is this season the last one? are both seasons based on a single novel?
Season 2 being the last one is not something was said. I also don't think Season 2 will be the last one.

All seasons are based on the Guardians of Dafeng novel which is about 500 chapters.

I really hope that with Season 2 that they go all out with everything, especially the Yunzhou case. Like I mean to put 120% effort into everything.

I really hope he will film another drama soon before GOTD. πŸ™
I hope that ζŠ˜ε εŸŽεΈ‚ rumor is true; if any drama comes before Dafeng 2.

after empress erborn what drama will he take..there are rumors that he will likely shoot universe twinling season2…
I saw the rumor that he was cast in drama ζŠ˜ε εŸŽεΈ‚ or Folding City. It's an TV adaptation of award winning sci-fi novel Folding Beijing. To be filmed thus year they said. This is one rumor I really hope is true to be honest, if he will do anything before Dafeng Season 2 it should be something like this.

Yu Zhou Season 2 is confirmed but will probably start filming in October. Another drama could start filming before or after that.

On Light to the Night Jul 13, 2026
Late review, but I felt like saying this now.

Light to the Night is a well-made show overall, the plot is both complex and smoothly tied in logical ways, and the acting is overall very good from all of the cast. Especially Pan Laoshi and Wang Hedi's performances. I also thought the mentor-student dynamic between He Yuanhang and Ran Fangxu was one of the best parts of the show and there should have been a lot more from what was given.

The biggest problems I have are that the main plot twists aren't nearly surprising as presented (everybody guessed them right) or needed for a suspense show, and that several scenes honestly feel like they're just there to pad time. However, even though the main plot twists are obvious, the mystery and full truth is constructed well enough to where it compensates for it in some ways.

Final Rating: 8.4/10

Such a versatile actor, I just finished Light to the Night. I think he's trying to stray from the Meteor Garden…
Since CLJ came out, he's been picking dramas that don't fall into the 'idol' demographic. The only exception is Jmdh, but that's because Tencent has been inisisting on getting him to play Xie Jingxing plus the IP rights close to expiring.

What I think is him taking different genres is not just about diversifying roles; but that non-idol dramas are just not what he wants to do. Since he blew up in China he has more freedom to choose what he wants.

who will be a heroine may be Esther yu is a good match for him and l wanted to they paris again doing together…
Cast is probably mostly the same as Season 1. And as a reminder, no other character is nearly as important as Xu Qi An in Dafeng, so don't expect a tradtional main heroine.

Why they marked this as wuxia? It's a classical xuanhuan.
I don't know if there's any drama on this site listed as Xuanhuan, but I would say Dafeng counts as both Xuanhuan and Wuxia.

Ok so that is the correct distribution. Still Tencent being an actual co-producer should significantly increase the production level of the drama.

We don't know anything about the cast besides Wang He Di returning as Xu Qi An. Look forward to the official announcement.

they wont go beyond 40 episodes as there is a rule in china
The 40 episode limit was literally dropped almost a year ago now, which is why I can say I hope there's more than 40 episodes....

If it doesn't that's ok but I'd rather see them adapt more than that to cover more content from the novel.

this was such a good action comedy. I know Dylan Wang gets a lot of flack for his personal behavior but his talent…
The people who have followed him for years only have good things to say about him. Lots of malicious marketing clickbait accounts act simply to make him look bad for fun. In actuality, the people who know him only say good things about his personal behavior. Don't believe whatever marketing account or short clip you came across, Wang's personal behavior is well known to be among the best.

β€œI'm not a hero, I just have no way to retreat."

The quote on the poster that Tencent just fully confirmed as official. I'm pretty sure this quote is referring to that one big case; the one people were a bit sad to have in Season 1. But it definitely will be in Season 2 and it's supposed to be one of the defining moments for Xu Qi'an and Dafeng.

Is it too soon to say that it could be one of Wang Hedi's biggest scenes ever?

It's been recently revealed that Dafeng 2 will be fully produced by Tencent. Season 1 was produced by CCTV and Yuewen if I'm not mistaken, Tencent only was the broadcaster that held major stakes in the project.

So if Season 2 is a full-on Tencent production, then I'm hoping they'll go all out on the budget. Especially for that one heavy case that we know will be adapted in Season 2. I'm also hoping they go beyond 40 episodes this time to adapt more of the novel, Dafeng is the reason I'm glad the 40-episode limit was dropped in August 2025.

EDIT: Tencent is a co-producer with Xinli, Yuewen, etc. Still, Tencent being a co-producer this time should mean the production level is significantly higher.
