This drama has me excited, I'm in episode 4 or 5 and I'm just thinking when I'll get back to my laptop to continue the episodes. It's itching me. I missed this feeling when watching new dramas
Ryeoun here reminds me of Kim Jung Hyun in Mr. Queen. For one, they look like they could be brothers, they have expressive eyes and similar styles of comedic delivery.
well, Korea released many BLs (with kiss scenes, conffesion)...
Yes Korea has many bls, I love Semantic Error. But they have been low budget from lesser known production houses and too short. They don't receive the same kind of budget, production and marketing as straight shows. That was my point. If SK ever decided to do a bl and give it the same treatment as straight shows the way GMMTV does, it would be over.
I've not enjoyed bls in forever, whatever has been coming out hasn't caught my attention. I watch like 3 episodes then I dip.
This is different, I've just binged the 4 episodes in a matter of hours and it's good. Really good, maybe it's that it's a bromance that I am enjoying it.
But the main point is that Korea has so much potential to release good bls, just like China, but CENSORSHIP. Ugh. This life no balance.
As a Yibo fan I'm super disappointed in the blackface in this movie. I don't even understand how they came up with it and why. This was definitely a BAD decision by the team. I'm hearing people on Weibo think it's just funny and see nothing wrong. Which is weird because back in 2021, during the New year gala, they did blackface and people called them out on it. So clearly they don't care.
What I find annoying about people doing movies about cultures they're not a part of, they don't care to humanise those people. And more so, in this case, they have no regard for Black people. Because in Born to Fly, I noted how they were keen not to mention who the intruders were, they kept it blank to avoid aggravating the 'West'. They're even more cautious with how they depict Japanese people in War of Faith despite them invading and till to this day, not taking account for their war crimes. I wish they could extend the same grace to Africans and Black people.
Another thing about this movie, it's basically a White Saviour Complex, which is expected, because the movie was to glorify the braveness of this police unit, but I'm so over military/police going to foreign countries to 'provide aid'. The UN peacekeepers in Haiti or Congo proved how much damage those missions do, but that is glossed over.
What's most annoying about this on Twitter is how MTJJ seem to think this is an attack on Yibo, because the call out is coming from XFX, and not taking time to understand why blackface is racist, context or no context.

All in all, super disappointing.
