Updated as of Episode 7: https://mydramalist.com/discussions/alchemy-of-souls-part-2/83571-how-can-nakyeon-survive
Basically:
1. As I explained before, Part 1 is about Bu Yeon's plans. She only used Nak Su.
Master Lee confirmed it and made it worst, Part 2 is still part of Bu Yeon's plans. Bu Yeon is still using Nak Su for her own purposes.
2. Master Lee did not tell the truth to Jin Mama.
He did not remove Bu Yeon's soul. Or, rather, when he was about to remove Bu Yeon's soul, Bu Yeon probably talked to him and explained her plan.
Bu Yeon has weakened because of the events in Part 1. With Bu Yeon weak, she can not fully control the Divine Power in the body. The Divine Power will reject Nak Su's soul.
However, to survive, Bu Yeon needs to consume Nak Su's energy. To do that:
a. Nak Su's memories must be locked.
b. Once locked, Nak Su's energy can be freely redirected to fuel the Divine Energy. The Body is also being tricked that the energy is Bu Yeon's when it is not.
c. NakYeon (the new identity) must NOT use the Divine Power. Everytime she uses the Divine Power, the hold of the Divine Power over Nak Su's memories also weakens.
d. Bu Yeon needs to consume Nak Su's energy so she can re-emerge as the most powerful of the two souls
e. If Nak Su's memories continually leaks, Nak Su will awaken and re-assert herself (obviously), and Bu Yeon will remain weak without energy.
It is exactly the same situation as in Part 1. As I kept on saying, Bu Yeon and Nak Su are cancelling each other's powers.
In Part 2, Bu Yeon, probably with the help of Master Lee, locked Nak Su's memories so she can use her energy and consume her. Bu Yeon's plan in Part 2 is to emerge the strongest of the two souls.
In Part 1, Bu Yeon's plan was to retrieve the Ice Stone and she needed Nak Su so the Body can see.
As far Bu Yeon is concerned, Nak Su is only a tool, nothing else, both in Part 1 and Part 2.
Not taking anyone's side, but the character An Soo Young is relatable as far as “being second guessed”. I hate it too, having been in that situation for years and years.
And then the other party is acting “holier than thou”, putting the blame on you, the person they are second guessing. They are always right, you are wrong.
It hurts deeply when you're being second guessed. When the other party isn't sure about you. If the other party doesn't prioritise you.
We are not asking that you should choose between us and whatever it is that is keeping you busy. It's not that. Just show you prioritise us. Show us we truly matter.
You see, actions speak louder than words. If you are second guessing, it means one of two things: (1) we don't have any value to you; or (2) you are not ready for a relationship. Most of the time, it's both.
Relationship is about two people. It is not about you or him/her. As they say, it takes two to tango. If you are failing already at this stage, imagine what your life together would be if you decide to get married.
As far as second guessing is concerned, I'm ith An Soo Young here. Not that we have to pick sides, not at all, but An Soo Young's way of handling it, I totally agree with her. I've been there. The recipient of being second guessed. The receiver of another person who doesn't prioritise you. In the end, that relationship did not work. 15 years. It was a grave mistake on my part for thinking I'll be the better person. I wouldn't do it again. Like, An Soo Young, show it at the very beginning.
1. It gave us a glimpse into the character of the real grandson.Who is he? He is just a little kid upset with…
Yep, I think so too. He showed how he doesn't want them to be a broken family. He grew up without his real family, and they are lucky they have each other, yet can't see eye-to-eye.
It's ironic how a total stranger is the one mending them. He's more a family than a "fake" to be hated.
1. It gave us a glimpse into the character of the real grandson.Who is he? He is just a little kid upset with…
Exactly! He may be putting a strong, revenge facade, but he will melt once he sees his grandmother.
He is right to consider them as strangers, because they are. Even his father, when they first met, was acting strong and aloof, but eventually melted. No real family wouldn't show their soft spot for their own flesh and blood, especially if they're your ancestors/parents.
Yet, his cousins… totally strangers. A sad and touching story.
1. It gave us a glimpse into the character of the real grandson.
Who is he? He is just a little kid upset with his grandmother. But deep inside, he is hurting. That hurt deepened after he saw the life his grandmother have, while his father died, and his wife is battling for her life.
Forget about the life he had to endure, it is nothing compared to how he saw his father lived and died, and how his wife is fighting for her life. Then seeing the luxurious life his grandmother has.
He is just a little kid inside, who have been hiding his soft spot, his weaknesses, and acting strong, to survive the world. It is the only thing he knows. He always has his guard up. And his misunderstanding of his grandmother added on top of it, he is simply acting strong while trying to take revenge… but deep inside, he is hurting.
That's him. And fake grandson understood it so well. That brings us to #2.
2. The fake grandson is more than just an actor.
He is a soft person who understand other people first before he judges them. He sees the positive in every human being. He knows each person have a story to tell which shaped them who they are today.
Using his own experience, he knew he can connect with the real grandson. To connect with him heart-to-heart. The real grandson can keep his guard up, but he knew how to open the backdoor and get through him.
