Zuo Ye has surprised me here. Different shades of emoting (the best of Murong Yao combined with another level of emoting er, certain understandable feelings) by episodes 27 and 29. I never thought I'd miss him in episodes, but I am very pleased at how he is carrying out Chen Xuanqing. Unlike some horrendous screenplay writing that butchers Ye Xian's novel-character and also makes FL dumber than the novel (but still smart) and managed to finally make me not like Ci Sha's Chen Yanyun (a first for me, to not like a character Ci Sha takes on) by episode 29- I am hoping it won't happen to Chen Xuanqing because by now, I'm making a note to KIV the main screenwriter as someone whose writing I hope is a one-off here.
That said, the four leads are acting well, and Zuo Ye is an unexpected bonus for me :)

You may have noticed I praise Ci Sha's acting as Chen Yanyun (and I adore Ci Sha), but I refrain from praising Chen Yanyun the character because he's too calculative, rightfully at times and also wrongfully at times.
It was episode 29 that had me really wondering what does Chen Yanyun feel for Gu Jinzhao. He obviously values her assets and traits, she affects his decorum and thoughts, so at the least he is infatuated. And feels a lot for her. But now I find myself questioning how he defines love. Yes, I saw the divorce letter. Beautifully-written. It sounds noble. And then I watched episode 29. Wow. Gee. He really managed to piss off Chen Xuanqing, and Chen Xuanqing believing certain things about him is primarily his saying and doing.
What are the screenwriters doing?! First I find myself unable to support the ML that I enjoyed seeing for more than 10 episodes, then I find myself unable to support or enjoy the relationship between the leads because I now wonder if Gu Jinzhao knows enough about Chen Yanyun to truly claim she loves him.

Zuo Ye is emoting very nicely. Episodes 21 onwards had me wanting him back, after the first 20 episodes. I never thought I'd miss Zuo Ye and his character.
Ye Xian got on my nerves for three episodes but by episode 29, I felt like whacking Chen Yanyun in the face with something hard because the way he manipulates people into choices merits some kind of reaction along those lines. If Gu Jinzhao saw all he has said and done, I'm not sure she would be so hot on Chen Yanyun.

Not only has the writing managed to induce me to dislike Ci Sha's character (this is a first!), it has also managed to make me disinterested in the main couple while giving me the impression of power imbalances between them that I'm not comfortable with.

It is lazy writing to completely butcher novel Ye Xian for drama-Ye Xian, which appears intentionally designed to constantly irritate drama viewers as much as possible about Ye Xian (and he has a family I don't want). With "Fated Hearts", at least drama-Xia Jingshi was still strategic and smart and composed, but devoid of conscience in certain aspects. Ye Xian could still be a decent character in this drama with fair writing, and yet the ML is the one who wins Gu Jinzhao's heart. That would be something interesting to watch, with 2 mature MLs.
Novel-Ye Xian is turned into a brat as drama-Ye Xian for the first 10 episodes and written as an emotionally immature imbalanced 2ML until at least episode 27 with "saving grace moments" to make the ML look great, and this is twice as bad as what happened to novel-Xia Jingshi. Now I'm actually relieved novel-Xia Jingshi was only partially butchered for the "Fated Hearts" drama, which is mostly enjoyable to me.
I can't decide which is worse: the imbalance and loss of momentum for the political intrigue which would have balanced out the mostly toxic Gu family and their stupidity mixed with asinine family politics for more than 12 episodes, or the drama-rendition of Ye Xian.
ZZA currently has 5 songs listed on Baike baidu. Another of those songs in "Zhan Zhao Adventures" is by Curley Gao, titled "Shattered Dreams as Blades".

I've only started a bit of episode 5, so I don't have a proper opinion yet about Bai Yutang and Zhan Zhao's relationship.
Zhang Ruonan's fighting scenes are taking me out of this series a bit, because it's obvious (to me) when a stunt double is doing her action scenes versus her wirework. To be fair, the fight choreography is quite demanding and there are five actresses in C-Ent I can think of who could make the action scenes work and indistinguishable from stunt doubles who would still be necessary to a certain extent, but I'm not sure they would suit the writing of Huo Linglong in this drama.
Yang Yang is carrying out some very difficult fight choreography, and his efforts are very admirable, considering he doesn't have a martial arts background.
