This really hit different. I loved the Zhang brothers and their chemistry was beyond words. I may rewatch this…
(It got long so I felt like putting under a spoiler tag)

They fr do. Them growing up tgt might make this even more beautiful. They know each other so well. And their love for each other is sooo beautiful it really makes you cry... It's been awhile I feel like since I felt such deep emotions for characters. The emotions I felt for them are no joke 😭 The other pair I felt that much attachment is prob the FoF MLs.

Yessss I really wanted to try JITD for a while, but even more now after watching this and seeing even more Zhang Xincheng's amazing acting! I alr knew he was so good... Now when I look at clips of JITD I am so shocked how ZXC does it. He really embodies the characters he plays to heart, truly.

And you need to watch The Spirealm! It's one of my fave dramas ever! The chemistry btw them is also very beautiful... 🫢 They will also make u cry! 😭🫣

Altho for Beyond Evil I'm not sure about the age gap for me... I'm not a big fan of large age gaps like that. But I will still try one day.

I miss this so bad and it's only been two days for me... I can't get over this one. It's gonna be really hard. I need amazing bromance + plot recs on a level similar to this atp (besides the other DMBJ series). But really, this is a rare kind. Idek if I can find one lol. I have seen Fangs of Fortune and The Untamed where both MLs are at the top of my favorite pairs as well. This Zhang duo easily became one of my top duos ever now. I love them sooo much.

I don’t want a season 2 without Haixia in it... Watching him gone like that broke my heart to thousand pieces...
If there happens to be season two (author has mentioned the possibility of one), I highly doubt they would let Ding Yuxi go. Not to mention his character became so popular. It wouldn't be the same without him. My theories that Haixia would come back:

1) Haiqi never gave the medicine to "Haixia" to save Haixia. And then that scene popped up again after Hailou saw his POV of killing Haiqi. Why add it in twice? A hint that he could be saved with that medicine shifu discovered.
2) Haixia stabbed Hailou on the right side (away from his heart) which meant he tried his best to not kill him (when Heixia was still in his body). I think Hailou stabbed Haixia on the right side as well. This could mean he could be saved.
3) Haiqi is now alive. I believe it was Zhang Qiling who saved her.

Conclusion: With the medicine that Haiqi hid, Hailou stabbing Haixia on the other side of his heart, and Zhang Qiling saving Haiqi in the end, there could possibly be a way for Haixia to come back.

I don't think thats an acting problem but a directing problem tbh with all that fear that they might get shipped…
Omg I can't believe they cut such an important scene... Thanks for sharing! It really helps with understanding more of his character. I really go do a deep dive on the original script atp. It sucks these pivotal scenes get deleted.

Regarding zxc's acting, I find it hard to comprehend his expression when he stabbed zhx. I know zhx did a lot…
I think he wanted to smile for Haixia before he dies... I mean, you could clearly see him crying but also trying to smile. He prob didn't want Haixia *dying* seeing him sad b4 his death (yk when ppl are about to die in dramas, there is the saying like, "Please don't be too sad / heartbroken for me. I want you to live on and be happy." And Haixia wouldn't want to see Hailou too heartbroken either. Idk, that's the feeling I got when watching it. Also, in the end, I don't think he really killed Haixia. Remember how Haixia stabbed Hailou in the right side. Same thing for Haixia. It's hinting that he still can be saved. He just wanted to get rid of Heixia or else he will continue doing bad things.Another hint is that Haiqi told Heixia (dark) that she didn't actually give him the medicine to cure him, and there's another flashback showing that same scene (where Hailou watches the moment of Haixia killing Haiqi) so I think there is a medicine to cure him.

You can compare the way he grieved over Haixia in his first death. He was super devastated the first time. It's clear how much Haixia meant to him already here.
(You can see a better and more fleshed out reply that I gave to @ Alien below)

I don't think thats an acting problem but a directing problem tbh with all that fear that they might get shipped…
So this is my interpretation.

Did you see how much he grieved over Haixia in his first death? Bc he believed he was dead dead. He couldn't process it himself. He was having it really hard. It showed how much Haixia meant to him.

This time, he didn't cry as much as he did for his shifu. I think it's bc "Haixia" killed her that caused even more grief of him towards her death. But then he eventually got to see how Haixia was struggling to stop himself from killing her but failed and grieved over her. In that memory of Haixia, Hailou saw his shifu tell Haixia that she never gave him the medicine to save Haixia. So maybe he believed there was a way to save him. He did stab him but on the same side Haixia did which saves them from being dead dead. I think the drama gave us that clue for a reason. Which means, there must be a way to save Haixia (shifu with the cure, Haixia being stabbed not on his heart).

