as someone who has seen this plot done a million times, the effects it should have becomes, dull
like any sob story, it's basically the same, and even as an artist, their focus on that didn't add any magical touches

Tbh instead of all those “plot twists” they should’ve been honest and lived /loved to the fullest
Not being honest with her put a toll on him, and not being able to be honest with him left her at arms length, so instead of enjoying their last days together, they put a wall around themselves and lived a lonely time
