main wife in the novel, so they probably thought they could make her the central love interest. The novel version of Xu Qi'an is has multiple wives which obviously doesn't make past censorship in the drama. If they wanted him to have a main love interest they would choose his actual wife I guess.

Though the problem is; it doesn't feel right for Xu Qi'an to have a true love, at least at the point where the drama is. It just doesn't make sense with his character. This is one of the good things about everyone forgetting about him, it's how he can have multiple love lines, show genuine flaws without doing obvious polygamy.

This isn't to demean Lin'an though, I trust that the drama team does have a plan for her, at least I hope so. I trust that they can figure out how to make her play a more major role (the og author should help with this, I hope he did).

Why do I feel like ran fang xu is no more in 2015 timeline. It seems like officer he is talking with his illusion…
A lot of people are saying this. At this point, if it is true then it would be too obvious. You can't make a big twist like this too obvious at the beginning.

It would be a bigger surprise if he wasn't dead.

Netflix does this all the time, they don't display all of the upcoming episodes at first. They add more and more as time goes by.

He was already stepping away from the "pretty boy" image with Xu Qi'an in Dafeng, I don't think he necessarily wanted that image anyways.

Its quite funny at times, and I have had a few LOL moments. Seeing Dylan Wang step away from the “pretty boy”…
He was already not typecasted and playing rougher roles that don't mainly lie on looks. Xu Qi'an in Dafeng was already this kind of role

So, how does it work - supposedly it's highly FL-centric drama (at least based on how Novel was) - I understand…
Cast order/billing is just a reflection of which of the two leads is a bigger name. It doesn't imply a significant change in focus with the story. This isn't the first time it has happened with C-dramas, for example Love Like the Galaxy 星汉灿烂 and First Frost 难哄 have the same thing as this drama.

Wang Hedi is a much bigger name than Meng Ziyi to industry people, so of course they would order him first. But since this is a romance drama, the male and female lead are expected to be near the same level of importance, so to them it's probably ok to bill the male lead first if he's notably more famous.

As for why it's this way; what I know is that Wang Hedi was eyed to play Xie Jingxing for a while (since like 2022), not to mention the IP rights are expiring, so they were desperate to get someone as popular as him. The female lead was much harder to cast, it seems like they couldn't find someone who both fits the role and is on the same level of fame/industry standing as Wang Hedi. That's all.

You might be farther into the drama by now, but I'll just say this: There's no reason to assume that he even wants…
It's show and don't tell. It's not relevant at the moment to explain why he doesn't want to go back. It's to make you ask "Why?" as a mystery, and create interest in understanding the reasons behind what he thinks.

Dafeng Season 1,; the early half especially, is about understanding who Xu Qi'an is, and his mindset of thinking. At least in my perspective.

As for family members, just keep watching.

Is this drama really worth its high ratings? I’m now at ep 13 and still am not hooked yet….im not quite sure…
You might be farther into the drama by now, but I'll just say this:

There's no reason to assume that he even wants to go back at any point, the opposite is implied in fact. You saw at the beginning how his life was kind of miserable and not admirable; who would he actually like that kind of life?

To become a high cultivation warrior that's super popular and powerful is a much better alternative to his life in the real world. Plus, he gets a second chance at life with pursuing his true passion, so he would never want to leave.

That section is mainly for big actors who make cameos or relatively small roles. Not appropriate for someone playing like the 3rd most important character in the story.

I personally think it doesn't matter in the end. The cast order or labels never fully show how important each character is in the story.

By watching you can fully tell who is more important than who.

I came to look for the romance tag too lol, I'll even take a slight romance atp 😭
ren min's character is supposed to see wang hedi's character ran fangxu as an uncle, which is actually much more interesting honestly, someone 1 year younger than him is calling him an uncle