And you can see how after Hailou stabbed him, he was both crying and smiling. Smiling prob meant he didn't want Haixia seeing him breaking down and such when he was able to leave. I think Haixia himself also wouldn't want to see Hailou too sad. Idk, that's my take. Their love for each other is so strong, so I feel they really understand each other well to show these things.

And while it can be easy to not see your favorite person the same way after seeing them do terrible things, Hailou understood Haixia's pain in the end. You could see that. The way they built it up through the eps. He was always patient, taking in the words Zhang Qishan gave him. But then, you know how things got way out of control even more, so there became even more conflict in their relationship. But once he fully understood what he was going thru, you could see the pain he was feeling for him. I think it was obvious that overall he truly had a really deep love for him. I think since he grew up with Haixia, he can't see that Haixia is the same as Heixia even if they're in the same body. He learns about what caused his personality change as well, which was never his fault. And I think Hailou understood him and all that pain he went thru. He wanted to be someone who will always be there for Haixia (not Heixia).

But I won't lie that the scene of him stabbing Haixia in the end felt too rushed. I wished they added more to build up the finale. They def should've. Wouldn't be surprised if they cut out parts. But I did try to understand the scene with what they gave and interpreted it this way as I watched. In the end, despite the build up to this final scene btw them not being the greatest (for it felt rushed), I think the way they portrayed their bond and relationship throughout the drama was what had me still crying a lot for them in their final moments tgt, bc to me it was obvious how strong their love was for each other, how they were each other's most important person, and how heartbreaking it was for both of them.

Wow... It started with 8.3 (it even went below 8.0 once) all the way thru the entire airing period, and it has gradually now reached to 8.6. I am soo happy and proud!! Truly deserves to keep rising and rising!!

It was so nice to see Zhang Qiling appear in the end. Like will we get to see him on adventures with Hailou and his shifu? I would looove to see this aahhh!! I was shocked to see Haiqi tho like woahhh how the heck is she alive now... I really thought she'd officially die, but man did they surprise to me bring her back. I did wish they made it more emotional tho like showing Hailou's actual reaction to her being alive or learning she'll be alive and such. I'm saddened to not see Haixia there tho. Why not him too? Well, we were told Haiqi hid the medicine to heal him so maybe there is a way to save him after all... I mean, it seems like an open ending, and I believe the director has talked about another season, so Imma just hope. Anyways, Wu Xie appearing in the end narrating was a delight. He's giving me the hope for more of their story lol.

Finally finished this and wow... I have no words... It's such a good drama... Like omg, you have no idea how many emotions stirred up in me just thru this alone. Literally be crying every ep! πŸ™ƒ The bond btw the MLs is so unique... Beautiful yet heartbreaking... One of the bonds that really made me feel sooo many different emotions. A bond I haven't seen around in such a long time. It's one that stands out. One you can never forget. The love they have for each other will really make you emotional.

But man did they rush trying to end the drama... By the last ep, I was like, "How are they gonna end this and wrap things well?" 😭 Also, don't tell me there's no season two when it's still leaving me with questions. Like I badly want season two to happen... 🀧😩

Person Ding Yu Xi Spoiler
First, he has no capital backing. Second, his agency is useless, e.g. Fight for Love was produced by his agency…
Lol thanks for the info! Dude should look at both plot and character if he doesn't. Like Nanyang Mystery was so good both ways. I also believe he liked the novel for Fight for Love and disliked the changes they made in the script lol I rmbr seeing a BTS of him being like "But in the novel..." but couldn't do anything about it sksksks poor guy. They really did well to flesh out his character in Nanyang Mystery tho bc after all, his character in the novel died early (never even had that dark personality change), so what they did in the drama is already sooo good that I can't complain.

Finished ep 29 and... THE AMOUNT OF EMOTIONS I HAD IN THAT ONE WAS INSANE!!!!! 😭😭 (Don't reply if you'll…
Noooo... I was so happy for Haixia and Hailou's reunion... but ofc it wouldn't end well by the end of the ep. I'm so heartbroken and frustrated!! I can't believe shifu sacrificed herself to give Haixia medicine but Heixia had to come to destroy it like whyyyyy... If I were shifu I would've been smarter to not trust him so that it all wouldn't go in vain. Instead do it secretly so he can actually be saved. Like tbh, looking at Haixia already, I always gets afraid that Heixia will come. So yeah... This is too much. Why do this to meeee 😭😭
