Casually stumbled upon this drama here while scrolling through Netflix. I've just finished watching the first…
I actually have a lot of gripes w/ official subtitles, but I can acknowledge that it's difficult to translate stuff well without putting a wall of text. The characters in historical dramas always use ζθ― / idioms that the english subtitles struggle to explain briefly. I would say it's less about speaking speed but more about translation inconsistencies. I wish there was some way around this too π₯
9.4, eyes were always peeled for the next episode, loved the cinematography and costuming too. only downside would be the intricacies of the ML-FL hierarchy. I would've preferred a bit more of explanation from the FL to the ML in her schemes, but her anger was also quite justified. it's hard to explain w/o spoiling, but overall it's the type of drama you want to see the end to!
FINALLY FINISHED OMG, totally loved it but i still have a few thoughts left (i might've missed some details) 1) to my knowledge, the third sister (yun e) played an incredibly minor role, she acted as a kiss-ass who would curry favor to whoever seemed to be "winning". i was curious if she would have any plots in the future or just lay low. 2) i kinda understand the complaints about the "unequal romance". i still loved the slowburn bc they didn't need to use a million cheesy theatrics to set the main leads together. however, it's hard to swallow that she didn't tell him about anything during the jiangyiqian situation. there are many instances where he's expected to read her mind/initiate everything, and her affection is only openly displayed when his life is near danger. i don't doubt her love for him, but a few more scenes that shows that she was actively openly up to him after the "left at the altar situation". her anger is justified, but it felt unclear as to when she was ready to help him again. 3) This is one of those rare dramas where I wouldn't mind 10 more episodes. Nothing felt dragged out, I simply felt like there were stories I wanted to learn more about. So much drama was packed into the last episodes that I wouldn't mind seeing a few more eps taking place in the duke arc. The second sister (yun xi) also deserved a bit more screen time during her "redemption arc" i feel. 4) as much as I know that the grandma's final scenes were meant to show that she accepts/acknowledges shanbao's place as new head of the house, it would've been interesting to see how she reacted to LJL coming back instead of one of the random men she chose for shanbao.
36 episodes and damn, it's over.. i need more !!! loved the inidividual plotlines of each sister, how nothing was ever too predictable, how i always felt compelled to click the next episode, off to the next cdrama π«‘
Why do I feel like the Grandmother, who should have the family's best interest at heart, actually seems to act…
I think the story was written as commentary against "strict order/tradition". The grandmother is made to be disliked because everyone seems to scheme in order to curry favor to her, yet a truly fair reign would not force those under it to always be at each other's throats. The grandmother's preach for family harmony and prosperity is ironically the opposite of what she's achieved. I'm pretty sure there's going to be a scene where she's confronted with how unproductive her rule is
Currently on Ep 10. Feels like itβs moving too slow and not feeling the chemistry as yet. Does it get better?…
You'll know when Lu Jianglai regains memory because you can see the look in his eyes become more "scheming". He'lll begin to work towards solving the Yang case. The chemistry peaks when Rong Shanbao lets down her guard/fully accepts Lu Jianglai as he helps her fight against the plot of her evil sisters. She's stone-faced 90% of the time in the beginning but def shows more emotions when she has a confidant.
is this another one of Yu Zheng's projects? im seeing a lot of his people in the cast list.
yes, there's a recent controversy surrounding YZ because zhou ke yu won't be attending the tencent event so fans are mad/begging YZ to let him go, but YZ said the filming schedule is too tight
On episode 3, the drama is sooooo sooooo sooo gooood. But the constant loud background score during normal conversations…
yea this is how i felt with moonlight mystique (same director), i appreciate his work but some of the songs feel repetitive when they're applied to the most random scenes
the princess is pissing me off, and i've tried to look at it open mindedly but i just can't.. she wants her wishes respected but fails to see the bigger picture (many obvious signs that the marriage won't be happy bc his eyes are ALWAYS on yixiao). she keeps dismissing that the two princes are enemies bc she hasn't truly experienced war (besides the one time she stupidly tried to join the army???). i think it takes just two eyes to see that her brother's concerns about marriage are valid, and even if not for him, she should be realistically considering how their relationship will turn out instead of going like "oh i love him itll be fine.."
i think i found out why i like this drama like how i enjoy TTEOM; it's so angsty when the lover's separate then teeter on the edge of reconciliation π a lot of people seem to hate it, but ill always love the pace of the process
In episode 14 (32min) Xie Wei says (referring to Yan Lin's upcoming coming-of-age ceremony) "I hope it won't…
sorry for the late response! the translation was a bit generalizing; it essentially means "i hope there will be no troubles this time" bc the yan family is continously being plotted against by the xue family, thus losing their stronghold in the empire.
im gonna start this after it finishes airing, so can someone tell me how the pacing is? ik it's enemies to lovers, but i'm curious if it's like they become allies halfway, or they only reconcile at the end type shi? and also anything that makes this drama like a must watch bc im saving this for halloweekend, tysm! π
this is an example chart, each time (two-hour duration) corresponds to a chinese zodiac, hence why there are 12 "hours"