In contrast to that, the fake wife confronted the real grandson, but she made a wrong judgement call. She approached the real grandson head on, tried to make him feel guilty and herself the victim. Which only backfired because she did not bother to know what is his story.
The real grandson warned her to watch her words, yet she did not listen, instead she attacked stronger. He was holding himself back because he is not the type of person who wants to have a pis*ing contest.
But because she wouldn't listen, he revealed his story to her. The worst part of his story, seeing his father die, and his wife struggling to survive, which forced him to do things she tried to make him feel guilty of.
Fake grandson understood because he was abandoned by his mother. Fake wife did not, because she grew up in a well-off family and sheltered environment.
This contrast allowed the fake grandson's character to bloom. He was not doing it because it still is part of their act, he was reaching out to the real grandson because he understands where he is coming from.
Like the real grandson said so himself, everyone is telling him what they want him to do, or not do. No one bothered to ask him what he really wants.
And that is… for people to see him for who he is, a human being who was forced to do things he doesn't want, simply to survive.
It is why he kept saying they are strangers. Because strangers rarely see other people for who they really are. A real family will see a person. A real family will know if you are hurting. If you need a shoulder to cry on. They will ask if you need help.
The fake grandson turned out to be the real grandson's family. He saw him. He saw beyond the facade the real grandson was putting up (his guard), and became the person he needed.
Just look, it's episode 15, and still no one have any idea his wife is close to dying! No one cared to ask him! He's a human being crying out for help, but everyone's a stranger, they are only family in name.
The fake grandson and the real grandson. Episode 15 was that. A real familial bond between two unrelated people.
It was about Jin Do Joon being reborn as Yoon Hyun Woo and becoming rich!1. Yoon Hyun Woo did not die, he was…
Then maybe you can present a better explanation that doesn't contradict with what was explained in the series without using an excuse such as "lazy writing" or "writer error".
Also, please explain how come the history of events from HW's time period was exactly the same as in DJ's time period. There is a Miracle Investment. DJ died. DJ saw HW when he died. DJ's driver also saw HW and even mistook him as DJ in the senate hearing.
How come the DJ in HW's time period was known to have done all those things, if HW did not time travel nor possessed DJ's body. And well, he can not possibly reincarnate if he never died in the first place.
It was about Jin Do Joon being reborn as Yoon Hyun Woo and becoming rich!1. Yoon Hyun Woo did not die, he was…
Oh, another hint they dropped. When HW woke up, he wondered if it was a dream.
He was right to think about that because he spent 17 years as DJ but was only in coma in the hospital for 1 week.
aside: Some say he was not in a coma but was only asleep.
If he did not die, then where did those 17 years DJ's life come from?
The only possible solution to this question is one of two things: 1. he started to remember his past life, though only bits and pieces. His present self, confused, started to fill the gaps and acted on his own. In reality, he wasn't changing anything in the past.
Yes, as HW wondered, it was probably a dream.
Or,
2. he started to access someone else's life.
If we go by #2, that would mean the real DJ had access to future knowledge. How can that be?
The more likely answer that doesn't contradict with what was explained in the series, is #1. He did not relive his past life, he only remembered memories. But since his present self can not explain it, it allowed him to "play around" with it like it was a dream.
Later, HW explained he did not time travel nor possessed DJ.
One last thing.
If HW was indeed reborn as DJ, even though he did not die, and HW explained he did not time travel nor possessed a body, how come the past of HW is exactly the same as DJ's past?
It was about Jin Do Joon being reborn as Yoon Hyun Woo and becoming rich!1. Yoon Hyun Woo did not die, he was…
Yes.
The theory of reincarnation doesn't put any limit as to the time period one can be reborn. A person who was born in 2000 and died in 2022 can be reborn in the 1100, 3300, or in 2000 too.
In fact, there are Korean dramas which used that lack of restriction on reincarnation as part of their “endings”.
So, yes, a soul reincarnated in a time period overlapping their previous life is possible as far as the theory of reincarnation is concerned. They are not one soul in two bodies, they are two souls with one body each.
It is even possible for a person who died to be reincarnated as twins. One soul split in two. The K-drama 'Bulgasal' used that as a plot device.
The thing with reincarnation is, people are trying to fit their observations of people to fit their belief in reincarnation. If you don't believe in it, it is as good as fiction trope, and you can go wild with it. If so, then, DJ's reincarnation overlapping his previous self is possible.
OR,
When Master Lee tried to remove Bu Yeon's soul, Bu Yeon talked to him and coerced him to do her bidding.
As Master Lee said, things are again going according to Bu Yeon's plans. Part 1 was Bu Yeon all along. Part 2 is Bu Yeon all over again.
1. As I explained before, Part 1 is about Bu Yeon's plans. She only used Nak Su.
Master Lee confirmed it and made it worst, Part 2 is still part of Bu Yeon's plans. Bu Yeon is still using Nak Su for her own purposes.
